Looks and sounds killer. Reminded me I still have a bottle of Moveable Type I need to drink- which was a fantastic brew

I had a fading light and a moveable type in the cellar, both got consumed at a rather raucous bonfire a while back, was not impressed in the morning, but oh well, Im liking the newer stuff from their barrels better than those anyway.

Alright, time for my last NBS beer for this week. It's been quite a great day... I went out for a late breakfast with my younger sister (who's experiencing a lot of anxiety as she's about to transfer to a state school from a community college in a couple months), bought some beer and new music, came back home, made some dinner, listened to some tunes and drank some great new beer!

Here's a gratuitous picture of my dinner... ranchero-marinated charcoal-grilled wings and beer brats with breadcrumb mac-n-cheese. My roommate and I can do awesome things when we want to :sunglasses:

Not usually a huge fan of Sundays as they usually just foreshadow an upcoming week of work, but today was a good one. I'll close tonight out with a new dry-hopped gose by Grimm!

This is Grimm's Super Shine... a dry-hopped, oak-conditioned gose. I assume it's in the same realm as Super Going and Super Symmetry, cuz the art is kind of similar but much more minimalistic. Some research indicates that this was dry-hopped with Azacca and Mosaic.

Pours a healthy-looking pallid yellow-ish color with a pretty retentive meringue-like head of white foam. Each small pour builds the head up once again with a little bit of volume. Lacing is pretty nice honestly. In general, I've had great experiences with Grimm's kettle-soured, dry-hopped works, so I expect very little to be different here.

Nose is yogurt-forward with lemon, guava, passionfruit and salty/mineral-ish notes. Yep, it's a Grimm gose! This feels very similar to a lot of their other dry-hopped quick-sour beers in the nose. I love it, but it's nothing new in all honesty. The balance they pull off is excellent, though... the slight, stiff tannins from the oak conditioning do help bring things to the next level. Some bright pineapple and passionfruit here as well.

Flavor is like biting into a ripe mango with some mineral/salinity... the finish is especially salty and refreshing. Some pineapple and guava here as well. Playful carbonation that never feels overly prickly. Feel is a bit heavier than some other stuff in the same style coming from America. However, I think Grimm has perfectly nailed the wheat-heavy, rounded American-style gose profile. Their stuff is a bit softer than similar fruited goses from, let's say, Anderson Valley but they are kinda neck-and-neck in the game. They're more expensive by far, though, giving AV the edge in terms of how much I look to re-buy, but Grimm puts beer out at a higher rate with different experimental elements.

Listening to one of my absolute favorite heavy stoner rock/metal albums ever, Dozer's Through The Eyes Of Heathens. Goddamn what an album. Every song is a huge hit to these ears... super consistent and with some absolutely crazy highlights ("Born A Legend," "Until Man Exists No More" and "Big Sky Theory" are my three favs but this whole album destroys!).

Brother in law just went up to VT and came back with some much appreciated goodies. Waited to crack this until halftime so that I did not fall asleep in the second quarter of the Finals. Thursday I had a couple beers before the game and crashed in the second quarter.

Alchemist is definitely my favorite NEIPA style producer. Even though I have only had Heady, Focal, and Crusher There beers are the perfect amount of hoppiness and do not become overly tropical. Great initial sweetness with a nice bitter finish. Perfect mouthfeel and I appreciate the hazy but not turbid appearance.

    On to this beer:
Ouroboros, picked up at the brewery yesterday.
Appearance: Light yellowish orange, very clear, nice lacing and long lasting head 5
Smell: Piney, dank hops, light tropical hoppiness 4.5
Taste: Starts with a slight tropical/citrus hop flavor, then finishes with a strong piney, resiny bitterness. 4.5
Feel: Resiny coating during the entire beer, smooth full mouthfeel 5
Overall: Another incredible hoppy beer by the alchemist. Intense, complex, and drinkable all at the same time. 4.5

Enjoy the rest of the night everyone. Some great posts tonight. I enjoyed reading them. Hopefully see you all next week.

The 2017 version of this beer just hit the stores, so I figured I should drink the 2016 I bought. Decent beer.

    Mother's Brewing
    Rated R
    Coffee, chocolate, vanilla imperial stout

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle dated 5/10/16. The beer pours a deep black with a tall, thick, tan head with tally nice retention and thick lacing.

The smell is lots of dark roasted malts, chocolate, and a very small amount of coffee.

The taste follows with roasted malts and chocolate up front. There is a nice, sweet vanilla flavor on the finish. The coffee is still there after a year, but it's not strong.

The mouthfeel is slightly thinner than expected from the thick head, but it's still pretty thick with minimal carbonation. It's very smooth.

Overall this is a nice imperial stout with tons of dark roast malt flavor.

Greetings NBSers. Found some time watching the Finals to post up my 2nd NBS contribution. Unfortunately the game is more interesting than my contribution.

Beer is both new to me and to BA. Shanty Shack is the establishment and the beer is their Huck-tail-Flat IPA. Comes gifted as a crowler from a friend that was mountain biking in Santa Cruz over the Memorial Day weekend.

Love the beer visually, but it's far too grassy for my palate. The grassiness almost takes on a cilantro metallic aspect on some sips. Thinner bodied for the 7+% ABV, and very easy drinking. Definitely a unique approach, but one that doesn't mesh with my normal enjoyed profile. Full review here.

    4.5 / 3.5 / 3 / 3.25 / 3.5 BA Rating = 3.31

My first Mars, the Bringer of War.
Reddish orange pour with ample white head. Good retention and lacing.
Candied fruit on the nose. Malt accents predominate but there is a good hop presence in the finish.
A little bit of a syrupy mouth feel, but that is too be expected in a beer like this. I will get this again.

Couldn't get picture to upload for some reason. if you want to see it, it's on my untapped account under same name.

First ever Aislin beer from @crow121 and it was a great first impression.

Cortes & His Men poured a light hazy color with a white head. It's a very smooth beer with just a touch of pineapple/grapefruit in the taste. The taste comes out a little more as it warms, as my first sip was straight out of the fridge and it wasn't as noticeable.

Yea, I know it's late.. but I'm off tomorrow...so WHY NOT!!

What a fantastic beer. This is 100% as advertised. If you've ever had a Thin Mint, and thought it was tasty, you have to try this stout.

Pours thick, with a smidgen of head, which disappears quickly.

Lacing and Thick Mint will never show up in the same sentence (unless this very point is being made).

Smells exactly like a Thin Mint. Tastes sweet, just like a Thin Mint, with a nice dose of alcohol infusion. Very smooth, and the flavor is consistent from front to back.

In a sitting, I can usually handle 2 beers with a lot of sweetness .. but tonight, I'm mad that I only bought 1 bottle. Overall, this is one helluva beer.

Probably the best mouthfeel I have had. This beer is truly amazing. All the flavors melt together. Possibly the best beer I have had.

What a great idea reviewing these two side by side!!
I am excited to know that Tangent was that well regarded by you. I do hope that Foundation's barrel programs gets the steam and credit it deserves.
    Cheers!

Always thankful when my stepdaughter comes up to visit from Tampa, great seeing her and she typically brings me some Tampa goodies when she comes. This time she asked if there were any specific beers/breweries I wanted to try, looking at maps I realized she's fairly close to Angry Chair so I sent her there for a couple of crowlers(my first crowler and I must say I finally found a can in my size).
She brought Space Grass and The Rake but unfortunately they mislabeled them both as The Rake so I can't really review them other than as AC1 and AC2, sounds like a good reason to visit the brewery next month when we make the trip down there.

I really wish I could give these a proper NBS review as far as which beer was which rather than comparing the two but since they were mislabeled I can't. I will say I feel if one is a fan of the juicy, hazy IPAs both of these beers would be great.
Both crowlers were fresh, filled 5/31.
AC1 (really think this was SpaceGrass) pours yellow orange, hazy with two fingers of white head that settles quickly. AC2 poured slightly darker and hazy with much less head.
Smell was very similar between the two, some berry and tropical smelling hops with a bit of citrus in AC2.
Taste was definitely different between the two. AC1 was a juicy, tropical flavor. I got mango, sweet pineapple, some berry hints. Finished clean but not bitter.
AC2 had the tropical aspect with a bit of bitter citrus that really seemed to give some balance.
Both beers had IMO great carbonation levels. AC1 finished a little sweet (not overly so just not bitter), AC2 finished dryer with some bitterness.
Overall I really enjoyed both of these beers and apologize for not being able to definitively name them. Pretty sure AC1 was SpaceGrass and AC2 was The Rake, both were great and worthy to try.

Well Good Evening Late Night NBS!
A slight cheat tonight. I've had a few of these in the last few weeks, but I finally sat down to pop my last one, and share my humble thoughts with you, the esteemed assembly, the NBS crew.
Life is super busy right now, winding down the school year, closing up the classroom, participating in various summer committees, long range planning, and volunteering at a summer art and music camp at my school. So, for those of you that think, incorrectly, that teachers get 3 months off...I have some stories to tell. We do have some good time off, but it's nowhere near what I hear in conversations with well-intentioned, ill-informed, and sometimes just plain willingly ignorant folk (sorry, but many of them reference something they've heard on Fox News). Sorry, sorry, I don't mean to paint with a broad brush, but...this HAS been said to me.

Anywhoo, Fashionably Late by the Bruery folks who are now AKA as Offshoot Brewing.

Somewhat hazy straw to peach in color. Fluffy white head pushes 2 inches before a slow retreat to a clingy, moderate lace-leaving half-inch pillowy head.
Smells like a tropical fruit salad with some orange zest. I'm getting hints of mango, pineapple, and I don't know, but it's tropical.
Taste is definitely a melange of citrus and tropical. Citrus is orange and floral tangerine. Citrus is mango, pineapple, and guava. Hints toward a grapefruit pithiness at the end, but then backs slowly away.
Mouthfeel is full enough, carbonated well, and slightly creamy.
Overall, this is a very good beer. Not as "juicy" as advertised, but totally respectable.

I'm not really that fond of the mint+chocolate combination so I probably wouldn't be the biggest fan of this one... but "Thick Mint" is pretty much the perfect name for a chocolate mint imperial stout. There is no better joke/reference/pun name possible for a beer like that.

And now I almost want to see if I can find one just to see if I like that flavor combination more in beer than I do in food...

Well folks, Sunday has wandered from the realm of the new into the dominion of the old. As such, we must close this week's thread and look forward to the next, as the cycle flows from old to new to old again. Hopefully next week as Sunday is reborn, a beer that is unknown to your palate will flow across it and you'll share the experience with us. Until then, cheers to all of you!
