Let's get this new year started with a new thread, as suggested by @ChicagoJ Here's where we are right now: We seem to have three set annual tastings (Cellaruary (February), Oktoberfest (September/October) and Holiday (December)), but there still seems to be interest in either one off day events (such as Orval Day) and also the traditional weekend long dedicated style(s) tastings. This month, a potential idea would be good to finally host a North Coast Old Rasputin One Day event on January 22nd. @Resistance88 https://northcoastbrewing.com/celeb...-fans-of-old-rasputin-russian-imperial-stout/ Several people (including me) like the idea of an English Bitters / Pub Ale idea proposed by @jonphisher Another idea that I thought about recently. Perhaps we could have a tasting thread that includes only beers posted from a pub, brewery, or tasting room. This could be any style but must be on tap from the source. A kind of shout out to the in-person pours. Just a thought. I was going to include some of the guidelines, but perhaps we throw those out the door this year and look for some new ideas. Others?
Thank you @Beersnake for kicking things off. So many great events last year and the one that I missed as I was not back on Beer Advocate, was Tipopils Day! I would love to connect with @Jack_14 and see how beer is fairing in Italia.
I'm thinking about a Bigfoot tasting thread since the new 2026 vintage was just released. Maybe near the end of January.
I haven't seen any talk about it other than the note about last year's thread, but it's Baltic Porter Day tomorrow, January 17. I'm going to kickoff the thread at midnight BA Time and let it run the weekend. Cc: @beergoot
...I don't mind running it again...it had slipped my mind...I'll dust off my spread sheet to keep track of things...
I'll volunteer to host the Old Rasputin Day (Wednesday, January 21) since it is mentioned to kick off these threads each year. I'll kick off the thread (combined planning and tasting thread) later today. I need to pick up a four pack, which hopefully is a block away based on the online beer finder. The beer is distributed in most states, and also 15 international countries. https://northcoastbrewing.com/distributor-list/ https://northcoastbrewing.com/beers/beer-locator/
Went to two places today and couldn’t find any Baltic Porters — but did pick up a six pack of Bigfoot. What dates are you planning?
The Planning / Tasting Thread has been posted. https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...oast-old-rasputin-day-january-21-2026.682479/ We will run the tasting for the full Beer Advocate Day (0:00 AM BA Time January 21) through Midnight Pacific January 21 when the WBAYDN, NBW/NBS and other threads close for the day/weekend. Hope to see everyone later this week. I also was able to pick up two European Baltic Porters which I intend to enjoy over the next two days.
Very nice Jason! Thank you for hosting. I look forward to tipping back an Old Rassie with you here within the next few days. Cheers Scott
Thank you Scott! I look forward to sharing a beer or two with you as well Scott. We can start here in the states Tuesday evening after the BA clock at the bottom of the page strikes midnight Wednesday, so will try to have one or two over the two days. Wanted to give everyone a few days to grab a few.
This would also coincide nicely with Cellaruary (February) in case people crack open some older Bigfoot!
Really like the idea of an English Bitter tasting day. I have attended Boxing Day at Middle Ages Brewery , Syracuse, NY for their Boxing Day Bitter. Brewed once a year and released on Boxing Day , December 26th.
