    Hello and Good day NBS'ers!

Please discuss the new beers that you have on hand and tell others about what’s going on in your world.

I got to spend some extra time with my new grandson. Any time with him is the best

what glass do you use and what is the serving temperature?
what is the foam on the pour? lacings? clarity of the beer?
what is the aroma? sweet? malty? earthy?
    what is the taste?
what is the mouthfeel? Smooth? dry finish? Creamy?
what are your opinions of the beer overall?

My new beer is a gift from my nephew.

Love & Wrestling from Mayflower Brewing
    4.27/5 rDev +8.1%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Can poured into a straight sided glass, can came straight from the refrigerator

Massive three finger fluffy white foam head , great retention. , very good lacings over a hazy orange liquid

Aroma is citrus, orange , orange rind, whiff of lemon on the final sniff

Taste is orange citrus, tangy, reminded me of the orange burst flavor from the powdered drink "Tang" , hint of pine on the finish

Low sudsing , hop nibble, citrus taste nicely lingers , semi dry finish

Good beer, mayflower has been raising their game. Their recent "400" introduction is a very good beer and the best that they have brewed. This follows that trend and they are improving their brewing game.

    The T-Rex of beers!?!

I rarely take notice or really care about beer label art but today’s beer has an interesting depiction of a T-Rex on the can (see photo below). I am guessing because this beer has “bite”?

Toppling Goliath beers became available to the Philly area market sometime last year (10 months ago?). I have seen them on local beer retailers’ shelves but frankly I have avoided them in the past since they are quite pricey and there are already lots and lots of other high quality beers available at more reasonable prices. Well, perhaps the 3+ months of COVID-19 got me ‘weakened’ because when my local Retail Beer Distributor finally opened for in person purchasing a week+ ago I made an impulse buy of Pseudo Sue – Mosaic Dry Hop.

One the back of the can is the following description:

“This double hop pale ale showcases the Citra and Mosaic hop for a well balanced beer that is delicate in body with a mild bitterness in the finish. Ferocious hop aromas of citrus and mango give a refreshing taste that is bright with just enough bite!”

Is “just enough bite” a T-Rex bite? I would think that T-Rex would provide a BIG bite!

Also on the back of the can is a depiction of a map of Iowa with above it: Brewed in Beautiful Decorah, IA”. I suppose to highlight that this beer is brewed at the actual Toppling Goliath brewery vs. being contract brewed somewhere in Florida?

Let’s see if this beer is worthy of T-Rex.

Served in my Gulden Draak tulip glass:

    Appearance:

A hazy yellow color with a tow finger white head which dissipated fairly quickly.

    Aroma:

There is a combination of tropical fruits and citrus on the nose.

    Taste:

The flavors follows the nose with a combinations of tropical fruit and citrus There is a moderate bitterness. There is a hint of hop burn on the back end of the swallow.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium body, a soft mouthfeel and an off-dry finish.

    Overall:

I thought this beer was very good. I enjoyed drinking it.

    Cheers!

Thanks for kicking another NBS off today @WunderLlama ! Your cute grandson is so happy, as though he had a sip of your kick off pour!

Starting off local today with Maplewood's Charlatan.

This is a 6.1% ABV American Pale Ale, canned 5/5/20, purchased a month ago and refrigerated at the grocery store and at home since purchase. Love that Maplewood lists grains and hops used as well as IBU and SRM on their cans. All other breweries should join Maplewood in this regard.

Grains: 2 Row, Light Munich, Dextrin, Caramalt, White Wheat
    Hops: Citra, Simcoe, Centennial, Warrior
    IBU: 35, SRM: 7

How has this beer held up?

Appearance: Light clear straw tan colour pour, bubbly white head dissipates quick leaving ring above the pour. Leaves more generous soapy ringed lacing throughout the pour, light carbonation. 3.5

    Aroma:
Faint aroma, bread, citrus lemongrass. Neutral. 2.75

    Taste:
Nice bold taste in contrast to the negligible aroma. Citrus, pine, lemongrass. Malts and hops blend well together, dry and bitter, pleasant. 4.25

    Mouthfeel:
Medium slightly creamy body, fine carbonation lingers throughout the pour, dry aftertaste. 4.0

    Overall:
This is a very good American Pale Ale, glad I picked up a four pack. 3.75

Will definitely pick this up in the future and drink fresh upon purchase to see if I get more aroma and or a different taste profile.

I also had a few "Not Ready for Primetime Players" new to me pours earlier in the week as I ventured to breweries and a bar/restaurant (first time for the latter) on Friday.

    Listed in order of preference

    Very Good (4 +):

Metropolitan Breing Jitterator (Nitro) Coffee Dopplebock
    Revolution Brewing DDH Mango Hero
    Topping Goliath Pompei

    Good (3.5-4.0):

    Revolution Brewing Black is Beautiful

Drink local, drink fresh, drink quality! Looking forward to the thread as always for future purchase opportunities.

Smell is ripe melon, mango, papaya, citrus, apricot, and some grapefruit rind. 4

Taste follows honey dew, papaya, mango, mandarin orange, apricot, and some mild grapefruit. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, a tad sticky and a touch dry, rather gentle carbonation, and at 8.8% easy going down, but loaded with flavor. 4.25

This morning’s new beer is a refreshing Gose after an early morning cycling jaunt.
Ecosystem is a Gose from Finback.
The can pour presents as a deep yellow-orange, cloudy, with no discernible carbonation.
The aroma is of lime and coconut.
The flavor is distinctly of key limes and is moderately tart with slightly sweet and salty notes.
The actual carbonation and mouthfeel produce a dry , pleasant finish.
This is unique and very good.

Oh wow; I'm coming out of the gates hot this week!

    Saugatuck Blueberry Maple Stout

My partner picked these out for us and left them on the counter. I took the hint.

Now, I really enjoyed the imperial BBA variant of this beer. Surprisingly, too; I'm unfamiliar overall with Saugatuck, and I don't love blueberries (although like @superspak I really liked Lizard of Koz, so perhaps it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise).

This one, however .... not so much.

The combination of a low, 6% ABV base, and the added blueberries results in a very disappointing experience. Not bad, but much closer to "OK" than to "good."

What you don't see from the picture is that moments after it was taken, the head had completely disappeared from both glasses. That was a portent of things to come.

The body really is the focal point here - and not in a good way. It's thin, completely lacking any heft. Whatever stout base exists slides away without any significant impact, leaving tantalizing clues along the way that in some parallel dimension, there exists a version of this beer that is well-crafted and delicious. Sadly, we're not living in that dimension.

The blueberry, for what it's worth, is just about the perfect strength. The problem is that with everything else - including the maple - being so muted, blueberry still tends to dominate on the nose, the sharpness of the berry knifing through everything else on its way to center stage. It's not that the blueberry is too much of a diva; it's that the supporting cast really sucks.

Does it taste bad? No. Will I finish it? Absolutely. Is it a joy? Well ... it's not exactly a chore, but I wouldn't call it a joy, either.

I've settled in to watch the North London derby, which probably means nothing to you. For those who don't watch soccer, this means I'm watching Arsenal play their rivals, Tottenham, both of whom are located in North London. I'm a big Arsenal fan, and looking forward to a win today (I hope!)
Beer #1 today is courtesy of @Mbgreg . Lassi What You Think About This by Westbrook Brewing Co. It's described as a "Sour ale brewed with natural flavors". The can expands to say "A tart raspberry lassi-inspired ale with copious amounts of red raspberry puree and rounded out with milk, sugar and vanilla beans".

I am enjoying this beer, and it's very good for a hot summer day such as today. I was surprised to come in pretty well below rDev. Regardless, I'm definitely enjoying it!

Poured into a tulip at ~50-55 degrees. Pours a dirty cranberry red with an inch and a half of fizzy pink head that quickly dissipates. Smell is heavy on the raspberry with hints of something I can't put my finger on lurking underneath. Taste, while clearly reflective of the raspberry used in it's creation, is more subtle than I expected. This is smooth and easy drinking with little carbonation and just a tiny bit of funk aftertaste.

Thanks, @WunderLlama for getting New Beer Sunday off to a great start today. You have a good-looking grandson.
I have only one new beer for today, and it is Blueberry Coffee Three Philosophers. The can says best by 9/5/20, so I am under the wire on this.
A dark red/brown color. Small tan head that disappears quickly.
Caramel/toffee aroma, dark fruit, a little bit of coffee.
Caramel/toffee taste, plum, a little blueberry, a little coffee. The flavors work well together.
    Medium mouthfeel.
    Nice beer.

Mikerphone Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit: Special Roast French Toast. Imperial Stout w/ Vermont maple syrup and french toast-flavored coffee by Bones Coffee Company.

Pours pitch black with a finger and a half of a dense and creamy mocha, slightly reddish, head that dissipates slowly. 4

Aroma is maple syrup, some coffee roast, cinnamon, slight nutmeg, milk chocolate, bittersweet chocolate chip, caramel, and slight vanilla. Smells sweet from the maple, but the cinnamon spice and light coffee roast balance it out slightly. 4.25

Taste is surprisingly balanced between coffee and maple syrup. More coffee roast than the aroma led on. For me, flavored coffee typically comes off mild on the roast, so I anticipated this to be quite sweet. But the coffee is bold and adds a much needed roast component to the beer. It also adds a nice presence of cinnamon and some slight nutmeg. All of this balances out the sweet components of the beer, which are maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, and milk chocolate. Roasted malt and cocoa powder shine through as well. 4.5

Low full body. Creamy, silky, sticky, oily. Soft carbonation. 4.25

The flavored coffee makes this one a bit more complex and balanced than the other ISLBS variants. Certainly does remind you of french toast with the cinnamon/nutmeg spice and the maple syrup. Breakfast in a glass. 4.25

    Overall: 4.34
