I haven’t the Keller Pils, but I brought Sly Fox Pils for the beach this year, dependable excellence. Easy to get and it’s fresh most everywhere.

Happy NFL Sunday, BAs. I’m joking @NotAlcoholicJustAHobby in this new-to-me Oktoberfest.

It pours a clear, light copper with a finger of dense off-white head that leaves lovely, thick sheets of lacing.

It has a bready, very lightly-toasted malt aroma with a touch of lemon that makes it a little distinctive.

It’s less bready tasting than the nose suggested, but the kiss of lemon is again up front. There’s a little breadiness, though, along with solid bitterness for the style. It has a fairly dry finish.

The mouthfeel is creamy with some zippy carbonation.

This is a very tasty beverage with the twist of lemon making it a particular good summer-fall transition beer. It’s sweeter than Hofbrau or Weihenstephaner, but not over-the-top at all.

    Go Birds! :beers:

..aroma is low acid coffee beans, roasted malts, black coffee
..taste is again low acid fresh brewed black coffee and roasted malts. Theres a lingering cream and coffee taste that stays on the tongue . Theres some alcohol and bourbon that also shows up

Have you tried Sly Fox Oktoberfest yet? I bought a 6-pack of the Oktoberfest (again, less than 10 bucks) a week ago and I only got to drink one can since my wife was drinking them all (except that one). I will buy another 6-pack today with the hopes that I will get to drink two cans this time?:flushed:

    GO EAGLES!!

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 8/12/19. Pours a very attractive amber orange with a 3 plus finger sticky white head that leaves a thin wall of lace as it slowly settles.

Smell is melon, mandarin, white grapes, pine, and grapefruit. 3.5

Taste follows honey dew, orange, grapes, pine, and grapefruit. 3.75

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, a touch dry, plenty of life, and at 7% ABV goes down plenty easy. 4

Overall this is a IPA and sadly 5 years ago the score would have been higher, but still a very nice and balanced IPA. 3.75

Light, golden and clear with a billowing white head from a moderately aggressive pour. Grainy, corny and sweet aroma that finishes with a little bit of alcohol. Sweet taste initially that goes in two directions. First, there’s the obvious sweet and corny taste but secondly, there’s an undeniable earthiness that comes across like Perrier or some sort of mineral water. Finish is light and dry while the feel was slightly creamy and solidly medium bodied.

I usually forego the music on this thread but how is that really possible while drinking this particular beer

Happy New Tying Up Loose Ends Beer Sunday (Week 759), Part Deux!
This series of entries hearkens back to Week 750 & m'man, @Jimmy_Kneecaps who inspired me to embark on several days walking on the Odd Side while listening to Lou Reed. I would have sworn that I had delved as deeply as I could into that brewery during that horizontal which lasted a couple/few days (!), but there were some holdouts, like:

Haven't Bottles died yet?!? What more CAN I do? I am halfheartedly kidding, of course, but the sneers & derision from when I initially embarked on The CANQuest (tm) still echo. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find Bottled beers & while I am down with it, it still seems very odd to see the plethora of CANs.

All right, I'm leaving the Odd Side so I'll post now & return later with some more Odds 'n' sods from old friends for you sods!

Good afternoon NBS & thanks for kicking us off today @cjgiant:wink:!
I'm not an NFL fan for a number of reasons, but I'll readily talk about beer and BA for a minute. Before I discuss the beer at hand I'd like to explain how I procured this delicious stout. I beer mailed a particular BA a couple months ago after he lamented not having Bamburana show up locally. I explained it was shelf beer here and I'd be happy to send some for an Arkansas tick. Well, @russpowell is one hell of a good guy and he hit me back with the #1 beer from his state in a great box of beer. Many thanks man and if you ever happen to traverse the I64 corridor, hit me up. Your drinks are on me.

12oz can labeled 2019 poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at fridge temp 10.3% ABV. The beer pours dense oily black with strong mocha head on hard pour. The head recedes to a half inch cap and leaves some lacing. The aroma is immediately noticeable after the pour with elements of chocolate, vanilla, oak and bourbon. The taste is semisweet caramel and roasted malt with coffee, vanilla, chocolate, oak and bourbon all popping through mid palate before a moderately bitter finish. The mouthfeel is full to medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. No sign of the ABV in the taste or aroma. Very balanced and not cloying, yet luxuriously rich. Overall, outstanding.

This beer's reputation isn't about 8 can limits or inaccessibility. It's really that good. Cheers all!

The next up is another one that I’ve wanted to try for years, and another one that doesn’t disappoint!

    From @Bum4ever we have

    Beer: Fundamental Observation (no. 5)
    Brewery: Bottle Logic
    ABV: 13.55%
    [IMG]
Pouring from a 16.9 oz bottle into a PAA Dino glass, this beer pours out like a blanket of night sky that coats the glass with a blackness. Almost two fingers of light caramel/peanut colored crown rest on top. Crown sticks around for a few minutes before receding and settling into a ring attached to the glass.

The nose is melted, sticky marshmallows. Almost like the marshmallow creme. Fudgey chocolate, brownie batter, cocoa mix.

The taste brings in marshmallow creme as well, along with vanilla and chocolate cake batter, cocoa mix, very slight touch of dark fruit and leather. Faint booziness and dry oak.

Sticky, full, coating sweetness and finishes with the dry oak. There is a warmth from the barrels and alcohol, but it never strikes out of balance.

Overall, I’m happy that this did not disappoint my expectations as I have waited years to try it. I like how everything mixes.

Huge thanks to Josh & cheers to the rest of you NBS!

    New Beer AND Brewery Sunday

    White Rooster Farmhouse Brewery

Laps de Temps (Second Anniversary Blend Spring 2019) w/ Apricots, Plums and Blackberries

Look: The plum and blackberry drive the color of this beer. Bright crimson with some magenta mixed in. Opaque. A white, loosely packed head immediately disappears. A lively beer with lots of bubbles streaming up. A gorgeous color.

Smell: All of the fruits come through, but the aroma is dominated by the apricot and plum. Dripping with juice. Some sweet jammy notes and a lot lemon juice acidity and vinegar. A moderate basement must and a dry grainy / crackery / wheat-like aroma. A powdery floral aroma too.

Taste: Sweet plum and blackberry jamon the tip of tongue. As the beer washes over my palate this sweetness quickly shifts to fresh, tart, blackberry with lemon juice acidity. The must comes through on the flavor as well, as does the dry, crackery, wheat-like flavor.

Feel: Medium level of carbonation. Semi-dry and a bit gritty with a rather full mouthfeel. Lingering dryness.

Overall: I think this fruited sour is really nice. I really wanted to try White Rooster for the first time. At first I thought it was very good, but nothing special. I actually enjoyed drinking the beer more and found additional complexity previously lacking as the beer warmed up. The musty and floral aroma began to shine through. And what at first drank like a rather one dimensional beer with fruity acidity took on a nice dry, crackery finish. Really well done.

Also, every single brewery that waxes their bottles should add this doohickey:

Pours a lighter ember color with a small head atop.

Has a floral honey driven red grape smell with a well pronounced vinous tartness to it.

Drinks light with a balancing softness and just a whiff of carbonation during the finish.

Starts of sweet with floral, ripe red wine grapes and a big honey appearance, toned down by an immediately uprising tartness. Has an aqueous quality after this first impression, more sour and funky, with cream cheese and old leather cutting through. Finishes clean, with younger appearing grapes, moldy oak and light citrus.

Very close to a rich red wine with a great tartness to balance things out in a very compelling way.

Yes, it's football season again. I enjoy watching both the colleges and the pros. Will someone else challenge Alabama and Clemson this year? Will the Patriots win the Super Bowl again. Should be fun.
My new beer for today is another one I brought back from California, Old Man Hattan from Firestone Walker Brewing Company. It is the 2019 vintage, No. 002, and is 9.6% ABV.
The beer is a dark brown color with a thin tan head that leaves a little lace.
Boozy aroma, also caramel, toffee, and dark fruit.
I get mostly caramel and toffee in the taste. Whiskey, of course. Some raisin and some cherry late.
Nice and smooth, and very drinkable.

Founders Underground Mountain Brown, 11.9% ABV. Pours dark brown with a 1+ finger foamy beige head that left little lacing. Nose is coffee, bourbon, chocolate, and sweet vanilla. Taste is coffee up front, some bourbon in the close, some vanilla in-between, slight bitterness. Excellent smooth mouthfeel, overall world-class. I like this better than KBS.

Taking a break from chores...once upon a time I was a rabid football/basketball fan (Go Cowboys!); didn’t miss a Mountaineer game for 10 years; had season tickets/great seats (10 years) for all the Gator games...went to 4 final fours (took Jr. Z to 2 [2006 and 2007]), then he grew up, went to college, and I retired...the wife hates sports (and beer)...I haven’t watched a full game of anything in years...no complaints, I’m still drinking beer...

Oskar Blues’ “Can-O-Bliss” Hazy IPA. A “Mountain India Pale Ale”. Canned 7/19/19. ABV 7.2%. Friends on this site have posted favorable comments, I like the the brewery, so I grabbed a six pack yesterday:

    4.75 | 3.75 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0

Pours an opaque pale gold (4+) with big mousse-like white foam; long lasting cap retention; solid ring; heavy lacing. Lemongrass and light earthy hops nose. Lemongrass and overripe tropical fruit - mango and pineapple; melon; no bitterness; semi sweet malt base. Medium minus body; not full, fluffy or juicy; no hop astringency; moderate carbonation; clean feel. Overall, another commercial NEIPA “lite” beer for the masses; perhaps, given the monicker “Mountain” IPA, the Brewer is just cashing in on the current craze for “hazy” beers with no allusion to offering a NEIPA, which this beer clearly is not...yes, it has no bitterness, but it is barely hazy, and it is clean, crisp, light and easy drinking and not within the NEIPA style Guidelines, or similar to other NEIPAs I’ve had; I like it and will gladly finish the 6, but the flavor, while good enough, is not what I want in an IPA.

I think I’ll drink another and get back to my chores...Cheers BAs!
