Not sure if their unknown but they are definitely un-hyped. Bellerose, a French blonde ale, is very good and very reasonably priced. I would say the same for Victory Mad Kings, which might be my favorite belgian style wheat beer, and firestone opal, an excellent saison

Mississippi is really starting to kick out some great brews. Lazy Magnolia's Southern Pecan has become a staple here. Crooked Letter's Mystery Romp porter is killer. Southern Prohibition's Ragana Baltic Porter and 2014 IPA lead their pack. Mississippi Brewing Company in Gulfport makes some of the freshest beers around (and can only be bought at the microbrewery). Lucky Town's Ballistic Blond is one of my favorite Belgian Blondes. Yalobusha Brewing's Testify is my #1 at the moment: a bourbon barrel milk stout that begs to be sipped.

Very true. I took some liberties since OP used " " for unknown. I would still consider it a beer that many have not had though. Beers like Heady, which I have not had, and Hopslam have roughly 7,000 and 9,200 ratings respectively, where Eliot has 2,300. Edmund Fitzgerald, for example, has 2 1/2 times more reviews. A lot of this is due to lagers and brown ales being passed over for basically any kind of IPA in my opinion. There's the long way of me saying my "unknown" is more "lesser known". Cheers!

    Nice thread!

    1) Anything from Beer'd brewing, a nanobrewery in Stonington, CT. Yes, everyone makes good IPAs and DIPAs; Beer'd makes exceptionally good DIPAs. Additionally, their new Citra single-hop APA, 8 Days a Week, I honestly think is up there in the same air with ZD and APAs by HF (Edward). Exactly as good? Perhaps not (certainly not as hyped). Same weight class? I think it might be. I would love to see a blind taste test between 8DaW, PseudoSue, and ZD.

    2) Echoing @WesMantooth : King Titus from Maine Beer Company. I like Lunch; I love Another One; I think King Titus is out of this world, and quite possibly their best beer. (Full disclosure: I have not yet tried Dinner.) At over 800 reviews, this beer isn't unknown, but considering the MBC lineup, I think it's certainly overlooked.

    3) Southern Tier Oak-Aged Backburner. Virgin oak-aged barleywine. Listed as an American, but came across to me more as an English. The barrel-aging adds a ton. Reminds me of Burton Baton. Delicious.

Honorable mention (quite well-known, but often overlooked): DFH Burton Baton. Almost certainly my favorite DFH ale.

I have not seen that Southern Tier, and they are everywhere around here. Just got added to the hit list.

    * edit It shows as retired. They still making it?

Not sure. I ran into a few bottles at a gas station last year in Syracuse. I had no idea if it was any good or rare or retired or anything; a lucky purchase, it seems. But I thought it was absolutely delicious.

I will second this. Their Breakfast Stout rivals a lot of the heavy hitters around here for coffee stouts and their Berliner Weisse is very good as well.

I nominate Sound Brewing's Monk's Indiscretion. The Latona IPA is spectacular as well (that one is jam packed with juicy tropical fruit).

Agree with the OP - Dream Crusher is a really good DIPA. Also, agree with the poster that said The One They Call Zoe.

    To add a few:
Brunch Money - Armadillo Ale Works. Unique, surprising, and tasty.
Black Thunder - Austin Beerworks. Gold Medal winner in it's style, and a style that's not often discussed here.
Mosaic - Community Beer Co. Very good mosaic IPA. My favorite Texas IPA, and urged me to seek out more Mosaic IPAs.
Blood & Honey - Revolver Brewing. Maybe it's the warm weather, but I find myself craving this one a couple times a week.

Yes it does. If you can get your hands on BB's topcutter, it may be even better.

Bale Breaker Field 41. Brewery calls it a Pale, it's actually an IPA, arguably the best one made in Washington.

Bale Breaker Topcutter, their "actual" IPA, not as crisp as F41, but still excellent.

Chuckanut Pilsner. Arguably the Pils made in the USA.

Skagit River Trumpeter Stout. Great fresh, ages with the best of the style.

Fremont Fresh-hop Cowiche Canyon Pale. Nothing to see here, move along, no looky-lou's.
