I don't care if it's the actual beer or not it's a mind blowing picture!

Not sure if this has a year on it or if it's new... first time I've seen it...
Something of an old ale meets a thin-feeling barleywine. Fruits and sugars suggest dates and pineapple; vanilla and alcohol weave throughout... Medium-bodied but slick and slim-feeling. Leaves some resinous shellac behind, there conjuring impressions of a Scotch ale. Not hoppy enough to be a red ale despite the label. Candied fruit sweet with some spice and shellac. Didn't note the price. Scotch ale and old ale fans may want to take note.

    Cheers...

I think I agree with you, I've enjoyed the Gingerbread, but was very impressed with the BBA Barleywine. I wished I had bought more, but I slept on the bottle in my fridge until it was too late :slight_frown:.

My second offering of the day is an imported dopplebock that I haven't had as yet.

L-Deep cola coloring with a 3/4 inch off white head. The head recedes leaving a modest ring and lots of lacing.
S-Lots of chocolate and dark fruits that you would expect with a dopplebock.
T- All of the dopplebock elements are here. Dark fruit and maybe a bit more chocolate than some of the others I've had in the past.
F-Just enough carbonation to keep it from being full. Mouthfeel is medium and smooth leaving the chocolate to linger on your palate.
O-This is another good imported doppelbock. It differs from some of the others that the chocolate is the dominant flavor rather than the dark fruits.

    Thanks.

Oh, it's the actual beer alright. The color just looks different being held up into the sun.

    Here's a more accurate pic:

Greetings, NBSers, from Minnesota. I'd originally planned to review Great Lakes Alberta Clipper, but the mid-80's temps we've enjoyed today convinced me that a relatively heavy porter wasn't the beer to review today, so I adapted on the fly with this little gem .....

Look: classic APA, golden amber, with 2+ fingers of off-white head.

Smell: floral notes from the hops, with a subtle toffee aroma from the malt. Really nice.

Taste: the hop profile is pleasant, but the Crystal malt is what sets this apart. Really nice flavors, very balanced.

Feel: some oily qualities from the hops, but the Crystal malt keeps everything in balance.

Overall: if I had regular access to this, it would always be in my beer fridge. A great representation of the style.

Been busy doing chores around the house all day, but time now to settle down with a new beer.

This is Early Riser from Cool Springs Brewery out of Nashville. A relatively new brewery, and I think this is my first beer from them, but I always enjoy a good coffee stout, and this had some decent ratings...

Right off the bat, a modest pour yeilded a huge 4 finger head. It took me 3-4 minutes to get a decent amount of beer into the glass. Afterwards, wonderful aromas of rich coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla with flavors to match.

My only complaint is the over carbonation, but otherwise a very nice beer!

New Goze Sunday: Boulevard Hibiscus Goze.

Evenin NBSers, with special greetings to all you Garrulus Guzzlers of Good Gozes.

Well the weather here today was absolutely ideal for late summer/early autumn. Temperatures hovering in the low 70s throughout the afternoon, sunny, with gentle breezes. Could not have asked for a better day for an extended family get together. Of course that means that any music was just background to the various conversations taking place before, during and after eating. But all the clean up is done (except for the dishes... :slight_frown:). (However from the noises in the kitchen, it sounds like my wife has decided that is her job tonight.... Perhaps there are some previously unrecognized benefits to taking a break for a cold one....)

This evening's new beer is the Boulevard Hibiscus Goze and a bit of a toast of appreciation being made to Duvel Moortgat whose purchase/partnership arrangement with Boulevard led to several of the Boulevard beers finally seeing distribution into SE PA. Cheers!

As usual my review (which is subject to revision until the beer is finished) appears here:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/91780/?ba=drtth

This is definitely a beer I'd recommend offering to guest at summer time parties. There's a lot of subtle complexity here for someone who wants that and there's also a lot of just plain simple refreshment if you're not up for anything more challenging than just having a cold one.

    Cheers, all!

This was my new beer for the day too! I even have the same glass but I'm not in the mood for 3 bottles right now, so instead I'll just pour one and a half into my 0.5 L mug. You did such a great assessment of it that rather than re-review it here, I'll just post my photo and share a quick story.

Up until a few days ago, I had no idea this beer was distributed in my area in 6-packs. I went over to the German section of my local store and grabbed what I thought was the regular Paulaner Märzen. I did a double take when I saw the packaging was blue and thought maybe they had changed their packaging. Then I got way more excited than any human being should get when I realized it was the Weisn. You see, the only other time I've had this beer was 8 years ago in the actual Paulaner tent at Oktoberfest in Munich. I thought my chances of ever trying it again were slim to none. Needless to say, this beer is conjuring up some great memories right now. It's amazing how a certain smell or taste can trigger things you haven't thought about in years.

Cheers, BA and congrats on the marathon @JuicesFlowing!

That big orange orb dipped blow the horizon and darkness fell unto the land.

Surround pours a dark obsidian with a thin dark brown head, very thick. Small spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of charred wood, smoke, burnt coffee...get the picture? Does not any real sweetness in the aroma. Flavor is a dark bitter stout with wood, char, hints of smoke. There is some very dark bitter chocolate even hints of dark fruit. Reminds me of an RIS. The feel is very thick and heavy with light carbonation. This one is a sipper that intensifies in flavor as it warms. Rather complex.

Anyway on to my new beer on sunday ..of course.

Crooked Staves Hop Savant Galaxy Brett Ipa.

Poured an amazing hazy golden orange with a huge foamy head.
Taste is a great a deep brett character nice musty flowery kind of funk with a citrus pine like finish.
very effervescent but juicy on the tongue at the same time?
overall I love it..... brett ipas are perfect for me love funky beers but also enjoy hops but not too much.

    Greetings All.

Checking in from the great northwest, where the reality that there will be no Superbowl redemption for the Seahawks is setting in.

Today I have Pinedrops IPA, a fine bottle conditioned offering from the folks at Deschutes.

We bought a new travel trailer in August to replace our pop up. I have a feeling a trip to Bend, Oregon is in the spring travel plans.

Nice fall day here in the Colombia Basin. Clear blue skies with temps in the mid 60's. I had the lawnmower going this afternoon, wondering if it's the last time for the season? We'll see.
