Called this beer a Belgian Pale Ale for lack of a better description available. A bottle-conditioned ale, using rice and barley malts, with the use of sake yeast, that is 8%ABV.
Looks are highly turbid, with a soft, creamy yellow/orange hue. Bubbly cream head that falls in moments to a slight haze and thick-looking suspended bubbles.
Sour nose, slightly fruity and a little funky. Grapefruit, corn notes. Thick and chalky.
Alot in the taste, but unbalanced I thought. First impression is alcohol and grain and creamy rice ("Best of Asahikawa" rice). Past the rough edges there is a sweetness, like a white wine (sauvignon blanc?), sour w spots of cantaloupe. Wild finish that is both rough and bitter and blends into sweetness, which reminded me a little of drinking sake -- but that was it as far as likening this beer to sake for me...although the aroma could be as well..
Supersharp carbonation.
