Had on tap at the brewery.
On arrival just over a finger of white to off white head was present that slowly recedes to an average cap that clings to the glass. Body is a clear medium dark reddish brown. Very slight lacing forms.
Aroma is sweet and toasty with some light chocolate and some nice caramel toffee coming from the malts. Despite this, for the style, the aroma is a bit light. English yeast character is very present.
Taste brings some bitter and earthy hops that mix with the toasty sweet malts to bring in an almonds nuttiness. There is some nice caramel malt sweetness, but some floral hops balance things out nicely to make it truly a nut brown ale. Pretty good, and very true to style, if not a bit sharp in flavor.
Feel is very full but dry. Finish is long and is where the dryness really shows up. Despite that the malty thick character is also present. Dry again like an almond.
Overall, this is better than I remember, but it isn't mind blowing. I want a bit more true malt character, instead of leaning into dry bitter almond character, which I admit is nutty, but I want some malt sweetness.

I'm not generally a fan of Brown Ales, as I find most of them pretty boring (DFH Indian Brown being a notable exception).
Carver's Colorado Trail Nut Brown Ale is another exception. This is a much better beer than most brown ales, with a depth of flavor that makes me sit up, take notice, and want another. I first had this beer a year ago, at a time when I wasn't reviewing any beers, and I remember being impressed. Revisiting it again a couple of days ago, I found that it's just as good as I thought then.

This was my first beer off the trail....totally appropriate.
It was a pretty brown color and had a nutty flavor. Compared to the iodine treated water I had had for the last month it was amazing.
It was not the best brown ale of all time, the head did not last long and the taste was pretty average. That said it was totally drinkable. Its a great "with food" beer.
