Format: 75mL taster at Beervana 2014, served by the brewers.
Appearance: poured a cloudy yellow with a thin white head that dropped away pretty quickly. Looks okay for a saison.
Aroma: plenty of yeast fug but missing the earth aromas I would expect from a good saison.
Taste: again plenty of yeast and some bitterness, but without much flavour origins. A bit average.
Aftertaste: lots of unidentifiable bitterness; surely bitterness should be measured out by a decent flavour profile.
Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate carbonation. The feel is pretty decent, with a good astringency on the finish.
Overall: definitely not the best saison I have had. Too much bitterness without any real flavour origins, and not interesting enough. I can't find this one for retail sale in Australia, but considering their NZ Pale Ale was in excess of AU$90 or $100 a case, I would say this would be way dearer. Not worth that.
