From notes. Poured from a 64 oz. growler into a tulip.
The beer itself is a transparent faded golden color with a pleasantly foamy off-white cap that leaves a few splotches of lace down the sides of the glass.
The aroma is strongly bitter. Grassy notes, some wheatgrass, and a bit of grapefruit overwhelm a soft honey pale malt.
The flavor starts with some light malt with almost no sweetness. A long, strong, harsh bitterness with grassy and wheatgrass undertones. The finish stays bitter and leaves a bitter aftertaste. This is tasty, although it is a one trick pony.
There is a bit of juicy mouthwatering sensation up front, then a long, semi-dry bitterness for the rest of the sip. The carbonation is on the full side, but it’s creamy and does not get in the way. The body is right in the middle.
Overall, this is a nice beer; the strong grassy bitterness is a little different and makes no effort to be subtle. Sometimes the intensely bitter IPA’s don’t impress me if they are too flatly bitter, but this had a nice edge to it.
