Happy Sunday all! Boy is this NCAA tourney something?? Can't say I've done which the past four days besides watch great basketball, mourn all the red lines on my bracket, and drink some pretty solid craft beers. The weather has been great, though the wind just picked up as I got home so I decided a stout was in order. The beer of choice is Butternuts Moo Thunder. Not going to blow you away by any means, but a decent sessionable stout with some sweet flavors. And the can is awesome. My full thoughts are here:

NEW! Porter taste off: WORLD CLASS, NEW Carton GORP 4.7! (Good Old Raisins & Peanuts trail mix) and 1 ALSO RAN Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, 3.5, that I have come to enjoy as a blend with an ale.

Carton GORP (Good Old Raisins & Peanuts trail mix)
    4.7/5
    rDev +19%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.75
Gotta rate this one highly for originality and execution. This is the direction Carton goes where no one else is going. In this case it really works.

A: Nearly perfect porter look, with rings of lace, body, and staying power.

S: The chocolate, raisins, and peanuts rise off the beer in subtle charred format.

T: The taste astounds for being completely original, true to trail mix, and yet a real solid charred, roasty porter without being cloying... finishes dry and long. A great flavor ride.

MF: Excels in body, tingle, finish.

You must try this beer, it's now my favorite porter, which says alot. Compares well with Chocolate Stout and RIS.

    Breckenridge Vanilla Porter
One of a kind - yes. At first I found this un-remarkable, but in 2 more tries, I like it better.
It makes a great blend with a hoppy session beer like Boat Beer, improves both.
MY recommendation with this beer is to blend it.

EXCEPT for a dessert beer, or as part of a sweet series, I'd skip this one.

A - Pours a deep dark brown, with plenty of amber highlights. Decent head, tight, returns with a swirl and laces moderatly. Seems slightly thin.

S - When I got a fresh bottle I found the aroma satisfying and complex:

Nuts, sour malt, chocolate and of course vanilla, and a bit of bakery. (but do I want this much vanilla in my beer)?

T - The flavor answers the question: No, I dont want this much vanilla in my beer. Definitely let this warm and drink it like an after-dinner drink.

Follows the smell... flavors of coffee and roasted nuts upfront giving way to cola/caramel/vanilla sweetness with caramel and toffee. Surprisingly not cloying, but still too sweet and too vanilla for me.

M - Starts creamy but end too thin and sweet. Neat tingle and long finish. Grows on you.

D - "for someone with a sweet tooth." I'd not have more than one. I'd save for dessert only.

This brew does get better as it warms, serve at cellar (porter) temperature.

I'm a fan of craft beer...obviously, cuz I'm on BA. But 'tis a sad weekend for Aaron Craft fans. OSU is out of the March Madness. And sadly Aaron Craft, leader and point guard extaordinaire, sadly left in the first round (I know it's now called the second round, but that's BS), in a sad ending for such a great student athlete. Not sure what I'm going to drink yet, but I shall toast Aaron

    Cheers All

New American Triple IPA Sunday (week 474)
Greetings NBS'ers, a chilly day in a chilly winter now turned to chilly spring here on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Shout out to the folks, my neighbors, who are absolutely destroying it, recycling their blessed hearts out, making this old hippie happy and proud to see how many tons of renewable materials our town keeps out of landfills, and sends back to manufacturers.

The new beer I am drinking today is a triple IPA, and right away this made up and meaningless term pointed to trouble.

It's a good beer, not a great beer, but one that is made for the serious hop crazies among us. Thought I was one, but this beer isn't my hero.

Hope you have a Great American Beer in your hand. Cheers!

    Greetings NBS'ers,
glad to be back again and try something new for sunday. Temps roller-coastering through the week but settling down into the low 30's again so i thought i would try another extra i received from a fellow BA'er. Might not get to many more nights to enjoy a winter warmer, I hope.

From the minute I popped the cap the beer started to cascade in the bottle. Easy pour with a nice two finger head that leaves some lacing as it subsides, very nice copper coloring Aromas of toffee, raw sugar, some spice and earthy yeast esthers. Decent carbonation, toasted malt, toffee, allspice with a dry woodsy finish. Medium body with a resinous aftertaste. Interesting take on a scotch ale and definately a nice beverage on a cold night.

    Cheers and Good Health Everyone

    Howdy NBSers!

So this week, I went to seek out my new beers at a pub in me neck of the woods. Now this turned out to be a fantastic idea for me! I will say that there was no proper glassware used other than a snifter for the first bad boy. I figured you cats that fall sucker to the placebo affect would like to be aware of such things. Well, without further ado, here's the new brews:

Ale Syndicate/Three Floyds Rats in the Ashes:
Aromas of dark chocolate and licorice dominate the raisin and brown sugar in the background. Taste is very sweet and roasty. There is an aftertaste of licorice that lingers for quite a while, and the mouthfeel is very thick with a low amount of carbonation.

    Ommegang Adoration Ale:
Aromas of clove and banana bread dominate the nose. On the tongue though, the bready yeast took over, yet the spices make their presence felt. This bad boy was medium bodied, and the aftertaste of cloves lingered for a while.

These next two were thanks to Tom. I don't know if you're on BeerAdvocate, but if you are, I thank you again for these brews!

    Firestone Walker Sucaba:
Aromas were of vanilla, toffee and caramel. The taste was similar to the nose, but much more intense (maybe glassware was an issue?). Very sweet and bold, and the vanilla and caramel aftertaste was bold and lingering. This beer drank like syrup.

    Boulevard/Sierra Nevada Terra Incognita:
Aromas were very tart and champagne like (can't be more specific, I was a tad bit buzzed). Taste was very tart and sweet, and there was an aftertaste of tart cherries and pear that was short lived. For 8.5%, it was an easy drinking beer.

I enjoyed all of them, but the first and third ones stood out to me as fantastic brews. Forgive me for the sub par reviews, but I am a tad bit buzzed. Not only did I drink these, but I followed them up with a few bloody marys. I know, I know, I'm not a saint after all.

Oh well, lets listen to some music!

    Have a great week everyone!
    Cheers!

Kudo's Jane, Cary Grant is classic. Arsenic and Old Lace is definately in my top 25 all time. Mr Blandings builds his Dream House, Bringing up baby with Kat Hepburn, Topper and many more.

    New (Again) Ohio Beer Sunday
Greeting NBSers, from Broken Bracket, California. Weather was beautiful today. Bright sun with some clouds, cool by our standards, in the 60's. Yeah, I know, I know, some Cali folks actually complain about that being "cold."

Anyways, in honor of Aaron Craft and Ohio State being bounced from the tourney a bit earlier than I (and my bracket) had hoped, I'm toasting this great young man's college career, on and off the court, with BORIS from Hoppin Frog of OHIO. So creamy smooth, rich, slightly roasty malt with just a slight hint of an oily finish.
To be honest, I've had it before, but it's been quite a while. Just thought it was a appropriate choice to pull from the cellar. It was even better than I remembered...went from a 4 to a 4.25.

    Cheers All (Especially Aaron Craft)

Glad to see this thread still open... long day for me but was able to finally finish my growler of Kenai River's Gummi Bear Tripel, they supposedly put actual "gummi bears" in the tripel, but honestly to me, I never got them. Sorry, Kenai River, please don't take the wrong way if you're reading this.

Long day, I had to go to work for the day and was able to give some likes to some WBAYDN-ers when I could. Just glad today is done.

Though I was stuck inside at a desk, I'm glad to start to see the snow starting to melt a bit and the sun to come up more. Funny, how much I like the snow and winter but I tend to be a seasonal sort of guy and am looking forward to dipping my fishing line in the water for the King Salmon next month.

    New Tripel for me.

Sorry for not having a picture today, I'm just glad to participate in NBS as I'm really starting to like this thread more and more every day, could be because I'm slowly down a bit these days with reviewing. Sorry, if I sound old, I know I'm only 37 years old, but yeah, don't take it the wrong way BA, just cherishing what I have in front of me (life, family and fishing).

If I'm able to make it next Sunday, I'll try to have a picture. G'night BA-ers!
