Question for all the fellow members here. Can you recommend any sour stouts that might not be too hard to get. Ive had funk metal (loved), tart of darkness (loved), Tartside of the moon (liked) and zwet be (ok). So I like the style and am guessing its just not a popular one but wanted to see if there were more out there. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Atramentous out of Three Brothers is a great one.. only problem is the availability. I can always get some for you if needed!

Not necessarily a sour stout...but a crazy "funky/sour" barrel aged dark beer that I absolutely love is Schmaltz Funky Jewbelation (any year). It's categorized as a good ol' American Strong Ale.

Edit: Was going to say Tart of Darkness, but I didn't read the OP thoroughly. Pick Jewbelation 14 up!

Wicked Weed black angel is really good. Not sure how hard it is to get outside of NC.

Black Angel from Wicked Weed is a sour black ale (stout?), Dark Arts is also from Wicked Weed and releases soon, OEC does some interesting stout-like beers, and I will second Madrugada Obscura, Tart of Darkness, and Funk Metal.

Ok so I've already made a fool of myself on this thread but if you liked Funk Metal you might want to try Ol' Oi' from Jester King. I had it when I was there in late August and while its not a sour stout it's kinda in line with their funk beers as I would refer to them being that it's a sour Brown Ale.

I know it's a Porter, but the Bourbon Sour Porter from Alamanac is quite tasty.

I was going to say Harveys Imperial Extra Double Stout, but this might not be sour enough to be in the league of what the OP is looking for. It certainly does have a tart edge, subtle but delicious, and an element of funkiness. A very complex beer and really not your typical RIS in certain ways.

If you really get into it, anchorage darkest hour is also very good but you'll have to trade.
