Really glad @FlintB is sharing the Speciation love. I have not had the access or capacity to trade it outside of my own review regimen. They are one of the best wild ale breweries in the country.

Glad yo liked it. I think it's pretty good. Not a big, bold hop profile, but good.

Well - not quite all of that is going to my NBS target.

Certainly looking forward to what you're sending, sir - thank you!

I was without a dog for a little more than three years after my guy Sammy passed. That is Sammy in my profile pic. After much cajoling and manipulation by my daughter, this May we went to North Shore Animal League and brought home a new family member.
Sorry, I don't have a picture of my little guy with beer. He is curled up with my daughter and I am not waking them up just to take a beer pic.

Onto the beer. So Kane released a West Coast IPA this weekend called Open Water. I love it and I am currently on my third in a row.

    Here is my review:
    Open Water

    Kane Brewing Company
    American IPA / 7.50% ABV

    4.44/5 rDev 0% | Score: 4.21
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured from a sixteen ounce can that was released yesterday.
A: Alightly hazy with a solid finger of white fluffy head. Tons of lacing.
N: Papaya, lime, tangerine up front. Danky weed aroma
T: There is a level of rindy bitterness. The taste is citrusy up front. There are some sweeter fruits in the background and a resiny dankness.
MF: A full mouth feel but dry . This beer is 7.5% and you can tell it is there. Beuth the alcohol is an element and doesn't overtake the palate
O: This is a homerun for me. An old school/West Coat style with new school hops. It is resiny and slightly bitter. Another example of how strong Kane's IPA game is.

I appreciate a challenge, and that you do as well.

After crushing @FlintB , I'll be happy to add you to my list!

Also: we should all figure out a meet-up location after the dust has settled. There are going to be some beers in flight that should be shared.

    Hello Late Nigh NBS.
Well I finally hit up this beauty from @Buck89

Embrace The Funk - Passionnè De Pêche by Yahoo Brewing

Poured into my Yazoo tulip (also courtesy of Mr. Buck89).
A radiant, effervescent swirl of peach tinged gold swirls in my glass. Turbid and somewhat opaque. But beautiful and bright. The fizz announces the rushing rise of sparkling foam. Yes, I can hear it. It rises assertively, then all of the bubbles explode as they near the rim of the glass. Like fireworks, bright & beautiful, then gone in a flash. Within about 30 seconds there is zero evidence that this drink ever had a head. A few small floaties sink to the bottom. Zero lacing.
Smell came forth strong. Peach, vinegar, dry white wine, hints of wet hay, and a wet oak note.
Taste is sour and fruity. Sour grabs your attention, but not by the collar. Coating the tongue, and working back to the throat, it give you that pucker and click. The click of the tongue against the sides of your gums and epiglottis. Then as I bring a little air in, the flavor taps the brakes just a tad on the sour, and allows the peach notes to shine. Sill sour, but a more fruity sour. Peach with a hint of lemon. God, I love peach.
No carbonation is visible, but it still feels like there is some. A slightly slick finish that hangs on for a good long time.
Overall, this one is bold. Not for somebody who just dabbles with sours. But i find so many great things going on here, that I'd hit this repeatedly if I could.

I would definitely be down for that. To bad this spans the entire us coast to coast. The second i caught wind that you were going after Flint you went to the top of my list. But ii was cautiously watching you hoping you wouldn't join in but you did and not you'll have to suffer the consequences

Had others from @CanConPhilly as well but tried to get them on here while laying in bed, woke up this morning mid review.

This was my first from Threes
Poured a hazy yellow with a finger of white head.
Smells of citrus, orange and tangerine primarily.
Taste follows, orange, tangerine, a hint of lime. Faint dank notes as well.
    Medium body and well carbed.
    Overall a good beer!
My first Forest & Main as well

Pours a hazy yellow with a huge white head.
Smells of grain, clove, banana, some citrus.
Taste is citrus, banana, clove, a touch of pepper. Very mild funk.
Light to medium body good carb level.
Overall a beer I could drink all day.
Another Forest & Main I thought I was getting into a hoppy beer with the name of Summer Friend but was a bit surprised.

The Saison is a style that I don't have a ton of experience with so it was good to follow with another.
This one poured more of a golden orange with two fingers of white head.
Smell is fruity, orange and peach.
Taste follows but not quite as intense as the nose implies.
    Medium bodied prickly carb.
Overall another tasty new one that I could drink all day.
Thanks Matt for keeping me in new beer today.....and for the next couple of weeks atleast!

This is basically how I got started as well, ha. My dad would give me a sip if I asked, figuring there's no way I'd enjoy SNPA or Thunderhead at like age 8.
couple of decades later, here we are...

I know it's Monday and all, but I wanted to get in on the theme that @lordofthewiens started - so great to read about what you and Mrs. Lord are doing!

I grew up with beagles as hunting dogs (rabbits), but I remember one being a family pet as well. Squeaky is the first dog I can remember clearly. Dad always said if she refused to get out of the truck, don't bother stepping in the woods because there was nothing there. We took in a few abandoned and one badly abused dog probably up to my late teens, then Dad didn't want to bother with dogs any longer.

Fast forward a few years to marriage and our first "rural" apartment and Sam the yellow lab. My wife was running a taxidermy studio at the time and we did some bartering - knew the parent dogs and besides being pre-programmed retrievers they were outstanding as companions. The dog trained me - she knew exactly what to do in the field and only had to learn the commands by sight or sound. She lived to a ripe age of 16.

We then rescued TC - the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - overflow from an unofficial shelter. Full of personality and full of himself, but an outstanding dog as we now had our kids. I remember finding him buried in the trash barrel one afternoon - pedigreed dog all the way back to the original bloodlines in England, yet still just a dog when you come right down to it. To him, we added our favorite of all time - Todd (Tired Old Dumb Dog) the Boston terrier puppy. Another escue from a person who did not want the puppies. He and TC went everywhere with us. Say "go for a ride" and they were at the door waiting. They went on our first good family vacation - staying in a cabin only accessible by boat on one of the Finger Lakes in New York. Todd outlived TC by quite a few years, and we had to put him down due to bladder issues. He would not have survived the treatment according to the vet. That was a devastating day for all of us, and I will admit I still choke up a bit when looking at pictures.

Somewhere along the line came Gizmo the rag doll cat, which my son inherited from a high school girlfriend. Full of panache, he was. Soon after came Mitzy - found wandering at a friend's home with two resident cats. Vet check failed to reveal that Mitz was carrying packages, and about a week later Lee (an ugly kitten who is now a gorgeous cat), Shadow (who would not leave mom's side), and Mooch (who was fond of raiding your dinner plate). We lost Gizmo to Father Time and Mooch to feline diabetes.

In the midst of the "cat pack", we adopted Penelope and Pegasus - two female chocolate labs owned by a co-worker who was relocating. He did not want to look for a short-term dog friendly apartment, and the dogs were living in the basement of his house. Previously, they had been found wandering a construction site in Texas. They were outside dogs - never very happy in the house, but perfectly well housebroken and capable. The cats did not like them one bit except for Lee who used them as a personal pair of body guards - Lee's sleep with them, lay down with them, and the other cats would steer clear. I suspect they had been outside for quite a while before my co-worker took them in. Weird dogs - friendly enough, but never completely trusting either. To watch them hunt outside was amazing - a real team and we had NO issues in the gardens with woodchucks, possums, racoons, or wild turkeys (there are several graphic stories...). We put in the electric fence and collars for them - they needed no training. As soon as those collars went on, they knew exactly what they were. I suspect somebody had them at one time and ran them into the barrier at full blast to "train" then. I would like to find that person... We had them for fifteen years and best guess is they were 18 when they died of natural causes.

Daughter dearest inherited the "soft touch" gene. She adopted what she was told was a beagle, which is actually a Treeing Walker Coonhound, Sir Duke - a very handsome but quite schizo hound dog, not very well-trained and not what you'd call a fast learner. And a few months ago, she was "fostering" King Louis...ummm....King Louis is an Irish wolfhound/Great Dane mix, so is destined to be around 120 pounds. He's calm, and quite aloof which has been good for Sir Duke who seems to enjoy being in a little pack. We've told her to stop filling in the royal court, so no princes or princesses, earls, or whatever is left! A Duke and a King are more than enough for her small house.

Us - we're down to three of the cat herd, my son's fiance's cat Jones (yes - Alien movie), and the grandson. Eventually we'll consider another dog, but it's not easy letting go when you have to. We ant to travel more as we approach retirement, so we've got to put a lot of thought in before making a decision. And I hate to think of the day when Mitzy cat passes on - it's gonna be very, very hard on my wife since they are very much attached.

No beer, obviously, and I have been absent a few weeks now, but wanted to speak about the critters which have been so important in our lives.
