22 oz brown bottle - dated 2014
Harpoon Maple Tap Imperial Porter filled my tulip glass with a dark brown [almost black] hue with a slight red cast on the edges. A 1/2-finger khaki head with fine bubbles was formed. The head dissipated rather quickly to a bubbly collar. The nose first noticed roasted malts followed by a sweet nutty aroma and dark sugar. The taste is very similar to the nose beginning with nutty and roasted malts, followed by dark candy sugar and just a hint of maple. Alcohol and a light hop bitterness was noted at the finish. Mouth feel was medium bodied with a somewhat fizzy carbonation.
Overall, Maple Tap is not a bad American Porter. However, I was hoping for a bit bolder flavor since it is labeled Imperial, still enjoyable though.

Big let down. Zero maple flavor, thin and bland.

a. Deep brown color with 1 finger head when poured into a pint glass. not much lacing.
s. Maple is clearly present in the aroma . Some malt and sweet flavors.
t. Maple is on the front. Dry on the finish.
m. Dry finish kills this one for me.
o. Good beer, but would not go out of my way for it.

This beer didn't have as much maple flavor as expected, but is still a terrific imperial porter. For 9.1% ABV the alcohol isn't prominent, and the beer is smooth. As a New Hampshire native, this porter is almost identical to the flagship porter of Henniker Brewing Company.
