I found this beer on tap at BoBBiQue in Patchogue NY. It went by the name "Oak Aged Ale" and certainly wasn't the IPA. The beer poured a deep amber color with a foamy white head that didn't stick around too long. The aroma was of malted scotch, molasses, and some spice.

This is a very intense and complex beer. There is a definitive malt scotch flavor, followed by the sweet, sticky molasses and a slight smokiness. As the beer warmed it became sweeter and thicker on the palate. Even though the alcohol was masked well, it was still felt throughout the drink. Certainly a cold weather brew, for sure.

The mouthfeel was thick and smooth, and the finish was very clean. I wish I knew the ABV of this beer, but it had to be above 10, because I felt it almost immediately. I envision this one as a sipper in a brandy snifter, because it is complex and powerful. Harpoon as a brewery has its ups and downs, but this is a sure-fire up. If you can track it down, give it a try; it's well worth it.
