On tap at Freshcraft.

Black body with a light tan head.

Muted sweet malty aromas.

The flavor is like a mix between an english brown and a milk stout. Creamy, sweet, and lightly roasty. Bitterness is mild and balancing with no real hop flavor.

Creamy, smooth body.

A little sweet, but a very enjoyable brew. Great for a cool denver evening.

This beer was released on 1/7/11 to commemorate John Hickenlooper's (former Wynkoop partner) inauguration as CO governor. It's made with a host of local ingredients including oats and beet sugar.
Arrives a deep brown color. While there aren't any floating particles, it does look to be unfiltered and a little hazy. A 1/8" cap of foam tops things off and laces the glass as I work my way down.
The beer starts off with big malty flavors - nutty and chocolate infused. The middle reveals bready notes and the sweetness (I'm guessing from the sugar depending on when it was added) starts to come alive. Vanilla notes come out (wood maybe?) a little here as well. The finish is sweet, and I got a little bit of a dusty hop character in the end.
For something at nearly 7%, this is pretty drinkable and I could certainly go for more than one.
Texture is silky and there's no trace of boozy slickness.
All politics aside, this stuff is good. It's not as in-your-face as some of the other big browns out there, but instead works well at capturing lots of malt flavors and things I enjoy from typically milder brown ales.
I'd say this is a winner.
