NBS x2. It was warm and sunny when I grabbed the Rice Lager earlier today thinking it would pair greatly. A thunder storm rolled in minutes after. So, I thought an Irish Stout might pair well with the cold and gray and rain. Well, guess who just decided to get warm and sunny again... Whatever. Shut up and drink the beer, Phil.

The crack of the tab, and a huge puff is exhaled. Can inverted, deep walnut contents begin to cascade. The waterfall curtain made famous by the style is always a pleasure to watch as it develops into a smooth, pitch black abyss. Garnet and hazelnut highlights shimmer at the base of the glass as a smooth, creamy, tan sponge rests proudly on the top. Each sip leaves a solid ring of foam from head to toe.

Dark chocolate, toast scraping, and a recently broom-swept-floor dusty aroma surface first. Digging deeper, a metallic iron/ mineral water develops, but not as intense as your typical classic Irish draughts.

Semi sweet chocolate is once again most dominant. The earthiness is very prevalent as well, especially on the back end. Slightly less of a brown bread influence than I was expecting, and just a smidge of that mineral quality.

A well balanced beer with a slight edge to the earthy and musty driven bitterness. It is very watery feeling and much less creamy than it's brethren, perhaps in part due to the lack of the famous (or infamous) widget, but is still very smooth and easy to drink.

Personality, the feel is what kills this one for me. If it were a bit full and creamy this would be an amazing Irish Stout. Gonna have to give it a go on draught at the source to see if it's just a canning issue. Regardless, I could get behind this beer as it is remarkably easy to drink with good flavor.

After my official review, I gave Kells Nitro Irish Stout a rating of 3.82 with an rDev of 0 (first review). Slainte!

Truth. Heller Trum is my favorite brewery. Mathis Trum is a dedicated CEO and tries to both honor his father's wishes and keep Schlenkerla a viable bierstube, despite many peoples' misunderstanding of the German sense of tradition. Hell, even their non-smoked lager tasted smoked, because of the yeast strain and the general smokiness of the whole facility.

Thanks for the very early morning start, @lordofthewiens. I hope that you heal up quickly!

I’ve got one new one for today, Lickinghole Creek’s Supreme Leader, a BBA imperial stout with cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, cayenne and and ancho and Serrano peppers.

The beer pours dark brown/black with a 2 finger tan head that settles leaving a thin coating.

Aroma is a bit muted but I’m getting a woody note, some cinnamon, a little vanilla and bourbon and a faint vegetal pepper note.

Taste is complex but well balanced with slightly sweet dark chocolate, cinnamon, bourbon, pepper heat, vanilla and some roastinees that provides some bitterness.

Body is medium full with moderate carbonation. The pepper heat warms the mouth and lips but isn’t too hot (I have a fairly low tolerance for heat fwiw). Finish is surprisingly dry for such a big stout, and there’s a little lingering bitterness and tingly heat on the lips.

Overall this was outstanding in body and flavor, but the nose could have been a bit fuller. That’s just a small complaint though, and I’d be happy to drink this one again.

..medium light carbonation with about a medium body
.. aroma is raisin bread, malt, dried dark fruit, roasted malts, some spice
Taste is very similar, mild sweetness and malt is forward but not sickly sweet. There's plenty of malt but not enough to mask all the other flavors
    ..excellent version of the styke[IMG]

Good evening, NBS. In my neighborhood, yesterday's predicted monsoon was relatively mild and we are certainly thankful. Not a bad day today, so we picked up a couple of steaks and fired up the grill.

Enjoying the Packers giving the Rams a run for the money, at least at the moment. And oh well so much for that....Rams offense seems like the sword of Damocles.

    So the beer:

Tree House Green. Now this one I like. It looks thick and has a nice, creamy texture. The aroma and taste are a cornucopia of tropical and citrus fruits, there is a strong malt component and just enough bitterness to hold the fruit bowl together. I am even finding a bit of melon at times. The malt and bitter balance make this beer, otherwise it would just be another tropical fruit cocktail. Between 4.0 and 4.5 for sure on this one. Plus, this one, I like.

Cheers...will catch up with the thread tomorrow. I know when I do that I usually miss an awesome theme, but lots going on today.

I had my current dog cut around me & his leash ended up takiing out my legs, sprained my left wrist & had a helluva time getting off the ground

Stone Cloud Grapefruit IPA, not bad, 4.0 overall

Pours a hazed gold with a thumb of pearl colored head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Grapefruit, not much of anything else

T: Follows the nose, a little breadyness too & some orange up front. Dryness & grapefruit as this warms. Finishes dry with a good amount of grapefruit

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, good balance

Easy to drink, but hoped for little more out of this one, but well worth a try

I was under the impression that the holiday beer is the Eiche Oak Smoked Doppelbock, and the Urbock is a standard year-round brew.

Had that one yesterday. The smoked beechwood was a nice addition. thought it was a very good beer.

I was going to ask what happened but the n I saw your explanation later in the thread. Dang!!!

I’ve got one of those in the fridge. Hard for me to pass up anything that Hoppin Frog puts in a barrel, but I think this might be my first one that’s not a stout, so we’ll see.

Time for something that sounds light and refreshing on a rather warm day along the front range. The weekend weather was perfect for outdoor activities and I certainly got my fill. My sympathies to @lordofthewiens and his ailing foot. I've had my share of injuries in life and hate being a spectator instead of a participant, so I empathize with your frustration. Best wishes on your continued recovery.

I was gifted some leftover beer from a party last week and figured this a good place to try one or two. Starting with a 12 oz. can of Denver Beer Co. Princess Yum Yum Raspberry Kolsch. It's dated 07/25/18, made with real raspberries and has an abv. of 4.8%. Poured in a 13oz. snulip for the occasion.

It pours a rather unremarkable looking cloudy pale red/pink leaving behind a minuscule two centimeters or so of soapy off white foam that almost instantaneously disappears. It smells like raspberry jam, mild floral and green melon. The taste is predominantly raspberry with a bit of bread/biscuit in the finish. The feel is light thin and chuggable.

While nothing memorable, it is as advertised. Raspberry, light, easy drinking, refreshing and hitting the spot on a 80 degree day after hiking! My score is 3.7 / rDev+0.3%.

Enjoy your new beer adventures while I enjoy some porch time with the doggo's. Here's the official scorecard and some gratuitous shots from today's trip to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Glad to see how much you enjoyed it. I think there are quite a few similarities between this beer and the Jack's Abby Rye beer that you sent me, and have come to love that rustic spiciness that both of them have. Here's hoping that these two aren't the last that we see of amber rye lagers around here!

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a slightly hazy golden body with scant lacing. Nose of pumpkin, tart citrus, and ever so slight pumpkin pie spice. Taste mirrors nose with the pumpkin pie spice building a tad with each sip. Pronounced puckering tartness from middle to end. Good feel and overall, definitely unique offering from Hamilton Ontario. Cheers!

Yeah, I'm not sure how long they set their best by dates for, but I bought this recently and am pretty sure it's relatively fresh. Best by date is 04/19. I love both the Urbock and Eiche Doppelbock as well.

I know it doesn't count (twice) but I went back to the NBS for the day (NB VR Black Imp IPA), a second time. Poor show, breaking protcol, yadda yadda yadda, break out your tiny violins. Couldn't help it...10%, drinks like 6%
