So, Max's Taphouse has a Gravity Keg of Monsambacher Lagerbier for German Fest this weekend. It doesn't show up on here and Google gives out 7 search results (2 go to a 404 page, 3 go to a message board that says they tried a Monsambacher bock, and the last 2 go to a blog that mentions a Monsambacher Lager on tap).

So, I was just wondering if anyone here has heard of this brewery and if so, could they add it to BA. Maybe it is a wrong name or something, but 7 Google results is pretty ridiculous in any case.

This one perhaps? It's one I wish I had tried before I left Germany but could never find it.

THANK YOU! I love Max's, but they usually have quite a few misspellings and are very sparse on what the exact beer is, when it comes to the pre-release lists. Sounds quite good, and I love me some gravity kegs. Looks like one to try for sure.

Sergeant Stogie (I can't get his name to come up to tag him?) is a big fan of this beer if memory serves. Hopefully he'll chime in. Pretty sure @herrburgess has good things to say about it as well? Get yourself over to Max's!

Where do you see this information, by the way? I was looking at their website and their FB page and didn't see anything specific as to what they're serving.

Yeah, I even called them last night about when they would post it. They usually don't wait this long, but they sent out an e-mail earlier today though.

I started a thread over in Mid-Atlantic with the tap-list. Feel free to copy the tap-list and bold some ones you think I or the people attending should try. You can either post it in that thread or just PM me. I would love to get some German insight. Max's also holds a Belgian Beer Fest (their craziest and longest running one) and an Italian Fest (the least popular, not to say that I don't love it; but it is going to be replaced with probably a Nordic Fest). I'm gonna have to ask the respective countries about the festival tap lists from now on.

p.s. Yes, I bought some Stone Berlin Collaborations.
p.p.s. @sergeantstogie (that should help, since your friend couldn't tag you)

If that's their Kellerbier it's amazing. One of the best I've had. You're extremely lucky to get it in the US.

    Andechs Dopplebock (YR, 96)

    Einbecker Winterbock Dopplebock
    Schneider Aventinus Eisbock Barrique (bottle)
Aecht Schlenkerla Dopplebock Oak Smoked (bottle)
Schneider Aventinus Cuvee Barrique (brought bottle)

Loved by all: Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen

I was so happy to be able to have the Eisbock Barrique to go with my Cuvee Barrique (totally different beasts though). The berliners were out of this world good (no buckwheat version). Loved the Smoked Dopplebock and their Zymatore (BA). The 78-rated Schofferhofer Grapefruit Weizen-Mix was out of this world. Maybe because it was quite the change of pace or just the sheer drinkability of it, but I know many people that got a Liter stein of it each day. We had a pretty great bottleshare at a friend's place afterwards on Sunday, which was a nice end piece to the whole thing.

Nice work, that's quite the list! Hopefully I'll be able to do that fest one year, it seems like a good one.

This seems to be all the rage together with Stiegl Grapefruit. Just saw that Stiegl stopped selling the lemon Radler but the Grapefruit has been out of stock at times.

    Interesting times.

I bought the first and only six pack of Steigl Radler I ever saw, to bring to a party. I'd never had it but heard it was great. Loved it and had no worries of getting inebriated. Great stuff but with a bit of a different flavor profile from the Schofferhoffer.

That's quite the list, and ,wow, quite a few beers to try in a single night.
Why do you suppose that is? Quality? Price? I'd love to hear an American perspective.

Sorry, @gillagorilla, but that's considered Frauenbier, women's beer, here. It's simply juice mixed with really bad Weizen. In Germany, a man wouldn't want to risk being seen drinking the stuff, lest they have to give up their Man Card. Have you tried a coke-beer mix? That was popular with the chicks when I was in uni. here, which goes by many names in Germany, depending on which region you're in.

I'm sure it tasted good and it was "refreshing," but why pay extra money to have them mix it when you can buy a Bud and juice bottle and mix it yourself. It'd be much fresher. I teach a woman who works as the assistant to 3 execs at Radeburger Gruppe here in FfM, and she said the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Weizen-Mix was the only one of theirs that they import to America. Their full line up, which you can find here, sounds tempting.

How about the new lemon or new pomegranate-guarana mixed drinks?

    Or the Pear-Ginger mix?

And finally, the cactus pear mix.

How is this any different from a wine spritzer? My, Americans fell for them back in the day, and now they're falling these Gemischtgetränke, or mixed drinks, have which 2.5% ABV? You can drink 2 of these to equal a normal bottle of beer, which isn't bad if you have to drive afterwards.

The rest of the beer list is more impressive than I'm able to find EVER in a German bar.

One of the biggest hits this past summer in the "craft" beer-crazed city of Charleston was Stiegl Grapefruit Radler. http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140710/PC0301/140719971

What can you say? American "craft" beer folks love grapefruit flavor....

As for me, give me a Seidla (or a Mass if you must) of Moenchsambacher Kellerbier -- and keep them coming -- and I'll be a happy man.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: the hypocrisy of Biermischgetränke and Reinheitsgebot are appalling. The Germans quickly defend, saying the beer was at least brewed without adjuncts before adding guarana & cactus juice. Great comedy.

I've said it before, too...it's quite ironic that U.S. "craft beer" frequently owes more of its popularity to the flavors brewers add to the beer than those they manage to coax out of its core ingredients by means of their craft.

That list were the beers that I had over the weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun).

I go in for all of the festivals and actually quite enjoyed the Italian Fest (I believe I missed it in 2013). Apparently, it began in 2010. Here is the tap list for 2014. They make very interesting beers and have some unique sours. This might sound like an insult, but their fest is like a giant DFH takeover. They really utilize the local landscape with lots of great herbs and spices. I think it has more to do with people not knowing any of the Italian breweries and not really associating beer with Italy at all. Quality is top-notch and price is negligible since festival prices are usually lower than daily prices.

The Nordic festival stands to basically be a Mikkeller (and Evil Twin?) festival, with some Nogne O, To Ol and others. I'm definitely excited by this since I love Mikkeller's beers.

Most of the festivals don't hold a candle to the Belgian Beer Fest, which celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year. It has the most attendance, and the most tapped beers.

Germanfest is a standout in that it has 10 oz. pours for the standard price of $3.50, which is possible because of the low ABV of said beers. I would love to do a blind tasting during Germanfest to just pick out the different styles (I don't know German beers well enough to pick out beers within the same style).
