Kwikriek is an American Sour Ale brewed with Northern Michigan cherries and Lactobacillus. This beer is bright pink in color and smells of fresh cherry. The beer is tart with a strong cherry flavor and finishes quite dry. Light in body with an appealing fruit flavor, Kwikriek is a very approachable sour beer.

A: The color of strawberry lemon-aid with a small white head.
S: Slightly tart and acidic, with a slight cherry pie aroma.
T: Sweet fruity flavor up front followed by tart cherries, and perhaps lactic flavors.
M: Light bodied, moderate to high carbonation with an acidic and dry mouthfeel.
O: Overall a pretty tasty brew. I like the tartness with the cherry flavor. Probably my favorite thing that I have had from this brewery.

Pours hazy darker pink. Foamy, short, white head that fades fast with a lasting ring.
Smells sweet fruit, pepper, clove, yeast funk, light cherry and lightly sour.
Tastes sweet fruit, lightly sour, yeast funk and bready. Finish is Semi sweet with a cherry and yeast funk linger. Light body and fizzy medium carbonation.

I picked up a bottle of Short's Kwikriek in their Summer variety pack at Meijer. I',m in the mood for something sour today and I'm interested to see what Short's can do with this one, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a teku.
A- The label looks nice, it's got a slightly unique design for Short's and it's just a little eye catching. It poured a orange ride color that took on more of a red color when held to the light with a half a fingers worth of off white and very light pink head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some patchy lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but I wish the head and head retention were just a little better.
S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with a just a slight funky yeast aroma that goes right into some fruity aromas with the cherries being noticeable and impart a nice natural and tart cherry like aroma. Up next comes a little bit of dough yeast which leads into the malts which impart some pale malt, bready, grainy, light biscuit and sweet malt like aroma. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, all the aspects work well together.
T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with just a slight bit of that funky yeast being the first to show up and that goes right into the cherries which impart a nice juicy sour cherry flavor along with a lower amount of high sourness. Towards the end comes the malts which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma, but they are a good amount lighter this time. On the finish there's some lingering sourness with a little more sweetness and it had a sour cherry aftertastes. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, the tart cherry aspect is good, but I wish it was just a little more balanced.
M- A little smooth, mouth puckering, not too crisp, medium bodied with a lower amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice, but I wish it had a little carbonation.
Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was a nice example of the style, it had enough kriek aspects to live up to the name, but it's still has that typical Short's twist to it. This beer has ok drinkability, one is enough for me anymore than that and the sourness would start to get to me. What I like the most about this beer is the aroma and taste, they were both nice and all the aspects worked well together. What I like the least about this beer is the carbonation, I wish it had a little more. I would buy this beer on it's own, but I don't think it's something I would need to stock up on and I would recommend it if your looking for a solid sour cherry beer. All in all i liked this beer, it was a little better than I was thinking it was going to be. I'ts not a favorite Shorts beers and it''s a nice example of the style. Nice job guys, this is tasty sour cherry beer, keep it up.

This one is probably my favorite sour (wild) ale I've had from Short's, although I'm not a fan of sours to begin with, so take that for what it's worth. Pour is a brilliant pinkish red, with a little foam atop. Nice aromas and flavors of tart cherries with enough of a sweetness still to keep a balance. On the better side of the cherry ales I've had as well.

My Mom-in-law bought back a mixed 12pck from that state up north. In it was this sour. It poured a pink roseish color with no head and no lace. The scent had hints of sour cherry. The was slightly tart and sour with cherry being at the forefront. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent sour.
