So my buddies and I get together every Monday for a bottle share and usually the quality (and scarcity in our area) is pretty high. We got the crazy idea last week that we should do a crappy beer bottle share.

Now I'm not talking about BMC and light beers, but what craft beers would you consider crappy, bad, or just straight up revolting?

So far we have Belgo Anise RIS and are looking for a Bully Gully. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

Obviously what's crappy to one is delicious to another (for example, I really liked the sample of Belgo Anise I had at a beer fest), so I fully expect that my suggestion here will draw some raised eyebrows. Nevertheless, I thought this beer was rubbish: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/697/7728/ I think it is somewhat widely distributed, so you may be able to grab it. Although, I believe the sticker price around here was like $6 for a bottle.

This time of year, Shipyard's Pumpkinhead. Other than that, I'd go for anything totally off the wall that you spot. Voodoo Doughnut, that one pizza beer, any chili beer, Wells Banana Bread, etc.

I'm not necessarily saying those beers are crappy (I have yet to try Voodoo or the pizza beer, and I've had some beers that incorporate chili peppers very well) but because of the strong and particular flavors they have, someone in your group is likely to spit some out in disgust.

EDIT: Apparently I'm not the fastest at typing, since just about everything I mentioned was posted between the time I read the thread and clicked reply. Oh well :slight_frown:

Why not throw in Twisted Pines Ghost Face Killa...a for sure way to ruin a palette.

Don't worry so much about that. Consider it part of the experience. You will never know the fun you can have joking on a crappy beer. Also it's a good way to learn off flavors, loose construction and imbalance in flavors. There's no reason to avoid any beer until after you have tried it. (anything buffalo bills or indian wells-FIE!).

Mamma Mia Pizza Beer was fun to try, but I didn't have more than a few sips. A few friends of mine thought it wasn't bad it all but they aren't craft beer drinkers. The last thing on Earth I would want with good pizza...is pizza ingredients in a watery like beer.

Personally, I think DuClaw's Sweet Baby Jesus (chocolate peanut butter porter) was one of the most awful beers I've ever had and I love peanute butter. I know there's a fair number of people who like it, but I don't think those people know want peanuts should taste like. My review, FWIW: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1924/88269/?ba=Ranbot

I will never drink any of Yard's Tavern Spruce again either. Historically the beer is interesting, because it's inspired by colonial brewing when hops were scarce and they would sometimes use spruce instead. Let's just say I'm glad I don't live in 1700's America. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/450/26892/
