A: Described as a Rye Wine on the brewery's chalk board, this beer was a very dark amber bordering on dark brown with a thin tan head served in a Leviathan tulip.
S: Some spicy and earthy notes backed up by slight malty and hoppy notes, but nothing special going on here.
T: Earthy, malty sweetness kept in check by what taste like noble hops. The beer has no noticeable alcohol character, quite an achievement at 10% ABV. As it warms the beer develops a much more pronounced spicy rye character.
M: More substantial than an average Pale Ale but not quite syrupy like a DIPA or RIS, the beer is velvety smooth with just the right amount of carbonation.
D: Dangerously drinkable at 10% ABV. This is a unique beer, an Americanized version of a big Roggenbier, this beer doesn't have much in the way of yeast character. A very interesting beer brewed in honor of the 10th anniversary of Harpoon's Windsor brewery, I'll definitely be back for more in the next week or two.
