fairly certain this is all barrel aged, which is awesome. lots of vanilla and oak to it, sweet as can be, but pretty customary in a barleywine like this. notes of toffee and caramel and maple syrup, its somewhat lighter in color than we usually see in the style, less nutty toasted malts, more sweet lighter ones, must have been one heck of a substantial mash! strong alcohol in here too, stinging the nostrils through the sugars, molasses and raisin are brought to the fore. lots of caramel here, butterscotch, new sweet wood, serving less to mellow here as it is to flavor, and a ton of body, sticky and palate coating without hardly any hops to speak of on the back end. a little shy on carbonation too, but in the style thats perfectly acceptable. this was overall an awesome beer, and i style i am circling back around to as a real favorite, especially in the fall, but probably a little stronger and sweeter than it needs to be, getting pretty intense at room temperature. my first beer from these guys is a winner though, and i love the name!

Fresh at the source. This was listed at 12.5%ABV. Caramel truffle dessert candy. Worther's Original deliciousness. Definitely a end of the night or last sipper beer of the evening type beer. Very sweet and sticky. No hops to be found at all. Not the prettiest beer or cleanest of mouthfeel, but damn this is one delicious big luscious Barleywine or beer for that matter.

Highly recommended.

On tap at The Beer Junction, Seattle.

For a barrel aged barleywine, this is pretty mild. I don't get any of the brandy barrel in the aroma, but there is a little of the brandy in the taste. It's sweetish.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this beer. I'm OK with subtlety; not every beer needs to hit you over the head with strong flavors. But this beer just falls short for me.

A: Poured a light caramel-brownish color, transparent with a whispy white cap which fades away in moments

S : A whiff tells me there is plenty of booze in here, along with some caramel, what seems to be some faded piney hops, backseat raisins and toffee

T : Initial booze sting is ushered in by some caramel, toffee and a little sweetness. A decent amoutn of dark fruits weigh in on the main flavor profile. The finish is a bit hot, sweet

M: A little thin on the body for me. Sticky sweet finish with caramel and fruits and waves of light toffee.

O: Your traditional barleywine notes are hit on this one but nothing to rave about by any means. I would drink again but probably would not seek it out. Bump up the body and we can talk about another purchase...

On tap at Roasthouse Pub in Frederick MD.

A - Light Brown with red hue. A good bit of alcohol lacing. Solid looking BW.

S - Dark fruit smell with malts. Cherry like smell or fig smell prevailing. I want to taste at this point.

T - Dark fruits and fig. Wow I can't get enough of this. Solid fruity foreground with a slightly malty background. VERY GOOD barleywine.

M - Smooth and crisp, but the alcohol makes it a sipper. Not much carb but it is expected for a BW. Solid mouthfeel.

Worth a shot. Good BW.

On tap at the tap house in Concord, CA. No clue this even existed until visiting.

Pours a nice pretty clear amber color with a decent size cream colored head. Typical BW appearance. The aroma has a lot of dark booze soaked fruits and some sweet candy-like whiffs. Sweet caramel also. The taste is sweet up front with a mild bitterness kick on the swallow. The aftertaste lingers for a long while. More pronounced dark fruits come out as it warms. Boozed up red grapes is the major contributor. A little thin in the mouth.

Overall this is a sweeter BW compared to some of the competition. No off-putting tastes, just an enjoyable experience with a pretty easy drinking BW. No idea if this will ever be bottled, but nice job here.
