More bitter than many standard pilsners.

16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEGDT.
This beer appears a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of loosely foamy, and generally bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some low-lying island-ho lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of sweet, kind of sugary biscuity pale malt, apple pie, a hint of gasohol, and leafy, weedy noble hops. The taste is gritty, grainy, and lightly crackery pale malt, a weird bit of extraneous indistinct sweetness, more sedate pump station emanations, a touch of apple-dominated orchard fruit, and more leafy, weedy old-school hops.
The bubbles are pretty sedate for the most part, and barely perceptible at times, the body a Plain Jane medium weight, and generally smooth, the hops here not really up for any sort of unnecessary altercation. It finishes still well off-dry, that extra sugar lingering and messing with my perception of what a German Pilsner should be.
Not the most crisp or interesting version of the style that I've yet come across. It's nice to see new German offerings make their way to Alberta - usually.

Catch up rating from notes, 2012: .5l bottle from Maruhn. Pours out a nice clear, light golden with an adequate foamy head. Aroma is biscuit malts, with a hint of the German hops. Taste brings some sweetness, not a lot, but noticeable. It finishes, as it should, with a small bite from the hops.

Golden color, with a lot of thin bubbles. Quite good and compact head.
Malty smell, but with a good grassy hop, quite resolute.
Same for the taste, good bitterness, grassy notes, slightly peppery.
Quite bitter aftertaste, and quite long, too.
Decent pils.

After venturing to the Schmucker brewery a couple of weeks ago, I grew a fondness for their line-up. Their pilsner is about one of the best you can get in das Deutschland, whether on tap or from the bottle.
The appearance is flawless with ample amounts of bright white head, and a respectable golden and clear body.
Aroma is mostly hop dominant, with a slight grainy huskiness to follow.
Taste is malty cracker up front, but gives way to the lemony hops.
Just like any good lager. This is perfectly well balanced, and has even recently won some pretty prestiges awards.

Poured from .5l bottle, with what I assume to be a "best by" date of 21Jan09, into a tall pilsner glass. Thick, white, two-finger head of tightly formed bubbles formed on top of a golden body. Clear, but not brilliantly so.
A somewhat spicy, floral hop nose with a bit of graininess. Hops take the lead in the taste - the spiciness comes through with a high degree of carbonation, which makes the mouthfeel "lively" on the tongue.
A decent beer - not Schmuckers best - but I'd buy it again since it is so readily available in the area.

Nothing really special here and a cut above average.
Nice medium golden hue, short head and limited carbonation.
Medium body and thin island lace to replace the crown.
Fairly well balanced to a hop end and linger.
Nose had a very slight essence of the skunk.

The beer pours a very pale gold color with a lacey white head. The aroma is clean and dominated by pale malts and lager yeast. The taste is average. It has a slight bitter taste and breadlike flavor. It has a bit of malty taste, but not much. The mouthfeel is decent. This is a low bodied beer with slightly less than average carbonation. This is an average lager at best. It drinks well, but there are many others that I would pick over this one.
