Served in a snifter glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Slight hazy amber with a white head rising half a fingers length.

Smell: Light hops, comes and goes in the nostrils.

Taste: Sweet and touch sour. Lightly mellow oak, bitter.

Mouth: medium body but still sticky.

Overall: Descent beer which tastes and doesn't taste like a hefeweizen.

Review from notes.

Pours a slightly hazed amber/brown color with a minimal tan head, maybe a quarter inch, the quickly goes away. No cling. Stream of bubbles visible rising thru the liquid.

The smell is of dark fruit and wheat, just not very much of either.

The taste is not very intense either, but it is enjoyable. It reminds me of a slightly boozy bread pudding with lots of raisins. All the elements are accounted for, just not very strong. Tiny hint of banana.

Medium bodied, it has a little odd sting to it that isn't bad, just unexpected. Not highly carbonated, near flat by the end of the glass.

Ok...like the flavor and enjoy drinking the beer. It has all the pieces parts of the style, but it seems like a weizenbock lite to me. Decent, the missus likes it, nothing to seek out and now retired anyway.

Poured into a weizen glass.
The appearance was a nice looking dark amber to brown color with a sly transparency about it. Some carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace with a small cap of a little white foamy head dieing off at a moderate pace. No lace.
The aroma had some milk chocolate delving into some banana, clove, yeasty white bread and a touch of crisp wafer.
The flavor was leaned into the sweetness of the mix and then a gentle spice from the clove slid in underneath and pulled a slight sweet to spicy wheaty bready aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping to sessionable sort of feel to it. Carbonation and ABV felt on par. Good stroll of smooth to semi-crisp wheaty sweet stickiness along my tongue. Slightly sticky in the finish.
Overall, a nicely done weizenbock I'd come back to.

Thanks Costco for carrying 22 oz bottle. Bay State born and raised, been imbibing Harpoon since it came on the scene all those years ago; nice to be able to get a taste of home in the South! Overall an enjoyable offering from Harpoon.

On tap:
Looks like a slightly hazed brown ale, but my pour is lacking a significant head that I’d expect from a weizen beer. By 1/4 of beer, there’s barely a thin ring and no lacing.

Nose is light, but not too out of line. There’s a nod towards the wheat notes and a hint of dark fruit. The aspects are there but strength is a bit light.

The beer is has a bite that sticks out from a fairly soft, smooth though medium thin feel. The flavors mimic the nose, with a slightly spirit-soaked raisin bread overall impression.

A beer that has its points and demerits, none of which are strong on either side. Enjoyable, slightly neutral version of a style, IMO.

22oz bottle. Label says 18 IBU, 8% ABV. First pour looks really nice. Slightly hazy copper honey with a bit of a head and lacing. Pretty strong carbonation bubbles are coming up. It seems a little odd that subsequent pours (after recapping the bottle and putting back in the fridge) have no carbonation or head. I don't remember seeing a beer go flat so fast before. Smell is nice, malty with some banana. Tastes of the malts with banana, some other spicy esters. Feel is pretty good, carbonation gone after first pour, a little boozy at 8%. Overall, a fine weizenbock.

From the bottle, it pours an ever-so-slightly hazy coppery color with a modest head, soon diminishing to nothing. Lightly scented with banana. The taste has definite banana, alcohol and malt.

Mild haze to the otherwise darker copper color. Served in a tulip glass, it starts with a very good head but it leaves little lace, infrequent spots closer to the the liquid line.

Light banana and yeast. I also get some alcohol to the nose.

The banana is a muted taste, but still present. Instead, I get a little yeast and a lot of wheat on the tongue. Very high carbonation with a modest body makes this a relatively thin beer. The finish is more of the same but the aftertaste brings out a very mild sourness.
