Anyone else ever have a beer that you loved, but for some reason could never find again? At a bar once I had a terrific cherry wheat, super balanced and rich, but couldn't remember the name, and the bar was too far away to return and ask the bartender (I suppose I could have called... but it's too late now, he probably forgot his seasonals). I picked up quite a few cherry wheats since then, but none of them fit the glass slipper of my memory. Let's hear about your lost loves.

I had an absolutely incredible stout at Alchemy Cafe in Madison one night while watching my friends band play. Got pretty drunk that night, and couldn't remember what it was called. I'm assuming it was a Wisconsin brew, just not sure exactly which brewery. Think it was an oatmeal stout as well

Hmm . . . Since your in Illinois it's possible that you had a Hinterland Cherry Wheat. Hinterland is a Wisconsin Brewery I believe so it's possible that was the one.

Hey, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is a decent brew man ! Why do people always have to go out of their way to hate ?

Why do you have to assume he was saying it was a bad beer. He may have just been saying that it's easy to find.

Yup, I once had on tap Coronado Hoppy Lager and loved it. Had it once, never saw it again and I think they never brewed it again and it's not even listed on BA.

Summer residency during my on-line grad program. Started at State Street Brats and landed at Mad Hatter. No real recollection what went in between (I do know I did NOT have a Fish Bowl...). Brats and New Glarus buckets at State Street, and being in the summer no mob. Drank more beer that night than I would do in a couple months (I'm not big on volume). Whatever we were drinking at Mad Hatter was tremendous (or maybe by that time we just thought so), but FIVE of us have no recollection of what it was...we think it was from Ale Asylum but that is as close as we can get to this day.

Madison and UW campus are one among my favorite places to visit.

Your label said "cherry wheat". I was sitting at the end of the bar, tapping out a rhythm on the bartop with my fingers. We hung out for awhile--I took a few sips and swirled you around in my mouth. I'd really love to taste you again sometime. Hoping the feeling is mutual. Call if interested.

THAT'S how you write a missed connection. :grinning:

Regarding all the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat comments: no, it was not (that's the first one I tried afterwards), and he probably did mean that its distribution is huge so I'd have to be an idiot to not find it (although I also didn't like it much).

I had a beer at a bar called Murphy's Law in Ulm, Germany back in 2008 I think. I remembered the guy telling me it was brewed by monks, and it was of a lighter color, and I cannot remember the name, and likely never will. On a side note, the bar is basically an underground bunker, and was awesome.

Nothing good ever happens at a bar called Murphy's Law. What did you expect?

Had a beer in Bangor, Wales that I really enjoyed. It was just a really unique porter. I couldn't remember what it was several months after I came back, called the bar and they said it was most likely one of their rotating taps, and couldn't tell me.

I lived in Michigan for two years. One of my friends from college works at Bell's, so I had a smattering of their stuff. But I was on a wine kick, and I can distinctly remember walking past a bunch of Founders Breakfast Stouts for a bottle of Nebbiolo. Clearly, I am too stupid to live. Can anyone beat that?
