Moderate beige-colored head. Good lacing of rings and streaks. Near black color -- no light passes.
Dark patent malt nose. Light chalk.
No sweetness but as dry as this stout is, it isn't as bitter or burnt as it could be. Leans thin like the Irish versions. Very high carbonation, which throws the mouthfeel off. Burnt toast aftertaste.

Pours black in color with a finger thick brown head.
Aroma citrusy with some roasty chocolate coming through.
Taste is almost like an IPA, body is rather medium than full.
It might be a stout by the way it is brewed but aroma, taste and feel is very different from a usual stout.
If the aim was to be different, well, they nailed it!
...but that does not mean I like it.

Why not just call it a black ipa?

Strangely light and fruity for a stout. Not particularly roasty even as it warms. Pours a nice dark black with a light brown, darker than tan, head that has his retention. Smells roasty and slightly fruity.

Billed as tropical stout. So a hoppy one. I'm hoppy.
a) Perfect creamy crema lace riot lasting head over black body.
s) Too faint but whiffs of grassy hop, pineapply, dry wood smoke, campfire.
t) FOllows aroma but much more great combination and balance, think wood-grilled pineapple with malt.
f) Tho sweet, still a chalky dry stout taste.
o) Excellent, someone should blind test all the BIB beers.
