Hardwoods The Pint Of No Return, a black lager. Pours an extremely dark brown, almost black with a one inch beige head that was fairly well retained and left nice lacing. Smell is pretty mild with notes of sweet malts and hops. Tastes of sweet malts, caramel, dark chocolate and a pleasant hop bite on the finish. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, slightly metallic aftertaste. I really have a problem with black lagers in the sense that my brain and palate are expecting a stout and are disappointed.

Good afternoon NBS and thanks to @cjgiant for the thought provoking start to today's festivities. The idea of a big NBS bottle share is intriguing.
This weekend in 1972 my dad with 1 weeks pay in his pocket, 4 kids at home, and a 4 door Ford Falcon started the business (electrical contracting) that has seen so many apprentices grow to Journeymen, families grow, homes purchased, kids put through college, and many move to greater success. I now own that company, and this Monday we take off as a tribute to this weekend so long ago. We mark it down as Founders day, when I told my father this (the first year after purchase) he said, "so in celebration of my hard work, and honest business practices, your giving the company the day off!! ?
Yes we have now for the last 18 years.
    Thanks for the indulgence,
Today's offering is from Greater God Imperial Brewing Co. I fell that the offering is well balanced, hides the 10% well and has a big straight down the middle RIS experience, which frankly I appreciate.

Poured from an undated can at 50 deg into the test glass.
A - A big charge of floaties at the end kept this score down, Bakers chocolate colored, gentle carbonation is hidden. The thin mocha colored cap is evidence of its existence.
S - Roasted malts, a touch of smoky quality, lots of cocoa, and some spices like cinnamon, dark fruits as well.
T - Very much follows the nose, add coffee, and dried plum to that. Big flavors, play well together
M - Thick on the palate, a milky feel adds to the body, carbonation is no match, the center begins to dry a bit, with a wonderful surprise of dark cocoa and coffee at the end.
O - A good offering that I will revisit, the body and feel are great, flavors run in a narrow band which I truly appreciate.
    Export stout big and bold.

A ton s brownish sediment in the bottom of the glass, so I’d expect the spice might be ginger. Fits the beer, and nicely done.

Weyerbacher Raspberry Imperial Stout, 8% ABV. Pours black with a 1.57 finger tan head that left no lacing. Nose is raspberry, taste follows, plus cocoa, a bit tart, very light bitter close. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

I usually don't have as much earlier in the day though between the NBS BIF, and my return home from vaca with new beer, I've got work to do.

Night Lands with Cocoa and Coffee from Triple Crossing seemed like an excellent breakfast beer.

Crowler is dated 9/28, pours deep black with thin mocha head of fine bubbles.
Nose is primarily coffee, some green pepper which I would expect of coffee stouts with much more age on them. Also notes of brown sugar.
Taste is coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, glazed donuts.
Mouthfeel is medium-heavy. No heat, great given the 10%.
Overall I enjoy this beer quite a bit, though the green pepper is a big turn off for me. The balance between bitter and sweet notes are also nicely done.

Also pictured, Chicaoji hot sauce courtesy of @kemoarps. Though I've never had it before, I LOVE this stuff. Its got alot of character- chocolate, smoke notes blend well with vinegar and spice.

L-The beer pours black with brown edges. The head is 2 fingers of tan foam which recedes to a thin ring leaving little lacing.
S-The nose is mostly roast coffee and a bit of chocolate.
T-The taste is a pretty well balanced mix of chocolate and coffee. One note, but a pretty good note in any case.
F-Mouthfeel is overall on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is restrained.
O-An average porter. Not really outstanding in any aspect. It seems more of an American Porter than a Baltic Porter despite the name. Not a bad beer, but doesn't really stand out and make me want to go purchase more either.

    More Blueberry Marbles

First offering from this brewery courtesy of the generous @Jason1221

    4.2/5 rDev -1.6%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance: You don’t get many can gushers. This didn’t “gush” per se, but it bubbled up as you can see in the picture. An attractive beer. It is an opaque mashed blueberry / plum skin color. The head is a dish soap foam appearance of light purple in color. No lacing or head as I drink the beer. Give this beer a vigorous swirl and you will easily reinvigorate the head on it.

Smell: This beer smells like sweet, creamy, blueberry yogurt. Yoplait. There’s also a slight sour note that you’d expect from yogurt. Huge, sweet aroma of the tropical version Starburst, which includes lemon and orange citrus.

Taste: The flavor definitely follows suit. But what I really do like about this beer is that while it is sweet, there is a tartness reminiscent of the hard, purple, tart blueberries that you find in the container. A sweet milkshake like flavor, also with notes of unripened banana. The beer finishes slightly tart, bitter and dry. It keeps the beer balanced and drinkable for me.

Mouthfeel: Moderate level of carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

Overall: I don’t drink a lot of these Milkshake IPA’s. And one per sitting seems sufficient for me. I really like this one. The finish that I mentioned above with tart, bitter and dry notes makes this beer for me. I think these qualities make it drinkable and enjoyable. Very well done beer.

    Go Giants!!!

Nor Cal, a 6.5% ABV West Coast IPA by Fourpure from the UK and Bear Republic from the USA

Pours a deep golden amber coloration with a medium, foamy head. Smells of light caramel malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple, a certain floral note and just the merest hint of pine.

Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of caramel malt and citrus/tropical hops. Notes of zesty orange rind, grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple, light resin and just a hint of pine. Also has a certain floral note to it that seems somewhat out of place. Finishes with a medium bitterness and a little more resin/pine coming through in the aftertaste. Slightly thin mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.

This has a good balance of slightly sweet caramel malt and zesty orange/tangerine going for it, but not enough pine/resin and bitterness for a proper WCIPA in my opinion. A little light bodied as well, but not too bad. Has that floral, slightly synthetic tasting orange tic tac note to it that I'm starting to associate with Galaxy hops and am really not a fan of, to be honest.

    The review:
330mL bottled 2016 poured into a becher glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours hefe-hazy straw yellow to gold in color with a nearly white head that fizzled out like a cola when poured. No head or lacing after 90 seconds. The aroma is perplexing with ripe peach, clove, pineapple and wheat all coming and going from one inhale to the next. The taste is mildly sour with with bits and pieces of the peaches, raw wheat and mixed fermentation all taking turns on the tongue. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with low carbonation, but sharp & prickly feel. There is no bitterness nor sweetness to speak of. Very dry. Overall, I can't guess. I've never reviewed a fruit lambic before on BA. This is nothing like the Lindemans versions I've sampled in the past.

So, fruit lambic is ticked and I have 3 beers to give away all for $8 total. I'm not a fan of any sour style, so I try a new style every few months. Just straight lambic & gueuze left to try. Maybe next summer? Cheers

Howdy NBS! Since I have tomorrow off, I'm going to be drinking and discussing a bunch of new beers today! Hooray! The first one is the most confusing of the bunch, because I have no freaking idea what to expect out of it.

I've really liked Fort Hill's stuff for the most part, and their beer is some of the cheapest around (they make an excellent hazy double IPA for under $10 a six pack, to give you an idea of where I'm coming from with such a statement). This is a weird one, though. A golden strong ale clocking in at 8.7%. Is it hoppy? Is the flavor influenced by a certain kind of yeast? Is it just going to be some weird, randomly giant beer with no specific characteristics going for it? I'm gonna go with that last one; call it a hunch. Still, let's give it a fair shake!

This pours a darker-than-expected color... like a more honeyed hue than a "golden" ale would typically be, but I assume it has a hefty malt bill that gives it some deepness. It's really hazy but not opaque, with a thin but retentive head that leaves behind a bit of spotty lace. Nothing really impressive here, though, to be honest.

The nose is very honey-forward, with a light sniff of grainy wheat and light suggestions of orchard fruit. This is probably going to be pretty dang boring and one-dimensional, I'd think, based on my initial impressions. It's got like... a little bit of red apple and apricot, but even the yeast seems listless and boring; dusty and neutral. Pretty much expected this, but whatever.

The flavor profile is... not muuuuch different. It has a strong honey flavor with some notes of plum and apricot, with a tiny bit of spice (likely just from the ethanol itself). The finish is a little cardboard-y, and there are next to no hop characteristics to speak of. This reminds me of an ale version of a plain ol' malt liquor or something. Just something to crush and get drunk from without caring much about the flavor. I will say that the feel here is quite good; medium body with some heft to it... still lighter than I figured it would be considering the hefty grain bill and strength. Some solid carbonation and a simplistic finish make it easier-than-expected drinking.

I just don't... understand why you would purposely make this in 2018. :joy: Such an anomaly.

    Two roads ok2toberfest
    .. cloudy copper brown color
.. medium body with about average carbonation, overall a very nice feel
..aroma is roasted malts, yeasty bread, toasted bread, caramel, and cereal.
Taste is almost identical to aroma, it is sweet but not overly so. It is malt driven but far from being a malt bomb,if anything the malt is held back enough to allow other flavors to show up.
Overall I thought it was an excellent take on the style[IMG]
