Traditionally brewed and easily enjoyed, this modern classic is a malty tribute to the rich tradition of craft brewing. And, if we're being honest—and we are—this is a style we just really love. We hope you agree.

From the 12 fl. oz. can stamped 01/28/19-00:03. Sampled on June 2, 2019.
The pour looks like it should with a dark brown to near black appearance and a short-lasting tan head.
Definite sweet malt sensation in the aroma and maybe some vanilla. A bit of char. A low to no hop profile.
The mouthfeel is around medium and smooth.
Most definitely a smooth beer with some coffee elements playing up more in the taste that the aroma suggests. Smooth, dark and malty. It works.

This one pours a fairly dark brown, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This one smells like roasted malt, light hops, and smoke.
This is pretty well put together. It’s obviously pretty thin, but it’s so drinkable, with some dusty chocolate and heavy roast, and just the lightest hop kiss. This is built for repeat pints, not dissecting.
This is light but creamy, with a nice level of drinkability.
Harpoon is fairly underrated I feel - they make some great takes on old school styles.

Fine, but small, head. Deep, dark brown color (nearly black). No light passes. Nice combination of blankets and streaks for lace.
The smell is rich with a smoky, darker malt nose. A borderline stout perhaps with a Rauch Bier blended in?
The body is thin and the carbonation high. The flavor is bitter from burnt barley malt. Lots of darkly toasted bread. As far as the style, this is a crisp, refreshing example.
