My little Hitachino tumbler, Young's big dimpled mug, and Adnam's Imperial pint are perfect for me, no matter what beer I have. I also have a funky DFH pilsner style glass that I like. Usually a can works.

I view all these ridiculous overpriced mushroom and weird shaped gimmicky glasses as just marketing and hobby stuff.
I own 5 glasses, 2 which i took from a bar and 3 which i paid for,the only one i dont regret buying is my firestone Glencairn that holds 4oz of beer, but only because it's perfect for high abv stouts,i regret buying the other two.
Imho there's only one difference between a tulip and all the other shit out there and that is that if you paid more than 6 dollars for a cup for drink beer from you got finessed.

    The glass that I choose
    The one in my hand
    The making from silica
    Melting of sand.
    The glass that I choose
    The one I select
    There’s flavour to capture
    There’s nose to protect.
    The glass that I choose
    Its elegant base
    The head that it forms
    The capture of lace.
    The glass that I choose
    My elegant pours
    No-one must know
    That it’s brimful of Coors…
    The glass that I choose
    What a grandiose sight
    I place them just so
    So the Insta’s just right
    The glass that I choose
    Does more than hold beer
    It shows that I know
    And my knowledge is clear.
    The glass that I choose
    Is a careful-thought plan
Then the sign on the label
    Says drink from the can!
    The glass that I choose
    Is no wrist exerciser
    No-one must know
    That it’s full of Budweiser…

    Cheers!

I guess so. Without it, there's soon a big puddle of beer on the table in front of you. If you don't notice it immediately, it'll flow right off the edge into your lap. (Don't ask how I know).

Maybe we could add "BA poet laureate" to be one 'category' of the BeerAdvocate User Awards?

I'm gonna springboard off this to say that I totally dig a somewhat similar glass of mine - the style of which I cannot name either lol, but it's like a stemless teku tulip-type thing...
It's a Collective Arts glass with artwork from Maia Fadd, shown here with their Garage Project imperial stout collab and their Finback triple IPA collab...
It's good because you warm the beer by the way you hold it and it isn't as fragile-feeling as a teku (because it has no stem), but I actually really like the artwork, too...

And to the OP's (@Steve555) question...

Yeah - I think glassware totally matters... but I'll suggest that there are no absolutes as to what beer goes in what glass though - and sometimes no glass is the right glass - like, out of the container just makes the most sense or feels right for the beer - everyone's gonna have preferences - I know I do, but I'll spare ya the tl;dr... let's just say that I like to experiment, but certain types of beers totally feel "wrong" in certain types of glasses lol

    Cheers, all...

Sounds like you bought this one:

While it's generally just a decoration for me, unless I'm drinking a Kwak, the story behind the glass is sorta neat:

This is way more elaborate. The glass I had was like a stemless wine glass. The wood base of the one I got was like the bottom part of this contraption.

Though obviously quite different, the anxiety brought on by your initial description reminded me of glass I saw on a previous BA topic What’s up with absurd/handblown/unique beer glasses?:

Careful, there's plenty more bad poetry where that came from...

Despite the poem I very much do believe that glassware has an impact on my enjoyment of beer, and I'm one of those idiots that will bring their own glass to a dinner or bottle share if I can. Whether the effect of the glass is placebo or actual I don't know, but I suspect the theatre and ceremony around choosing the glass adds something to the general experience of the beer, and helps accentuate the other sensory inputs.

    Cheers

I think you bring up a good point that choosing a glass and pouring the beer into it forces you to focus more on the beer compared to drinking directly out of the can. Oftentimes the depth of my sensory experience with a beer is directly related to how much attention I can give it while consuming it, and I think using a glass absolutely facilitates this.

I also don't think anyone would complain about more humorous beer poetry on BA, but I can only speak for myself!

    Cheers! :beers:

    Bring it on.

I always drink out of a glass. For me, old age is setting in. Moderation in glassware shape and consumption. A 5-6% ale or lager in a half pint nonic or sham pilsener glass (or whatever else is clean).
