I just got a 2010 BCBCS in a trade. The bottle looked a little fuller to the top than most bottle fills and the cap on it is plain black. Can anybody verify or post a picture of an unopened bottle and what the cap looks like? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure 2010 coffee had a plain black cap

I hope so. I was looking at my 2008 bcbs bottle and there is a goose island cap on those and the 2011 and 2012 coffee all have Bourbon County caps. The plain black was kind of a red flag. Thanks for the info.

    paranoid much?

Are people actually doing this? If so, what has the world come to? I don't want to live in a world where people refill and cap previously empty bottles with counterfeit beer just to obtain some other beer in a trade.

Now that this is cleared up, I unfortunately have some other bad news for you, OP: that beer is over three years past it's prime.

Yeah, it wasn't a big trade. Just a 4pk of this year's bcbs. So not too big a deal. Kinda just wanted it to complete my bottle set.

I don't know I like BCBCS with some age on it much better then I like it fresh. Furthest out I've had it was about 2 years and it was fantastic.

Jesus Christ, I had to go back to my cellar for the THIRD time to doublecheck my KH cap! AHHHHHHHH.............this is the reality we face today, unfortunately.

I had 2010 within a few months of bottling and it was one of the best beers I've ever had (this is still the case 4 years and countless beers later), but we opened one in summer 2012 and it was a shadow of its former self. Still good, but really most of the coffee flavor was gone and some of the other flavors had muddled. I've also seen the same thing happen with KBS and others. I'm done aging coffee beers for good. I don't see the point since the coffee is what fades the most.

Ugh, I would be happy if I traded for a 2010 BCBCS and found out it was Founders Imperial Stout inside the bottle.

Personal preference I guess. I actually consistently prefer aged coffee beers over fresh coffee beers. BCBCS, WnB, FBS; had them all at 2 years, including side by sides with fresh bottles for WnB and FBS, and I preferred the aged ones across the board. I like when the coffee fades a bit, it allows some of the other components to shine. To each their own.

I will say KBS is the exception for me, because I think the barrel notes faded off with the aged KBS.

On the BCBS bombers 2010 (& 2011, I think) had plain black caps.

i don't think BCBS bottles had special bourbon county caps until 2012, but i could be wrong. my 2012 coffee and 2012 regular all have bourbon county caps and my 2011 bcbs has plain black.
