Gary Juicy is a crazy, hazy, India Pale Ale brewed with Neo 1 hops from Michigan’s very own Mr. Wizards Hops, Simcoe powder, and orange juice. Hazy and gold in color, Gary Juicy pours with a dense white head. Aromas and flavors of orange and tropical fruit are complemented by a malty backbone. Gary Juicy has a delicate mouth feel and finishes with a very mild and pleasant bitterness.

Aroma is orange/citrus and earthy/slightly dirty malts. The flavor is orange/citrus, tea, malts and a mix of sweet/tart and spicy hops in the finish.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/8/2017. Pours moderately hazy/murky/cloudy golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, lime, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, citrus peel/rind, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, orange juice, and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, lime, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, citrus peel/rind, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very mild pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, lime, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, citrus peel/rind, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, orange juice, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.6%. Overall this is a nice hazy IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, orange juice, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter finish. This could have been executed better. It has a nice hop profile, but everything seems a bit muddled overall. Not very juicy, vibrant, or dank on hops/juice; but a bit of each. Balanced malts, never overly sweet. A nicely enjoyable offering.

12 oz. Bottle

Poured into a tulip a hazy golden yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, slight malt, with some citrus complex (orange, tangerine). The taste is hoppy, malty, with some citrus (orange, tangerine). Medium body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, with a little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a nice thirst quencher.

L: A hazy dull yellow color that pours with a small white head that dissipates quickly and leaves very little lacing on the glass. Lots of sediment that almost looks like pulp floating throughout.

S: Ripe citrus and some lemon rind, not a lot of variety in the aroma.

T: Sweet fruit and ripe citrus with some lemon and grapefruit rind. The beer is way too sweet and rather one note.

F: Creamy mouthfeel medium body

O: This is very one dimensional compared to a lot of other iPAs.

This one puzzles me. It's definitely Short's weakest entry into the turbid/hazy/juicy IPA category, with Slurm and Hazy ControversiALE being good and Slurm Lord and Step Into the Haze being excellent.
The nuts and bolts are this, plain and simple: Gary Juicy reminds me of the store brand orange juice my grandmother would buy when I was a kid. That orange juice wasn't the sweet, rich stuff you find on the shelves now, it was slightly bitter and kinda on the watery side. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something you really had to have.
Gary Juicy is okay. I don't think it could stand on its own outside of the variety pack, but might work as a tap release.

I picked up a bottle of Short's Gary Juicy in there newest Variety pack at The Lager Mill. I'm in the mood for something hoppy and fruity today and I'm interested to see how this one will turn out, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into an IPA glass.

A- The label is good, it goes well with the name and it's eye catching. It poured a pretty hazy and cloudy golden orange color that doesn't change when held to the light and it has a finger and half worth of creamy and slightly bubbly white head that died down to thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some nice patchy and spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a a higher amount of medium sweetness with the fruits being the first to show up and they really impart those citrus and orange juice aroma that go right into the hops with a little bit of tropical fruit like aroma, but it's the floral hops that seem to stick out the most with just a little bit of green hops showing up in the background. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast that leads into the malts which impart a pale malt, grainy, bready and sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a good aroma, it's pretty juicy with a good amount of hops.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the taste but lighter and it seems muted, it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the oranges still being the first to show up, but they are lighter this time and not as juicy. Up next comes the hops which are lighter than they were in the aroma, but they still impart all the same aspects. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast which leads into the malts which are a good amount lighter than they were in the aroma, they impart the same aspects, but they don't show up nearly as much. On the finish it's a little bland and slightly watery with a lower amount of bitterness with a hoppy and citrus like aftertaste. This is decent tasting beer, but the taste didn't really live up to the aroma and I wasn't a big fan of the finish.

M= Smooth, slightly refreshing, a little crisp, medium bodied with a lighter amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a decent beer and I thought it was was pretty average for an IPA, it didn't really deliver too much after that aroma and I found myself wanting more out of the taste. This beer had ok drinkability, one is enough for me, it doesn't interest me enough to drink more than that. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, they were both good and the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is the taste, it just didn't have much too it and I wanted more from it so it would live up to it's name and description. I wouldn't buy this beer on it's own and I Can't say I would recommend it. All in all I wasn't a big fan of this beer , I like the concept, but I think it could use some more work. It's one of my least favorite Shorts beers that I've had lately and it's pretty clove to being average for the sty;e. Better luck next time guys, this one could use some work.

All of mine had a lot of floaty particulate that is off putting. Didn't distract from the taste too much, but nowhere near the elite of the hazy IPA game. Still appreciate the effort from Shorts
