ya BA Doppelbocks are a odd animal. They are touchy, it doesn't always come out right. And many of them do not age well and are best kept cold.
This one held up well for sitting warm for 2 years:

Good Sunday morning and thanks to our host this week.
Cheers to all the Moms out there.
Todays offering is from Sterling Street Brewing in Clinton Ma.
Stopped in yesterday while going to the semi annual Wachusett Dam walk yesterday.
Wachusett Dam is still the largest hand built earthen/stone dam in the world, and strikingly beautiful.

    Cheers all

Poured from an undated can purchased at the brewery.
A - Dark brown color hides the interior well. A lovely tight knit mocha cap resides. Excellent formation and retention
S - Touch of char, chocolate malt, notes of piney hops
T - Nice flavor group with those cocoa notes balanced against, piney bitterness
M - Creamy on the palate, with again a lovely balance of semi sweet and bitter
O - A very good stout with that northwest hop bite

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned on 4/24/24. Pours a very attractive hazy yellow with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace with nice retention. 4.5

Aroma is vanilla and peach dominate, with some passionfruit, mango, and apricot severally muted in the background. 4

Taste follows vanilla hits first, peach, mango, passionfruit, and apricot vanilla stands tallest. 4

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8.2% it goes down very easy. 4.5

Overall I wish they would cut the vanilla in half on these releases, but still very nice. 4.25 Cheers all.

A very nice start. Beautiful to look at.
Nose pops off with a rather dry roast with hints of caramel.
Flavor follows faithfully, but a tad lighter. A most delicate chocolate malt comes in, but hard to maintain. Very little sweetness.
Mouthfeel is a tad thinner than expected.
Overall, pretty good, but not quite as advertised.

You’d have to check their site, but they ship to some states (eg Ohio and Virginia to name two).

    Forgotten Boardwalk Smoked Porter
    5.7%
    [IMG]

Poured from a pint can, the body is a dark black with a small tan head. Not much lacing to speak of.

Aroma is tobacco, smoke and coffee.

Tate follows nose. The body carries more smoke than the nose. The smokiness approaches a smoky ham flavor. The coffee flavor comes mid swallow and balances the smoke. A passing hoppiness also is in the mix, but not for long as the smoke dominates.

Mouthfeel is supported by good carbonation but is medium.

A good porter for fans of smoky beer.

Thanks to @HoppingMadMonk for this porter. Cheers.

Well, unknowingly we hit both of your pieces of advice first flight to Charleston tomorrow AM and first flight back home to Philadelphia, even earlier AM on Wednesday.

Thanks for talking me down beer friends, Mrs Phisher has had enough of my anxiousness "Jon, we'll be fine" "Jon, you'll be fine"...on and on haha. Got sloppy joes and veggie made for the next few nights so she has that taken care of and the kids love them.

    ---------------

My dad is already there and I said no beer shopping without me  Also found out Charles Towne Fermentory, a place that came recommended in some threads here is only 1.5 miles away from hotel. So long as we have a few minutes possible at the end of our days, a siblings trip to grab a late night beer if our trip allows it, I'll save it for a NBW post next weekend since I may be sitting out today just to get as much rest as possible for this quick yet emotionally long trip.

Keep the good beers coming everyone!

Sorry I didn’t see (actually read) the first part of your post, Jon. I travel a LOT for work and have for the last 25 years (over 900,000 miles between Delta and American). You’ve received some good tips from @LeRose and @ChicagoJ , and I’d just add to make sure you get to the airport at least 90 minutes before your departure time - I doubt you have TSA pre-check, so give yourself plenty of time to maneuver through security. I fly some to and Newark, and it’s pretty manageable, but extra time will decrease your stress, IMHO.

I also make sure I have a good book, which relaxes me. Music or streaming a favorite show is of course also an option. Food/drink may be an option, but both are SPENDY, so if you get a beer and a sandwich/fries, don’t faint when the tab is $35+ - before any tipping.

Hope that helps. Travel safely, and my condolences, Jon.

Man, it's been a long time since I even worried about it. For me, what I would always worry about was burdening my wife with solo parenting. She's proven 1,000x more capable at parenting than me, and the kids have gotten less demanding, at least in many ways that benefit from an extra pair of hands.

So...my unemotional, engineering answer: Review the known and likely logistics with the staying-home-parent and reassure yourself that bases are covered (which also reassures the staying-home-parent, and lets them know you understand their situation, not just bailing out).

Digging around under the frosty engineering veneer for some emotions...Call, check up on them, bring back a treat or a gift...also, trying some interesting beer helps distract.

Sorry for whatever loss is taking you away to a funeral. Hope all is well.

Thank you Mike, I do have my book ready, downloaded some phish shows to listen to and only carry on bags. Sounds like I’m good to go…hopefully I have some beers to share next weekend with you all, or y’all as my aunt would’ve said.

Unfortunately it was a quick and bad decline but uncle and cousins are just excited for us to all to be together for the first time since family vacations of years ago.

Thanks again for all the condolences.

@snaotheus gave another great piece of advice that I meant to share - communicate where you are (“Just got to the airport” and “Plane just landed” are very popular with Joy), and call home at night before bed just to let everyone know you’re good. I’ve done that EVERY night of every trip I’ve taken in the 34 years that we’ve been married, sometimes it’s a 30-second conversation, and sometimes it’s 30 minutes, but the piece of mind means a lot.

    Mexican Coffee
    [IMG]
    7.5% Stout by Cape May

Poured from a 12 ounce can, the body is jet black with a small head. No lacing.

Aroma is a delightful mix of coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and hot pepper.

Taste substantially follows nose. Coffee stands out, and the mix reminds me of Stone Xocoveza. I prefer this beer over last year's Stone release: better flavors from coffee and pepper.

Mouthfeel is good with solid carbonation.

Another good beer from Cape May.

    Sierra nevada trail pass golden
    ...light amber appearance
...medium carbonation with q just below average body but overall a nice feel.
...aroma isn't overpowering or complicated, there's cereal, grain, light honey and what I can only describe as wet hops.
...taste has some mild sweetness yet theres enough hop element to balance it out.
...overall its difficult to judge these as I want to compare it to-real-beer.
But it seriously holds it own and is very enjoyable especially compared to most na beer.in its class its definitely one of the best[IMG]

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned 5/03/24. Pours an extremely hazy yellow with a finger sticky white head that leaves a wall of lace, with excellent retention. 4.75

Aroma passionfruit, papaya, peach, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot. 4.75

Taste follows papaya, peach, passionfruit, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot extremely balanced and holy wow beer. 4.75

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8.2% it has massive flavor, but insanely easy going down. 5

Overall for me this beer is absolutely banging, near perfect. I always go in with the highest expectations and this one certainly delivered. 4.75 Cheers all.

Not the style I usually drink, but it is Weihenstephaner, so I decided to give it a try.

The appearance is a bright golden yellow with a fluffy head.

Nose of clothes, spice, and bread — is that Weihenstephaner's influence?

The taste is bready, fruity, and mild, with a Belgian yeast aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is lager-like turning into light wine.

Overall, it's nice and easy (too easy) to drink beer, but it lacks the identity to want to buy it again.
