Brown color but light passes easily through the center of the glass. Clear. Long lasting head but it leaves only slippery streaks after each sip.
Deep roasted malt. Closer to coffee than chocolate.
The flavor is complex— I get unsweetened caramel, brown bread, and faintly, burnt malt. Richer body, particularly for a Brown Ale. The lower carbonation helps. The finish retains a delicate sweetness. Some alcohol warmth with a light semisweet chocolate nib in the swallow.
