Collaboration with Holy Mountain Brewing
This is our third collaboration with our friends at Holy Mountain Brewing Company. We got down & dirty with this Hazy Sour IPA, drifting past norms and leaving straight lines in the dust. Haze for days and loaded with Citra, Amarillo, and Summer hops. Aromas of grapefruit, peach pit, and pineapple entice the nose. Notes of juicy grapefruit, citrus, and Jolly Pumpkin funk collide. Don't drink this one 2 fast or you will be 2 furious once it's gone.
TIME IN OAK: 6 Months
HOPS: Summer, Amarillo, Citra, Citra Cryo Hops, Organic MI Chinook, Southern Cross, Amarillo Resinate, Whole Leaf Summit (Mash hopping), & Centennial (Mash hopping)
GRAINS: Pilsner Malt, Wheat Malt, Vienna Malt, Flaked Wheat, Pale Malt, & Acidulated Malt
IBU: 70

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/20/2018. Pours moderately hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, red/green apple, white wine, peppercorn, pine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, leathery/musty funk, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, red/green apple, white wine, peppercorn, pine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, leathery/musty funk, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; peppery Brett spiciness; and light tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/zest, red/green apple, white wine, peppercorn, pine, oak, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, leathery/musty funk, wheat, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, fairly crisp/resinous/rindy/tannic, and lightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.2%. Overall this is an awesome hazy sour IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, oak barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink for the ABV; with the modestly bitter/spicy/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Great Citra, Amarillo, and Summer profile. Awesome balance of juicy/dank/earthy hops and classic funky JP house Brett/Saison yeast complexity; with nice oak presence, and pale/wheat malt backbone. No residual sweetness from crisp/resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and great style example as expected.
