On tap @ Hops on 84th. Overly bitter and left a harsh, metallicly bitter taste in the back of the throat. Perhaps a bad barrel?

12oz. bottle purchased and enjoyed at Short's on 11/29/08.
A - Poured a deep amber/orange color with a tinge of haze and thin off-white head that disappeared and left little to no lacing on the glass.
S - Dry, resinous hops with some perfumy and floral notes. Some bourbon also enters the mix, but its presence is not as potent as I had expected, although there are some mild alcohol notes present. Malt is sweet with hints of caramel and toffee.
T - Fruity, syrupy sweetness up front followed by a warming bourbon presence that mingles with the heat of the aggressive hops. Lots of perfumy and floral notes mixed with - to a lesser degree - a splash of citrus and some resin. There is some sweet caramel malt and toffee character present to keep everything in order. Quite complex and still hoppy after two years in the bottle.
M - Medium body with a syrupy texture. Warm and sticky mouthfeel with tons of hop bitterness that lingers on the palate.
D - The hops retained quite well for a two-year-old bottle. The bourbon presence was subtle but pleasant and added to the complexity of this fine anniversary ale.

A-Hazy dark copper with just the slightest hint of an off-white veil of head.
S-A surprising amount of grapefruit and pine hop kick. For a DIPA with over two years of age on it this one has held up well.
T-Bourbon like sweetness collides with lots of spicy citrus hop flavour.
M-Medium body with long lasting bitterness. Finishes rather sticky.
D-A 12 oz. bottle would certainly be enough to enjoy, strong stuff. I was most impressed with how well the hops held up.

I sampled this at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Fest. Served through a Randal Dry-hop system.
A: Copper-amber, fairly opaque, no head.
S: Grapefruit. A little pine & sulfer.
T: Plenty of hop flavour (piney & grapefruit citrus), modest bitterness (fairly balanced), a little toffee, bread & caramel.
M: Moderate to full body, light to moderate carbonation.
D: Could be trouble.
