Poured from a growler, using the new Hopsy growler service.
A: Dark straw color with some reddish overtones. Looks like a BA fruited tripel...if that's a thing haha
S: Lots of plums in the nose followed by a bit of spice from the base beer, smells inviting
T: This is where it loses me. Initial punch of vanilla from the barrel, followed by a drying and slightly bitter oak taste. Alcohol is fairly well hidden until you get to the finish, when I get a sort of grain alcohol and plum aftertaste
F: Feel is pretty on point for the style. Relatively light for such high abv
O: I wanted to like this beer. The description was mouth watering and the aroma hinted that this could be a great beer. Unfortunately, the taste (personally) failed on nearly all fronts. It is way too unbalanced, and adds nothing to the base beer. As it warms it is a bit less astringent, and the plums show a bit more. But not worth seeking out
