In 2013, it became evident that this forum needed a dedicated thread for those asking "I'm visiting Portland, where should I go?" While this thread aims to assist visitors in making the most of their limited time in the city, it's not an exhaustive guide. Opinions on what to include (or exclude) will naturally differ. This thread can also serve as a platform to discuss other excellent Portland beer options not mentioned here.

Some well-regarded Portland breweries & brew pubs you might consider visiting:
    Away Days Brewing
    Baerlic Brewing
    Breakside Brewery
    Brujos Brewing
    Deschutes Portland Public House
    Great Notion Brewing
    Living Häus Beer Company
    Little Beast Brewing
    Ruse Brewing
    Wayfinder Beer

Some highly recommended beer bars & bottle shops:
    The Beermongers
    Belmont Station
    Bridgetown Beerhouse
    Function PDX
    Horse Brass Pub
    Imperial Bottle Shop
    John's Marketplace
    Lombard House
    Loyal Legion
    Roscoe's
    Saraveza

Note: Several of the breweries and beer bars/shops in the lists above have multiple locations.

    (A Few) Beer-centric Restaurants*:
    Bantam Tavern
    Lardo
    Pizza Thief Bandit Bar
    Prost!
    Ranch Southeast (inside Baerlic Brewing)
    Stammtisch
    Tinker Tavern
    Tiny Bubble Room
    Tulip Shop Tavern
    White Owl Social Club

    * It's hard to find restaurants in Portland without at least a couple good beers on the menu, but the ones listed above go above & beyond. This is far from an exhaustive list of restaurants with great beer selections, but it calls out a few of the standouts. Eater PDX is a good food/dining resource.

    ----------------------------------------------------

Need shippers for all the beer you bought?
    Portland Wine Storage
Rose City Wine Vaults & Storage

    Portland Airport
PDX is a great bar that just happens to be an airport. If you have time to kill, there is a Deschutes Brewpub (concourse D), a Hopworks Brewpub (concourse E), a Henry's Tavern outpost (concourse C), and several other restaurants with good tap lists. There are also Made in Oregon stores and a Timberline Lodge gift store past security with decent bottle selections. In addition, Loyal Legion opened a 99 tap bar/restaurant in 2024. However, it is located outside security, so take that into account if you're planning to stop before your flight.

Disclaimer: This post is not intended to be a catch-all for Portland beer establishments. There are literally hundreds of well-regarded beer institutions throughout Portland and the greater Portland area -- many of which are not listed in this post.

RIP Upright. I’m glad I had a chance to visit one last time.

Great list! I'm glad to see Tinker Tavern added, very worthy.

If picking nits, I would add Von Ebert (they re-opened over the last year) and Grand Fir (great food too). Maybe that's too many?

Hopefully all of these are here for the 2027 edition

i reckon this it the spot to visit these days. Tack Shack is my go to. Beer across the street is nice, too.

Whats my best option for malt forward beers besides Away Days? Planning to go there tonight, but want to hit a few other places as well.

Not looking for IPAs, pale lagers, pastry stouts, sours.

Looking for milds, dunkels, Scottish, bitters, barleywines, adjunct free imperial stout, even some good Belgian Abbey ales.

If you don't mind visiting a beer bar rather than a brewery, maybe take a look at the current taplist over at the Horsebrass. They have a number of current offerings that I think meet your criteria parameters. Also take a look at the taplist over at NW Growlers.

i would drop in to foreland for their american stout and barleywine.

and beermongers is rather stout heavy right now.

Not a popular place here, But Stormbreaker seems to have a few choices in your categories. And not far from many other places including Von Eberts place if you feel let down

Array bottle shop closed last weekend. I went there a few times and mostly enjoyed it. Their taplist always seemed to be a little outside of the norm, which was nice. The atmosphere was a little spartan but service was always good & friendly. But it was never busy the times I was there. And the last time I went, there was barely any selection of bottles & cans, which made me wonder if things weren't going well. I wonder if Away Days moving in across the street had an impact. They always seem busy.

Either way. Bummer to lose another local beer spot.

Our lil family goes to Away Days a lot. Array was unfortunately 21+. If we had the opportunity ditch the kid, Beermongers is a short distance away. Sad to see one go, but I miss Apex more. So let's talk more about Apex.

Hahaha. Yeah, we could definitely use more Apex talk around here.

for all its faults and quirks, I definitely miss Apex.

did they ever do an inventory sale ? were they somewhat trying to find a new location ?

An inventory sale would have made sense, but I have no idea. Jessie posted on Instagram that he was hopeful they could find a new home, but that was some time ago. I assume nothing panned out.

Kind of a random thought, but does Beaumont Market still have a good beer selection? It's been years since I've been there, but they used to be a hidden gem back in the mid-teens. Not sure if it's still that way or if they've dialed it back with beer's drop in popularity.

The last time I was there - last summer, I think? - it was still very solid. Not quite as many great finds as the old days, but still an excellent variety with lots of BA beers.

Was it because every time someone recommended them, the listener thought they were being instructed to go to Belmont Station?

nah they just had a really dialed-in beer guy, justin, who was given a lot of support by locals. iirc it was his family's store so he was not just a beer guy but was running the whole show...

I’ll be in Portland the night of the 19th on my way through picking up competition entries. By coincidence, that’s my birthday so am looking to have a beer or two.

I’m woefully behind on visits to the finer beer establishments, so just about anywhere will be new to me. Any recommendations or special events for that night?
