12oz bottle poured into a snifter. This is my second beer from the single origin coffee stout series after trying the Ethiopian blend. The tasting notes of clove, honey, and tea absolutely come through in the nose. The coffee is not as prevalent in either the nose or taste compared to the Ethiopia version but the tasting notes are easily recognized. I enjoyed the Ethiopia version better because it was more coffee forward but this one is a fantastic coffee stout in it's own right.

Well, I was going to post that I had another new beer today, but it turns out I had it and reviewed it 11 years ago!

Moonglow, from Victory is a weizenbock that I gave a 3.73 to in 2005. Although the bottle I had today is fresher than that one, I don't think I would rate it any higher, as I found it too sweet and too alcoholically "hot" for my tastes.

I've got some other beers on hand that are definitely new to me. I may have one of those it a while.

Nope, it's good. If you could rely to that thread, it just makes it a bit simpler for me to make sure I don't miss you.

Enjoying Maine's Hop Program Beer Three. Black ales and black IPAs typically aren't my favorites, but this is well balanced. It pours jet black with a thick mocha cap and generous lacing. The nose and taste are full of copious roasted malts and citrus hops. The only other hoppy black beer I really enjoyed this year was Project PAM. I set a couple back, once the hops fade a bit I think it's going to drink like a barleywine. But I digress, this is a very nice brew from the folks at Maine, I'm not at all surprised.

Always wanted to try this one and the Traquair Jacobite. I see them all the time and have just never pulled the trigger. Added both of them to my beer "to do" list after reading your review.

Ok, so I may have lied about that whole not-having-a-beer-today thing.. Good evening BA's, this is my first NBS post. Today I will be reviewing Innis & Gunn's Toasted Oak IPA. This English IPA is 5.6% ABV, with no freshness date noted.

L-Pale gold, clear, with a creamy white head that diminishes to a thin layer. Not much lacing.

S-A nice amount of oak up-front, some vanilla, earthiness and some citrus notes underlying. Nice, but not overly complex. It is difficult to ascertain all the nuances (a bit muddled)

T- This is an peculiar melding of flavors. Oak,woody, vanilla, and some citrus notes intertwine. Finished with a lingering grassy/earthy bitterness (which is fairly subdued).

F-This one finishes quite dry. Medium-high carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel, which go very well
    together. Quite quaffable indeed.

O-I enjoyed this one. The oak adds an interesting aspect to this beer. Labelled as an IPA, this will no doubt be disappointing if one is looking for a "hop bomb". But this is unique, and it's flavor profile brings enough complexity to the table for it to be worth a try.

I'm starting to enjoy reviewing. It helps me remember a beer far better than if I just rate it. Cheers BA's!

    My first NBS post!

Big tasty brew. Got about half way through when I realized it was 12%.

A nice looking brew, used to my coffee beers being dark. Color is orange with a thin slightly off-white head that quickly settles to a ring around the glass. Not much in the line of lacing.

Aroma is all out coffee, deep, rich and strong. There is a hint of sweetness and a bit of vanilla, giving it a "creamy" quality.

The flavor is pretty similar to the taste. Big coffee bang up front with subtle sweetness, bitterness, and a touch of roasted malt giving it some smoky and chocolate characteristics. The strong coffee flavor does a good job of covering up the high ABV.

Mouth feel is surprisingly light, but has a bit of syrupyness. Moderate carbonation.

Overall it is an impressive brew. It tastes like a cold "regular coffee". A strong cup, but coffee for sure.

Speaking of coffee, here are a few pics from yesterday, they were new to me yesterday, but I didn't have a chance to post in WBAYDN.

Tried all six of the Peche Mortel variants at the Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier's Peche Mortel Day. All great. The peach was surprisingly nice.

Back again with a barrel aged stout.
Been loving stouts lately. I finally get it lol!
Boulavards smokestack series imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels.
Got this in the great 8 mix pack. Probably the best mix pack I've come across. A fantastic farmhouse, IPA, oud bruin style sour and a barrel aged stout.... I mean shit.:stuck_out_tongue:
Probably gonna go buy another just for a few more of these.
    Anyway on to the beer.......

L: Poured dark brown/black.. Small tan head nice retention.

S: So much stuff. Carmel toffee chocolate slight coffee. Slight bourbon/whiskey vanilla oak barrel. A bit of dark fruits.

T: Nice vanilla oaky whiskey up front. Sweet Carmel and toffee. Chocolate cake. Some raisin and oats. Beautiful tasting stuff.

F: Like vanilla velvet. Great. but wish it blanketed my mouth a bit more and stuck around.

O: Really impressed with this as I always am with boulevard. Hides the 11% so well and so balanced between all of the smells and flavors.

    Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel

Beautiful, springlike day here in southeastern Pennsylvania. Would have been the perfect day to while away in a biergarten. Instead, I went on a nature walk (hike would be a stretch) with my wife and daughter. This evening seemed like a good time to crack open a dunkelweizen.

Pours a cloudy, amber-brown color with a massive tan-tinted head. Smells of banana, bubble gum and maybe a little clove. Maybe there's a hint more bready malt in the nose than a plain hefeweizen, but the yeast is what stands out. Soft, lush, fairly full-bodied mouthfeel. The malt is more present in the taste than in the aroma, muting the banana flavor somewhat. Don't know that I'll reach for the dunkel all that often, but it's a nice change of pace. Solid beer.

Rare is it that i open a fresh Old Guardian but seeing as how those most arrogant of bastards went through with dry hopping (Pekko) I figured I'd do them the honor of tasting it in full dry hopping force.

Looks much like expected as a big, foamy beige head settles in over the crystal clear deep ruby red beer. Nice enough lacing, spotty maybe but it's their either way.

Nose is odd, as I get mango, rubber and what is that, sorghum? Also something reminiscent of that stuff inside of those Stretch Armstrong toys.

Taste is immediately a bit sweet followed by grapefruit, rubber and a finish off of heat, which I'll own since it's fresh.

Body is pretty darn thick with a touch of dryness.

Growler number two for me today while rocking some vinyl, Tired Hands Roots Of Perception, a root beer floot stout according to their description.
    4.11/5 rDev +6.2%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

32 oz growler poured into a teku

A- Dark brown, almost black, with a very small tan head that disappears quickly.

S- Root beer blended with a stout. Getting sweetness like root beer along with some spice, mild vanilla, hints of dark chocolate and roasted malts, nicely balanced.

T- Fairly sweet, again root beer blended with a stout is the easiest way to describe it. Root beer, roasted malts, lactose, some vanilla, hints of chocolate, bitterness of the stout gives some balance to the sweetness of the root beer flavors.

M- Smooth, creamy, medium to full body.

O- Missing some of the the qualities that the ice cream adds to a root beer float but still works with what they were going for. A little pricy at $18 for 32 oz growler, but worth at least trying some if you have the chance.

I was having a tough time deciding what my next NBS beer would be. I was looking at my Real Ale bombers, but decided that they were too strong for today, so they will be in a future episode of NBS.

    Now to my choice
    [IMG]
Oliphant Brewing Steve Dirkul Dunkel Lager - 5.6% ABV

This is a nice shade of brown, with a farily thick head, that sticks around. There is a nose, but it's not too strong, but what I do get is very pleasing to me.

Now to the main event. Fairly smooth drinking beer. It feels good in the mouth drinking it. Nice flavor, not too boozy. Just an all around delicious, easy drinking beer.

Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout 2016

Russian Imperial Stout / 10.00% ABV

    4.05/5 rDev n/a | Avg: 4.05
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

The 2016 version is aged in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels.

L-Completely black with no light transferance. It pours a modest half centimeter mocha head. The head quickly recedes to a thin ring with a few islands. Lacing is modest and fleeting.
S- The first smell to hit the nose is the Bourbon. Dark Chocolate then makes its way to the forefront and intermingles with the bourbon.
T-Dark Chocolate is the dominant flavor, but is overtaken by the boozy bourbon from the barrels. Pretty much the opposite to the nose.
F- The beer is thick, and viscous with modest amount of carbonation. The beer coats the tongue and really hits you with the bourbon.
O- A pretty good barrel aged RIS. I'd consider it a notch below the best in the style, but its a pretty good representation. If your not a bourbon fan you should probably stick to the non barrel aged version.

    Hello, NBS friends!

Late start today, but I did get to try a new (for me) organic farmhouse ale from Logsdon out in Oregon. Aberrant pours a clear gold with a nice frothy white head. Nose is a bit of yeast and tart. Taste starts out lemony, the gets DRY, DRY, DRY, very fast. May be some hops, may be some spice, but this thing finishes dry and bitter, yet strangely refreshing. Reminds me of Sofie, but up a notch. A Good beer. A.B.V. At 8.0

    Cheers!
