Well, not a porter for sure. More like an English Brown or bitter. Copper pour with soapy head that had medium retention. Reddish tints throughout.
Caramel and malty musk aroma, some bread and stale figs.
The yeast really livens up this taste. Tingly with some slight clove and spice. Which are overpowered by the malt and caramel. No roasted or coffee or chocolate flavors which lead me to believe this is not a porter (especially considering their Silver Back is on tap as well. No comparison).
Not a bad brew, but sweet almost to the point of brown ale, the hops and yeast calm this down a bit.

Brewed based upon a beer that the Denver Poet Laureate remembered from his time in the UK. They claim this is a cross between a malty Scottish ale and an English stong bitter.
It's a wee bit strong for either (it's listed as 5.7%) but it's on the cask and served only slightly cool.
Arrives a brownish tan color with a pretty typical thick cask sheen.
Smells actually very much like malty English Ale. I'm actually pretty surprised as I did get a miniature UK flashback.
Taste is very nutty and malty up front, with a smokey sweetness following. On on the back end, the hops keep things from being a malt overkill. The yeastiness from the cask also adds a nice authentic touch. I like it!
It's a little on the thick and chewy side, but it hides the ABV amazingly well. I would've sworn it was under 5% for sure had the menu not said otherwise.
Probably not the greatest Summer beer selection as I had it on a warm night, but I really did enjoy this.
It's not realy going to fit into any style, but it's somewhere between 5-6 UK styles.

Brewed for the Liquid Poetry Contest at Koops on 4/11/07. They has some left over's so enjoyed a pint. The pour is a semi-hazy darker brown but verging on to a more shade of black. Presented with a light fluffy head the great retention and good lacing through out.
The nose is subtle with a more malty presence. Some English malt aromas with hints of caramel and light chocolate. Some lighter yeasty notes that are pretty much in all Koops beers. Not much bittering but a nice floral hop finish that comes out more as it warms.
The flavor is similar. A soft malty presence with a mostly caramel backing. There was a light roast characteristic but subtle. Some lighter nutty flavors that as warmed changed to more of a toffee taste. Noticeable diacetyl but not overly powering. The hops tone down compare to the nose with a more earthy herbal mix. And of course Koops yeasty finish.
The body has more of a mid flavor. Carbonation low but ok per style. Overall I would call this a Brown Porter but not really sure this is exactly what they were going for. And as it warmed, the beer got better.
