I don't drink alcohol besides beer and the occasional glass of wine, but if I did I would drink scotch. I enjoy that smoky peaty flavor, and have absolutely loved the very few beers I've had aged in such barrels. The only ones I recall are Stone's Double Bastard Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and Schlafly's Ibex Scottish Ale. It's been 3+ years since those were brewed and a year since I ran out of my cellared bottles. Does anyone know of any other peated Scotch barrel aged beers I might be able to get my hands on?

If you can find it around, one of the most recent Dragon's Milk Reserve series is Scotch Barrel Aged Dragon's Milk with dark chocolate and marshmallows. It's very tasty. You definitely get some peat smoke.

I’m not 100% sure. I had it once here on draft. I’ve never seen bottles here.

The Belgium brewery, De Dochter van de Korenaar did a peat smoked version of Embrasse. Many of the De Dochter products are available stateside. Embrasse is an outstanding beer well worth seeking out.
Good luck with the hunt! Cheers.

De Molen makes a few pleated smoked beers.

I have not had the prayer beers but every beer I’ve had from them is great. Rook & Leer Is one of my favorite beers of all time. I ended up having two glasses on tap the time I saw it on tap. Wow , it was just amazing.

    Enjoy

I am not a big fan of these characters, so I am far from an expert in the style, but in my opinion the Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy Style of beer tends to have a lot of brews that are pretty prominent in terms of that scotch-like peat character, whether they are barrel aged or not.

Thanks for the suggestions! I knew there had to be a few out there. Now to see if I can actually find some. I can't even find regular Harvest any more but I actually recall seeing the Lagavulin version a while back.

no. Bottles were sold at the brewery only. It was SUPER peaty. I can to the form to recommend that beer. Only bummer is I’ve only seen it once at the brewery. Probably a one off.

Jackie O's scotch aged dark apparition was the best ive had stout wise. Jw lees laguvulin probably gets my nod for overall best.

I love Islay whiskies, it’s a love or hate as there’s not much room for middling feelings here. The only one I’ve had was the JW Lee and I thought it was pretty nasty, enough so that I poured it out. I might try it again as I’ve tried about every Islay out there remotely affordable so I have a lot more experience, but I remembered it as being very sweet.

I had a Fort George Laphroaig barrel aged beer called Wolf Spider around Christmas of 2019. I didn't realize the barrel when we had it on tap in the small tasting room. We had been drinking robustly, but I loved it! It had a meaty smoke note to it that I've some to enjoy in some Scotches, but could see that beer being as polarizing as Islay Scotch can be.

Other than that, I haven't seen too many Scotch-barrel aged beers available to have a strong opinion on them in general. I added the one I mentioned as a one off and no one has rated it since early 2020, so it quite likely was a special batch, unfortunately.
