Every year the province of Nova Scotia presents the city of Boston with its official Christmas tree – a “thank you” to the people of Boston for its quick aid after the devastating Halifax explosion on December 6, 1917. To honor this tradition and deep bond between these two regions, we brewed this abbey-style ale with the help of Nova Scotia’s Big Spruce Brewing. With Oak and Cherrywood smoked malts, a touch of spruce tips, and an extended conditioning in Glen Breton Single Malt Whiskey barrels from Cape Breton Island, it’s both layered and complex with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, wood smoke, and caramel.

Poured from a 16 oz can sadly without any date. I do understand this to be a recent release though.
A - Light mahagony colred backdrop, conceals a steady stream of tiny spheres meandering towards the surface. A thin off white cap quickly receeds. solid ring clings to the glass during the reaming experience.
S - Light brown sugar, earthy woodsy thread, vanilla, raisin, wisps of sweet wood smoke, apple, cheery.
T - A bit more complex than the nose, with dark fruit, leading the way. Sweet malts, with thier smoked brethren in there as well. Touch of pine resin, caramel and vanilla again. Its busy and quite pleasant.
M - Medium in body, stays right in a semi sweet lane, with a fine dry finish.
O - A really good and quite nuanced offering, The base Abbey style is present and solid, the adjuncts and barrel treatment add delicate elements that all work here. Not weighted in any one aspect the sume of the parts are quite tasty.

Clear, amber brown color sporting a tall white head of sticky foam. Pocked lace drapes all around the goblet.
Aroma is deep and rich with malt sweetness, caramelized sugars blend with smoked fruit and alcohol to tantalize the nose and invite the mouth in.
Flavors of toffee and figs, smoked cherries and charred oak blend with dry roasted grain notes and mild peppery hop bitterness. Complex and fruity, sweet but balanced with a firm hop bite on the back end.
The body is full but not heavy and very satisfying offering unique flavor combinations with each swallow.
Finish is long and warm with alcohol and a dry, lingering hop aftertaste.
With Love from Nova Scotia indeed. Quite possibly the best beer I've ever had from Harpoon.

16oz tallboy can, sample from the brewery.

Pours a slightly cloudy tawny chestnut hue, decent amount of off-white lacing on top. Smells of smoked malt, dark fruit, caramel, faint spruce sap, & sweet rolls. Smooth and creamy with a fullish body. A good amount of smoke upfront with a big kiss of alcohol soon after. Slightly fruity with some evergreen undertones in the middle. Maltiness holds strong with all of the other elements showing balance. While you might think this beer is all over the place, a few sips it your taste buds adjust and realize it simply works.
