    Treehouse curiosity 51
Pours beautiful like the IPA of your dreams but drinks bitter and thick. Maybe is too fresh if that's possible. nice head that holds smells very good kind of citrus pithy but the bitter comes across more than I'd expect from treehouse

New Beer Sunday: A Pumpkin Ale

Evenin’ NBSers, with a heads up for folks who might want to try a Pumpkin Ale with a difference.

This evening’s new beer is the Maple Mistress Imperial Ale from Saucony Creek Brewing here in Eastern PA. This is not your father’s pumpkin ale in that it’s brewed with rum spices rather than the customary pumpkin pie spices.

As usual, my review, subject to revision until the beer is finished, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30902/98228/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors do have some pumpkin/squash character but are also filled with a nice blend of cinnamon, clove and vanilla. The maple/malt sweetness does not cloy and is controlled by some spicy bitterness that seems to be from black pepper and ginger. While the alcohol is well hidden here, this is definitely a one-a-night sipping beer which I’ll probably revisit every so often.

This evening the music on the player is a collection of miscellaneous pieces by Beethoven.

    Turkish March

    Cheers, all!

So I was determined to get one in and I will. This one provided by the fabulous @FlintB this week in a contest winner box. Thanks for the opening from @lordofthewiens. I am a huge animal lover. Ive had mostly dogs and cats. I lost my old man Magic a few months ago at 18, a fantastic old cat friend. I still have his calico "sis" at 17 - my furry **** blend Lucy that spends much time with me. All my dogs and cats have been rescues. About 7 months ago a beautiful feral cat wondered into my yard. Ive named her Iris. I am just at the point where I can touch and pet her. Trying to get her ready for the winter so she can get in from the cold.
    Anyhow beer tonight:
Pigeon Hill As Good As your Mom on French Toast.
Pours a dirty oil black with a decent head and some rings of lacing that last throughout the drink.
Aroma is of pure maple syrup with some coffee/toffee burnt sugar notes. Vanilla is also showing itself. There is a lighter almost lemony/metallic note. Burnt waffle griddle.
Taste follows lots of maple, roasted notes and the cinnamon is present but more in the drying on the tongue aspect more than the flavor. There are vanilla notes but there is a metallic aspect that if intentional is genius: again reminds me of a waffle cooked on a griddle. Some coffee/choc/brulee notes.
Feel is thinner in body for a stout. Decent carb, but not alot to chew on. Finishes dry with that lemon wedge and earthy dryness. No hint of alcohol.
Overall a truly unique brew. Its highly drinkable considering most flavored stouts weigh you down. Super flavorful and different. Thank you Brian for the opportunity. My pics:[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Poured from a 16 ounce can. Pours a barely opaque gold with about two fingers worth of foamy white head. The smell is light yeast, but not overwhelming. Very easy drinking with a lighter mouthfeel. Would be easy to drink a few of these.

Those are my pups, the bigger one is Georgia and the smaller is Millie Black. Millie we’ve had since she was 6 weeks old and she just turned 1 last month. She’s a bundle of energy and it grates in Georgia’s nerves sometimes. My wife had Georgia before we were married and she is pushing 5 now. Georgia had trouble accepting me as the alpha initially but we’ve worked through that over the past couple of years. Anyway on to the beers.

This beer is double dry hopped double mosaic dream and comes to me from @CanConPhilly as he is very generous and saw it on my wants list.

The beer pours a turbid, murky, opaque straw golden yellow. Immediately after pouring I smell pineapple which is very ripe. After that there are waves of dank weed and freshly cut grass and a faint hint of sweaty gym socks at times. The taste is sweet pineapple, mango, and sweet fruit. There is no bitterness to speak of and a medium full, almost chewy mouthfeel. The lacing on this is crazy. My first other half and I was not disappointed. If they can pull off this feel on an ipa I’d like to try one of their stouts. Overall a great brew

What's up NBSers! Just got my first box from the NBS BIF thanks to the uber generous @Blackop555 !

Come over and check out the BIF thread for all the shenanigans.

This is my first non spotted cow from New Glarus. I'm loving it! Strawberry Rhubarb.

Hard to see the great deep red with all the condensation on the glass.

Probably the most intense strawberry flavor I've had in a beer. Sweet on the front with a crisp tart finish on the back end. Good earthy spice to balance it out.

Great carbonation to give it a nice lighter mouthfeel.

Really awesome beer. Went perfect with my homemade cinnamon rolls. Now I really can't wait to get into the other New Glarus fruit stuff. Cheers guys!

This is the 750 ml. bottle dwarfed by Uncle Harry!

    A & G Batch 57.
    750 ml.
    Alc. 5.2%.
    Bottled 14/11/17.
    BBD: 26/10/37.
Thanks to Fred for sharing with me.

Gentle pour yields a 1/2 inch white head over a slightly hazy, golden body. Nose of explicit funk with all the bells and whistles. Blue cheese, cellar floor, and wet horse blanket are well represented for a fine example of a classic oude gueze nose! Taste of grapefruit, white grape, and funk. Fantastic mouthfeel as one would expect from the "Champagne of Belgium." After it warms a bit, a hint of minerality comes forward as the funk fades. Overall, such a wonderful experience and I'm grateful for the opportunity. Cheers to Fred!

Welcome to the Finale of Happy New Oliver, The Belz Are Ringing Beer Sunday (Week 710)!

What a pleasant way to spend a day. I had something else in mind for this NBS, but when someone of Peter Belz's ilk lays this kind of potential entry on you, it behooves you to get the aluminum, not lead, out! I always say that there are four (4) things that you NEVER turn down: 1) money, 2) sex, 3) beer & 4) a ride. Otherwise, people are going to think that you are satiated & stop offering. Just sayin'.

I had a great day watching baseball. The Pirates, against VERY long odds, had a winning season & all four (4) of the National League teams came through to set up two (2) one-game playov games tomorrow afternoon. I have not seen an afternoon post-season playov baseball game since I was a kid! Time was that such was the norm, but not now. Sigh.

I also had a great day with Oliver BC beers, CANtinuing with:

although I was perplexed by their Seattle homage (206 is their area code ;=) )

What does the CANstal ball have in Bro./GEN Woody's future? Next Sa is my HS 35-year class reunion, but first, I am attending the 2nd Annual Brew-chanan Fest at Buchanan Park. I am going to inquire about having someone cover my Sunday shift since M is Columbus Day & school is closed. I'll look forward to seeing yinz again early next Sunday morning!

The nose is really a nice strong blood orange aroma. It also has a wild, funky, tartness.

Body is lighter, yet the tartness really lingers in my throat.
Nice wild, funky, tart ale. Very easy drinking.

Goodwood Spruce Tip IPA, 12 fluid ounces of meh. 3.19 overall

Pours a hazed amber with one pinky of cream colored head. Okay lacing & head retention

S: Some bready & piney notes

T: Medicinal bitterness, slight sweetness, a little bit of leafy hop up front. Dryness, piney bitterness & a touch of sweet malt as this warms. Finshes with piney, woody bitterness with dryness

MF: Fairly thin body, minimal carbonation

Just not that good, a poor substitue for DFH's Pennsylvania Tuxedo, a chore to get through. On the the verge of a drainpour

Great wedding, today, and these two are likely to spend the rest of their lives together, they are both such sweet, honest, creative people in ways that mesh. I am glad to say the wedding was a great wedding, but I wouldn't rank it up there with the most fun, which, if your theory is correct, is a good sign for them .

Got another one from @CanConPhilly here. It’s alien church from tired hands, and this is exactly what I think of when I think of the New England style IPAs.

Look is hazy, murky, bright straw yellow. This differs from the other half I just had in that it does look as “thick”. The scent is an amazing blend of pineapple, grapefruit, Pine, wet grass, and a hint of dank weed. The taste is delicious ripe juicy pineapple (the kind that drips down your chin when you bite into it), grapefruit, and pine with a light to medium bitterness kick. The mouthfeel is medium to full and it has lacing for days! Overall this is a great beer and it alone was worth the trade!

Good evening NBSers. Busy day today, but I've got time for a beer or two to unwind. @dprice was my sender in round 2 of the Rookie's BIF and was kind enough to introduce me to Burley Oak and their JREAM series.

Tonight I'm having Triple Berry Cherry JREAM, a sour ale brewed with raspberry, cherry, and lactose and checking in at a whopping 9%:

It pours a deep Ruby red, with a frothy pinkish head. It settles into a thin layer of tiny bubbles and provides delicate lacing. The nose is sweet berry pie. Really remarkable use of lactose to cut both the intense fruit sweetness and the base beer acidity. The result is hardly recognizable as beer in any traditional sense, but holy cow are there some great flavors here and it's incredibly crushable and dangerous for the ABV. Sweet berry and lactose finish.

Really fun beer, I'm glad to have gotten to try this and the carrot cake version yesterday. Cheers all!

Great start. I just started reading, and am kinda bummed at my late start.
As for my furry friends. Well, they're a bit bigger than what's showing in my avatar. 2 rescues. Sonny up front, and his sister Vida laying down. Sonny is now just shy of 60 lbs, and Vida is around 44. They are funny, loving, playful, and sneaky (when it comes to socks).

As for rescues in Las Cruces, I have a feeling you may bump into my brother and his wife soon. They are always fostering there. My brother also does a fair share of transporting rescues out to other, more dog friendly locales.

Be back in a few. I'm thirsty.
