Got one from supermarket in Frankfurt. An okay doppel bock, with sweet maltiness balanced by okay hoppiness and is still quite refreshing, but it's not up there with the great ones. Name is not ended in -ator either.

From the bottle, it pours a clear reddish brown with a respectable head, slowly diminishing to a thin layer. Very bock like scent of roasted malt and some alcohol. The same in the mouth - pleasant roasted malt flavor with a nice kick. Yum!

Sparse gray head with large bubbles; clear reddish brown brew. Smelled of brown sugar and alcohol. Taste back- of-mouth bitterness and again, lots of alcohol. Didn't much care for it, although co-taster enjoyed it.

Yep, it's dark, dark brown with red and orange tints peaking through the light. It's also got a light brown head, but it falls flat almost instantly.
The aroma is lots and lots of roasted malts, yep, it's a Bock. I also get a alcohol smell coming up, and again at 8%, no wonder.
The flavor: brandy-like flavors, roasted malts, a little tang from the alcohol and a wee bit of bitterness. The middle is red wine-like, more roasted malts and more alcohol. The back finally is where all the sweet caramel Münchner malts pop out among roasted malt flavors. Again, it's got a brandy quality that's hard to miss in the aftertaste. What I like is that the roasted flavor really predominates but it's not overwhelming or super-sickly sweet like some Bocks or Dunkles I've reviewed here.
Again, overall it's a brandy-like mix, but this time it's a roasted malt-sickle. It's a good beer but I wish they'd been able to hide the alcohol better. Maybe this beer would be better in 6 months to a year. Mmmm, I think I have an idea… cellaring. A 4.5 rating.

Sweet with some flavors of dried fuits (prunes, raisins). Deep brown color (reddish against the light) with tiny brown head. Aroma is also sweet. Smell and taste give no hint to the high ABV. Smooth, mellow and easy to drink despite is strength....

Thick dark toffee coloured body with a fluffy tan head that fades fast, and light carbonation. Lots of dark wheaty aromas, with some sweet caramel notes and a bready nuttiness. An abundance of roasted malts in the flavour, grainy, and hints of toffee. It has a full body with a surprising amount of carbonation. Not a great doppelbock, not even in the same league as Ayinger Celebrator.

This is about the best presentation of any doppelbock I've ever seen. It produces a little over three fingers thick of rocky tan head, which peaks about a half an inch over the top of my stein--great lacing. The body is dark ruby red in color, and is light enough to allow light to easily shine through, in order to show off its clear body.
Aroma is earthy in nature, with hints of maple, vanilla, and a little bit of spiciness.
The taste starts off as maple, then to chocolate. It has a slightly herbal finish.
Mouth feel is smooth, then coarse in the middle, and a slight alcohol burn in the end.
Now that the temperature has dropped for the year and the air being crisp and dry... This is the way to enjoy a great doppelbock such as this.

Half-liter bottle dated 9 Jan 09. Poured into a pint glass - very clear, copper color with ruby highlights and a light tan, creamy head that lasted a couple of minutes.
Big malty nose, as expected for the style, with overtones of bread. Little to no hop aroma.
Taste mirrors the aroma - malt, malt, and more malt, though there was the slightest hint of hop presence in the aftertaste.
Finish was somewhat sweet, in line with the somewhat thick, chewy mouthfeel.
I enjoyed the beer and look forward to sampling more of Schmucker's offerings now that I am living in Germany. Will have again.

Poured a clear deep garnett with a 1/2 finger light brown head that some nice staying power, loved the aromas full of life notes of molasses and vanilla with underlying tobacco and alcohol zip some real nice complexities goin on.Big doughy mouthfeel obviosly malt driven but not overly sweet some vanilla and caramel with a firm pizza-dough feel to it finishing whiskyish with a lightly sweet alcohol burn.A beautiful doppelbock and it came in a Schmucher variety 12 pack for $8.00 frickin bucks cant top that.I know this isnt the best time of year for a big warming doppelbock but this hit the spot.
