Well, Maybe the 25-34 are all living with their parents, tasting beer, and wining about the weather? Anyone thought of that? Can that 1st category be broken down further? it looks like the California house of representatives...

Would be good to distinguish between those demographics.

As a professional data geek I have to put my input on this topic. A couple of things scream out, first: "The data is based on hundreds of thousands of registered users and tens of millions of visitors." Okay, one of those numbers is *so* much larger, analytically speaking, that it should be broken out to its own data set. Second, there is a reason the phrase "Lies, damn lies and statistics" is not only enduring, but seldom wrong. Large quantities of data is easy and generating numbers and percentages and stats from that data is not a challenge. But doing it in a way that portrays a truth, or at very least reality, *is* difficult. So that "fraction" of your overall users will actually more likely be data broken down closer to what everybody is expecting, and conversely, excluding that data (registered users) from the larger visitors data will barely nudge the numbers you've already posted.
All that stated, I'm not trying to knock what you have done, rather explain why the numbers are not what people are expecting. The fact you ran the numbers at all is very fun, kudos. It is primarily for fun after all. Now I relinquish the soapbox (only categories 4 and 5 will know what that means) and return to being schooled on the stuff I am still a noob at, beer.

This is exactly why it was posted. Nothing more, nothing less. A simple reply to a simple request.

Not sure if trolling but we're able to do this in spite of what boomers left in their wake.

Didn’t read the whole thread, but unclear about whether the data show unique users or site visits. If the BA stats are site visits, how do they compare to the user accounts (assuming those have birthdates?) — Stats prof here, always looking for fun examples!

I never thought BA was for older people. Always thought it was primarily 27 yo line culture geeks without kids so they have the time to stand in said lines.

It was explained and clarified in several posts and too much to repeat, so I'll suggest that you read the thread. Here's a link to a search of each post in the thread by Todd, which should be a good starting point.

Curious as to the margin of error for people under 21 lying about their age? I guess it is probably pretty insignificant

I’m in that golden age group (#5). Seems we don’t have many members.

Just a theory, beer drinkers in my age group started their beer habit when pretty much all there was to drink was American Adjunct Lager, and the few beers from Europe. Lowenbrau, Heineken, Becks, etc. And these, while much truer styles, were pretty much what the American companies were trying to mimic taste-wise. There was also massive advertising and marketing which swayed most drinkers (thus the popularity of Bud). I believe that most of these beer drinkers found what they liked (or thought they liked), and found no reason to explore. And let’s face it, human beings can be stubborn, and unwilling to try new tastes. After downing a Bud, a West Coast IPA would blow that drinker’s taste buds to hell. Thus fewer from this age group would likely become BA members.

I probably shouldn't bother being so paranoid since ALL of my information is already out there from the hack of OPM a few years ago, to say nothing of other hacks that got pieces of my information.

Damn, I'll hit 70 soon, never thought I'd make it this far. Lost some great friends along the way that I dearly miss. To Joe, Uncle Richie, & Saur' Baur' and the M&M brothers. Keep that stool open.......
