Awesome NEDIPA. Great rocky head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew, watermelon, guava, strawberry, blueberry, citrus peel/zest, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; creamy, bready, grainy wheat/oats, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 8%. Awesome Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, El Dorado, and Mosaic profile. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. Would buy again. Liked it just as much as Epiphany, but this is closer to an actual NEIPA than that one. 4.1

New Beer Sunday: Fruit and Field Beer

Evenin’ NBSers and a heads up to raspberry lovers.

This evening’s new beer is the Blushing Monk from Founders.

My review, subject to revision until this sipping beer is finished, can be found here.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199/25852/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors of this beer are mostly about the raspberries. There’s a bit light tartness along with the sweetness from the raspberries and the malt. There’s also just a bit of spiciness that make things a bit more complex. This is definitely a sipping beer, if only to keep the fruit tinged sweetness from becoming cloying. I’m enjoying sipping through this beer and would drink another if offered. However, that said, I don’t think I’ll be looking for another. Just a bit too intense for my tastes.

The music on the player this evening is by Ottorino Respighi.

    Cheers, all!

Can get some. And theyre no longer a hidden gem. They've moved to a much larger facility with a brand new taproom in Warwick a bigger city in RI. BM me if youre interested.

I love this brew yet still pick Epiphany as my top from them as well as just a top IPA from NE period. I think its the originality. Truly a "Maine IPA" rather than a NEIPA

Good evening & happy St. Patrick's Day NBS
I worked today and am now catching up with my family and comparing an Irish and Hoosier dry stout. First up "craft brewed in Ireland"
    The review:
330mL bottle BB 28 JAN 2020 poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 4.5% ABV. The beer pours very dark brown with brown highlights and mocha colored head. The head recedes to a few patches of bubbles leaving quite a bit of lacing. The aroma is mild with coffee at the forefront and subtle roast in the background. The taste is mild roasted malt with a bit of tangyness for accent. The finish is mildly bitter and dry. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with less than medium carbonation. Overall, very good to style.

    The review:
12oz can marked 04/25/19 (no indication of born on or best before?) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours nearly black with only a hint of brown highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves no lacing. The aroma is roasted malt first with some dark chocolate as well. The taste is debittered dark malt and slight tang. Very minor bitterness on the mostly dry finish. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with less than medium carbonation. Overall, ok. This is a dark colored ale more than a dry stout.

It's hard for me to put into words the difference between these two beers. The Sun King lacked in every category. I'm no professional brewer, but I would imagine there are some subtle treatments of water, hopping, malts etc. that make the difference. The O'Shea's is one of the better examples I've tried in a style I don't really care for.

Thanks for the start @lordofthewiens. I attended Purdue University from 92-96. I witnessed a handful of football wins (literally) in that time and plenty of basketball success. Glen Robinson was the king of the campus then. My son plans to attend there in a little over a year, so I'll likely be getting more in touch with my inner weekend warrior then.

    Cheers all!

    750 ml. bottle.
Moderate pour into a Hill Farmstead tasting glass yields a 1/2 inch white head over a bright golden body with no lacing. Head dissipates to nothing in a few minutes. Nose of grass, hay, slight funk, yellow grapefruit, pink grapefruit, and oak. Tart citrus flavors with a touch of sweet citrus. The oak asserts itself to my liking after it warms a bit. Nice feel with a tart finish of citrus pith and oak. Cheers to Shaun Hill and his collaborators for a wonderful wild sour!

There used to be an English pub by my office that had the core Fullers lineup, including the ESB. At one point they stopped serving the ESB because it was “too expensive.” The bar has since shut down. I do miss drinking that beer on tap.

This beer comes to me courtesy of @AyatollahGold who apparently read in this thread when I reviewed BA Behemoth that I never had the base beer. Oh, he sent me one of those too, so it’ll show up in this thread next weekend.

Look: This beer pours a murky, but translucent dark amber / copper color. A two finger off white head settles to a thin layer across the top of the beer while leaving some lacing in its wake. I’ve not had a ton of ESB, but I’ve had some a lot, such as Fullers. That beer is bright, this one is not. Overall, an attractive color with nice head retention. An enticing looking beer.

Smell: The aroma is sweet crushed grains, bready caramel malt profile. Some earthy tea notes and a pleasant fresh apricot fruitiness. Some dried apricot sweetness and hints of vanilla. A touch spicy.

Flavor: This is a beautiful beer. Upfront a bready sweetness with some vanilla, dried apricot and candied orange sweetness as well. Transitions beautifully to a dry earthy and lightly citrusy hop profile of pine and lemon.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and pillowy soft mouthfeel with a low level of carbonation.

Overall: This is an excellent beer that offers some nice malt sweetness and hop flavors. It’s balanced in that regard. This is basically my ideal drinking beer. I would love to drink this on cask.

Thanks for this one, Dayton! This is an excellent beer, and the more I drink FFF the more I like them!

4.25 across the board with a +2.9% rDev.

Manager gave me a free crowler, as they didn't match up my order last time I went. Really didn't matter to me, but I highly recommend this place. Awesome American stout. Fantastic rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery hops; and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; creamy, silky, bready, grainy malts; some sticky hops, and chalky char/roast in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering hop/char bitter dryness, no cloying, acrid, astringency. Very smooth, not overly bitter/charred, no warmth of 6.3%. Awesome balance of rich dark/roast/black/bready malts and earthy hops. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. Super spot on classic tasting style. 4.13

Need to empty the cellar a bit. Grabbing this from 2017 that I never opened for some reason. The family's starting spring break this week, but I'm working all week. Boo....

Bottled 2/20/17. Pours a deep, thick black with no head and no lacing.

The smell is loaded with dark malts, liquorice, vanilla, and dark fruits.

The taste is bitter dark fruit then moves to tons of char and leather. A very long, bitter finish.

The mouthfeel is fairly thick with medium carbonation and lingering bitterness.

Overall a good, complex stout with lots of flavors.

It's getting late, so I was debating whether to open this last one, but I've been saving this one for today, so...

    Lift Bridge Irish Coffee Stout
    2018 bottling

    ABV: 8.0%
    IBU: 29
    [IMG]

Brewed by a local brewery (Stillwater, MN). This one has a pretty good reputation, so I finally gave in and bought one.

Black, impenetrable black. If you shine a back-light, there is a little ruby around the edges. 1/2 inch tan head, recedes fairly quickly to bubble islands on a thin cap and ring. Strings of lacing.

Aroma is roasted coffee, just hints of the barrel, with some sweetness that is almost vanilla. But it is the roasted coffee and roasted malts that dominate the aroma.

Taste is roasted, slightly bitter coffee. Disappointingly, not much whiskey in the taste. A little more as it warms, but still not much. There is a sweet-ish vanilla behind the coffee that transitions to a slightly sticky, moderately bitter dry finish. Bitterness and coffee lingers into the aftertaste. Despite the blending with a milk stout, it tastes more like there is a solid backbone of Irish Dry Stout in there, complemented by the coffee. The lactose does smooth this out, though, so it is there. No booziness.

    Moderate to thick creamy body.

Well done, but less than I was expecting. Advertised as a blending of barrel-aged stout and a milk stout. But, it tastes like a coffee-infused somewhat smooth Irish Dry Stout. Fits well as a St. Patrick's Day beer, but I've had better barrel-aged coffee stouts.

    L: 4.25
    S: 3.5
    T: 3.75
    F: 4.25
    O: 4

which computes to a BA rating of 3.82, a bit below the consensus rating of 4.08.
