Pours a cloudy golden orange with a small head that melts to almost nothing immediately.
Belgium style yeast hits the nose with a mild sweetness and warming smooth earthiness.
Taste of slightly sour sweet fruits, cloves, cinammon, orange peel, with a sour drying finish.
Mouthfeel lacks some of the carbonation I'm used to yet still seems creamy and full.
Aftertaste is bitter citrus peel.
A great saison at $2.99 a bomber...not a great saison in any other class, however.

22oz Bomber $4.49

A-Decent hazy golden body with light and tightly packed head that thins out pretty quick.

S-Wow...major case of DMS! I cannot get past a rancid cooked corn and vegetal aroma. If this is not infected, this is one of the worst smelling beers that I have come across in a while. The spice of the yeast tries to get throug, but it makes things worse.

T&M-A sour, metallic taste numbs the tongue. I really have a hard time putting a sip of this down. Total unbalance with flavors that do not mesh whatsoever. The body is thin and the finish is a tad dry, but this a horrible representation of a truly great style.

D-I will not have this again anytime soon if I can avoid it. This one sticks out as one of the worst tasting and smelling beers I have tried in a long time.

From 22 oz bottle I could find no mention of Coast Range on the bottle. Poured a cloudy golden color, with nice white head and moderate lacing. Nose was yeasty and full of fruits and spices. Mouthfeel moderate, and flavor is of fruits. A somewhat dry finish. Very decent brew and easy to drink.

22oz bomber bottle. Pours into my glass a somewhat hazy yellow orange with a thin half inch of fizzy foam. Aromas start with a bit of pale grain enhanced by some spicy citrus and pepper tones. Earthy yeast is in there as well with a touch of lemon zest and a light sourness.

First sip brings a smooth, spicy pale grain malt upfront. It flows down with some citrus fruit qualities and a touch of black pepper. Lemon zest and some herbal bitterness follow on the way down, along with a bit of a sour twist. Finishes nice and spicy with a yeasty bite.

Mouthfeel has a nice creaminess to it with plenty of carbonation that rolls across the palate nicely. An easy drinking brew that still has a nice body to it. I could easily drink this one quite a bit, especially in the summer. I found it to be a pretty tasty American brewed saison style ale and I'd probably pick it up again.

Appearance: Pours an almost clear, pale yellow body with a fizzy white head.

Smell: The aroma holds both fruit and spices, along with a good measure of yeastiness.

Taste: Gentle maltiness, with a very light sweetness. Fruity orange peel flavor throughout. A dusty, dry yeastiness. Hints of a pepper. Finishes spicy, with just a very mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Though a touch different from other saisons I've had in the past, it's still nicely refreshing and easy-drinking. Like a saison-lite!

Pours with a fairly hazy, gold color that is topped by a frothy, two-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The aroma is a mix of earthy, spicy herbal notes that evoke thoughts of coriander, clove, fresh cut hay, and lemon grass. Some soft fruit notes of apples and pears are also noticeable. Malt aromatics are present, especially towards the end; soda cracker notes, lightly cooked biscuits and grassy grain notes round out the malt aromas.

Quite light tasting, yet it has a fair amount of sweetness to it. The sweetness seem accentuated by some orange peel flavors that are actually quite pronounced, especially towards the middle and finish of this beer. I would guess that some coriander has been added to this beer as these flavors are fairly noticeable as well. Notes of ginger, and perhaps a touch of dusty white pepper are noticeable as well. The orange peel and coriander notes seem to get in the way of the yeast character that might be here.

An interesting beer, with a good mix of flavors, but it seems to be a bit out of whack. Some of the flavors are a bit too strong (orange peel and coriander), while others are quit a bit too weak (yeast / fermentation character). Not bad, but seems to have missed the style (despite the style being wide opening).

22 oz. bottle. Pours up a hazed goldenrod color with a fluffy bone white head that fades away pretty quickly. No lacing left behind, minimal stickage. Nose is ripe with wheat malts, a touch of honey, faint aromas of hops and that musty, dusty scent you come to almost expect from a saison. The aroma is good, but it doesn't really come across as being as complex. This saison has a real bite near the finish. It's not entirely hops, it's not citrusy or spicy, almost more like an astringency from the grain husk (perhaps oversparged?). Anyhow, it's not bad, just a little unusual. There's some malty sweetness and unmalted wheat flavors in the front, hints of coriander and blood orange, yeasty in the middle, and that light astringency in the finish that leaves a trace metallic aftertaste. Alcohol is noticable, but not overwhelming. Slightly phenolic. Medium bodied, but slight undercarbonation makes it feel a little thicker. Overall, it's not the best saison I've ever had, I'd try it agian if I found it on-tap somewhere.

Pours a yellow gold with a less than normal sized head with no longevity. Nose is completely funky and barnyard which I really like. Continuation of those earthy, spicy saison flavos/scents that just make you love the style. However, this one has some slight bittering in the background which is more present in the finish. This took away a bit from the overall profile. All in all I enjoyed this one and would definately have it again. Thanks to Solomon420 for the bottle.

A: Pale straw color with a 1/2 finger fizzy white head that quickly dies...so far, not too promising.

S: Smells of apple juice. Fermented apple juice. And not much else.

T: Taste is just slightly better, but only slightly. Fermented apple juice, some earthy grassiness. Finishes with a touch of yeastiness. I'm sorry, but this is not a saison. Very weak.

M: Decent carbonation, with an ok mouthfeel.

D: This is light enough to be drinkable, except that it doesn't taste very good.

Not recommended. This is the worst attempt at a saison I have ever had. There are far better saisons, don't waste your money on this.

This is another good, affordable, "sessionable" US made saison...

Poured this into a snifter, getting a slightly unfiltered, light golden hue. The white foamy head hung around for a surprisingly long amount of time. The nose had subtle hints of yeast, and fresh bread. The flavor was a refreshing, low hopped ale with definite nuances of yeast, and a brief clove appearance towards the end. Every now and then you get a trace metallic flavor towards the finish as well. The creamy mouth feel helped this beer achieve a nice light smoothness, a definite session beer. A very food friendly beer as well, but a pairing of oven roasted chicken with aromatic vegetables, mashed potatoes, and buttermilk biscuits would prove to be an incredible marriage...Enjoy

Served in a tulip glass. Ruddy golden colored, just the slightest bit hazed, with spotty bubbles randomly rising from bottom to top. A half inch of white tight foam sits atop, and slowly recedes down to nearly nothing.

Aroma of heavy yeast, some clove and spice, just a bit of vanilla and lemon.

Initial flavor of yeast funk, followed by some peppery spice and clove, and a touch of honey, finishing with an acrid tang in the back of the throat. The yeastiness lingers.

Mouthfeel is dry and crisp, some carbonation tingle in the finish.

Poured from a bomber with a picture of a barn on the front. Saisons seem to vary a lot so it's tough to rate...

Appearance is slightly cloudy and pale yellow, with nice thick head. The smell is a little citrucy and spicy, but only a little. The flavor was kind of light for my tastes, not as grassy as I like (Hennepin, DuPont Saison).

Mouthfeel and drinkability are about average, not really a great beer.

Poured a slightly hazy light gold color with a slightly sticky white head.
The aroma was a bit strange to me as it had a citrussy scent that had to be from spices but i can't tell which one(s). There is a slight fruityness and a dry malt to the aroma as well.
The flavor begins with a quick hit of hop bitterness that is slightly citrussy and earthy. Then it segues into a dry lightly toasted malt flavor that reminds me of biscuit malt. It finishes with a lingering bitterness blended with the lemony spice and it has a touch of what i percieve to be an iron like taste. I have heard this is from autolysis but i am not sure if it is a flaw or a yeast characteristic. The mouthfeel was full of carbonic bite that lent the beer a refreshing quality.
Overall this isn't that bad of a Saison though I think the recipe needs some further tweeking.

Turbid auric in hue. Topped by a cream - white dense, frothy head. Loose lace remains. Honey and candied almonds upfront in aroma. Secondary wafts of lemon verbana and nectar sweetness. Trace green apple acetaldehyde. Well-rounded aromawise. Grainy, sour - bread notes incipient in flavor. Mild clove and banana mid - palate. Pithy orange - rind bitterness emerges late. As the beer warms, dusty, flour like nites surface. Flacid, somewhat chalky mouthfeel. Could use more carbonation. Finishes slightly vegetal and oily, but with a late lingering tannin - like bitterness at the back of the tongue. A simple and slightly rough saison. Decent, but unexciting.

This beer pours a straw yellow color with a thin white head. The head fades too quickle, leaving a good lacing.

This beer has a strong earthy yeast aroma. It also smells of citrus hops. A slight spicy aroma is also present. It does have a slight sweet aroma also.

This beer tastes a lot like it smells. Yeasty up front. It has a sweet malty flavor. Citrus fruits are also very present. Spices are there also. Cloves, coriander, and orange peel.

This beer is quite crisp and refreshing. It goes down smooth, leaving a yeasty aftertaste. This beer is carbonated to perfection.

I think thus beer would make a good session beer. It is not too aggressive so you could drink it all night. Also, it is not too strong.

I like this beer. I have had it many times, and I will continue to have it when I get the chance.

$2.99 a bomber.

Pours a bright filtered hay clear golden hue topped with a crisp ivory pillowy spongy head cap that slowly drifts to a splotchy coating.

Grassy and slightly musty dry dusty scents. A touch hot in the nose despite a mild 6.8% abv, but the booziness is palpable in the nose.

First swigs: Peppery like a Belgian Pale initially, then an Earthiness opens this one up. Exceptionally dry with a chardonnay like Earthy dryness. Plenty of clove spices abound mixed with a light doughy flour flavor. A phenolic thread weaves throughout the brew.

Tightly carbonated with a linger of cloying vegetal aspect.

Last swigs: More of a coriander spiced Belgian Witte than a true saison. An interesting foray into the saison style, but better saisons are out there. Worth seeking out for the thrill above all else. Reminds me of Yards Saison, but better.

On tap at Barclays in Oakland/Piedmont area.

A: Pale yellowish, slightly under hazed straw with average carbonation and spotty head. Mediocre retention.

N: Harsh lemon, coriander, corn sweetness.

T: Citrus blend, corn, black pepper, coriander. Acidic finish.

MF: Up front tartness is unfortunately overshadowed by too much acid. Chemical and metallic qualities distract.

D: Mediocre at best.

Appears a transparent, light, piss toned gold with a small white head that fades into a mild collar.
Smell is of funk, lemon, cloves, light banana, mild wax-pack bubblegum, and yeast.
Taste is a slight drop off from the aromas but basically the same.
Mouthfeel is mildly sweet, light bodied, with a yeasty finish.

Pours a light amber with a slight haze & moderate white head - fair, but not quite as bubbly as I would like in the style...

As for the aroma, there's some sweet corn (not diacetyl, something grainy and sweet like fresh corn), spicy hops, & perhaps the slightest hint of the typical funk.

Like all good saisons, it hits all over the taste-buds & mouth. There's a sweet, malty, grainy portion that is swept over by hop tannins & effervescense. Weird outlying elements bring in the funk, but only slightly. Not too dry in the end, which is somewhat surprising.

Overall, I like for a bit more fruit & tartness (lemon) in my saisons, but this is an entirely fair example of the style. Perhaps a little more hopped up than I'm used to, but it works. And for the price - $2.50 per bomber - it really can't be beat.
