    Double Sunshine Ruby Red Grapefruit
    [IMG]
8% IPA from Lawson’s Finest Liquids

Poured from a pint can, the body appears as a yellow-orange color. Nice initial head and lacing throughout the tasting.

Nose follows beer name as a juicy, dank grapefruit aroma dominates. A malty backbone is also present. Very pleasant.

Taste follows nose as the dank grapefruit returns along with its the base beer’s delightful bitterness. Swallow finishes smoothly rounding out the edge and letting the bitterness deliciously fade.

Those tasters wanting an avalanche of grapefruit will be disappointed, but those drinkers seeking a delicious, bitter IPA will be delighted. Highly recommended.

I picked up some Schneider Weisse Tap 1: Meine Helle Weisse. 4.9% ABV

Pours a surprisingly clear yellowish/copper color. A dense and rocky head forms, with retention for days. Plenty of lace left behind.
Aroma is of grassy hops up front. Baked bread and sourdough. Peppery, spicy banana. Very nice.
Taste wise, there is a bit more sour grainy flavors here than expected. Again baked bread/sourdough (not that sour and sourdough always go together, but I get that here). Banana and peppery spice. Lingering grassy hops with a touch of bitterness.
A light body with prickly carbonation. Maybe a touch on the watery/thin side, even the low ABV, would think it would have a bit more heft. Though not a big deal overall, and still very easy to drink.

It was hard to read the canned on date, think it said Feb 2022, and seemed at least reasonable enough to pick it up. Maybe still a bit too old, but still enjoyable. Will definitely look to pick up some fresher if I can and compare. Even so, I'm having no issues putting this away.

Overall score 3.83, B+ with room for improvement if I find it fresher.

Today I have a new beer to me and a new beer to Fox Farm. It was first canned this week and it's not even on tap there yet. The person serving in the tap room yesterday explained that they can new beers first but they don't usually appear in the tap room for a few weeks after.

From the Brewery's website and the BA beer entry-
Notes: Tussle was designed with the simple goal of nudging forward the intensity and saturation of hop character in a Pale while maintaining the drinkability that we demand from the style. A blend of Cryo hops (HBC-586, Mosaic, and Simcoe).
The can art may be hard to make out in the picture due to the standard Fox Farm label styling. In the circle are two rams head-butting, tussling if you will.

Poured from a 16oz can dated 5/25/22 to a Nonic at fridge temp.
A one finger bright white head sits above a light orange opaque hazy body. Lacing is medium to low, but glass swirls bring highlights that sink in 5-10 seconds.
The aroma is a blend of all the types of citrus rind you can imagine backed by a hint of musty malt.
The taste is quite similar to smell. Lemon comes through as the dominant citrus and the malt finishes at the back end with a slightly sweet, slightly dank finish. At 5.5% there is no sense of the alcohol.
The mouthfeel is light and carbonation is medium but appropriate.
It’s nice to have an APA so full of flavor.

Prairie Artisan Buntastic Imperial Stout, 13% ABV. Pours black, with no head. Nose is carrots and cake mix. Taste follows, quite sweet, slightly bitter. Decent mouthfeel if a bit under-carbonated. Overall excellent, better than other carrot cake beers I've had.

Poured straw yellow and capped with a white head that dissipated quickly. The beer was closer to a light amber color in the glass.
The aroma was lost on me, chemically damaged nose, but I did get some grass and biscuits.
The flavor, the taste- almost like a Pilsner that’s had pounds of hops added in. The biscuits are there, the grass is still there, and then surrounding them all is hops and their bitterness. In a tasty way though. I wish it was a pint instead of a 12 oz. can so I could figure it out more.
The feel was excellent, can’t complain or comment on any improvement.
Well, I still wanted more when I finished, so it must be okay!
    Cheers all!

Drekker Master Manipulator DNEIPA, 8.2% ABV. Pours hazy golden with a 1.6 finger off-white head that left persistent lacing. Nose is berry and citrus, taste follows plus spelt, moderately sweet, equally bitter. Decent mouthfeel with appropriate mouthfeel. Overall excellent.

West Coast Pale Ale with Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial hops, from Englsnd (5%).

Pours a slightly cloudy, golden coloration with a large. fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and resinous, citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit and pine.

Taste is an excellent balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and fruity, bitter, resinous, slightly floral and herbal hops, with citrus notes of grapefruit and tangerine as well as some pine. Finishes with a strong bitterness and some grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a great West Coast Pale Ale that fits the style perfectly with its bitter, resinous character and zesty citrus notes. A very enjoyable, bold example of the style that's rather bitter and flavorful for the ABV. Just a tad light-bodied, perhaps, but really not too bad for the ABV at all.

Greetings fellow NBSers! a cloudy Ski-to-Sea Sunday (https://skitosea.com/) here in the Fourth Corner. It always rains race morning, and clears off in the afternoon. Still waiting for the clearing. We've been basically stuck in early April since late March. We had our first (and so far only) day over 70 last week. I'm over it.

Starting off with some shenanigans from NBS BIF #15 perpetrated by @ovaltine , Grodziskie from Dovetail. It's rather nice: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45802/246378/

Thanks! Very much appreciated the comparison. I know it’s got more variables than anyone can account for, but it’s still quite interesting.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Swiggers and commentators. It's a gorgeous afternoon in North Jersey. The peacefulness of the afternoon belies the meaning of this holiday weekend when we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Mrs. Mac and I are contrarians and we never go down the shore on Memorial Day weekend. Too much traffic and general craziness. Better to spend a relaxing long weekend at home.

Newark Local Beer Co. opened last November. It's one of the most unique breweries in New Jersey inasmuch as it's located on the ground floor of an iconic art deco office building in downtown Newark. It used to be the headquarters of New Jersey Bell but has been repurposed as upscale apartments. It's the first real brewery to open in the Brick City since forever. And it's come out of the gate strong. NLB doesn't distribute yet but it does something really smart: it sells custom 4-packs of 16 oz. cans (rather than crowlers). Most of its beers are railroad-themed. Today, I'm reviewing Unruly Passenger, a DIPA hopped with Cascade, Motueka, and Nelson. It's the first time I've had an NLB offering from a can rather than a draught pour at the brewery.

It pours a hazy, golden orange with a half finger of creamy, milk-white head and sheen of soapy lacing. It boasts a big, floral nose with lots of lemon, lime, tangerine, honeydew melon, and some sweet tropical fruit. The taste is also fresh and fruity. The Motueka hops (one of my favorites) are bright and deliver lots of lemon and lime, along with melon and a hint of stone fruit. The Cascade hops add a touch of spice and resinous pine. The Nelson Sauvin is initially understated but appears more prominent as the ale breathes in the glass. It adds the familiar notes of dry white wine. I'm not sure I could identify it if I didn't know it were there. The balance of tart citrus, sweet tropical fruit, and white wine grape is outstanding. This ale is moderate in body and carbonation and it drinks very easily for 8.5% ABV.

In my opinion, this is the best beer yet brewed by Newark Local Beer Co. although its Oak Island Porter is also excellent. I'd encourage any local BAs to check this place out. And when you do be sure to visit the amazingly-preserved art deco lobby of the building.

The craftsmanship is amazing! I'm not sure there's a better preserved 1930's office building anywhere in the country. Cheers, all, and have a great holiday weekend!

    Well met!
I was able to go kayaking for the first time this year. A very nice 2.5 hour float down the Flat River from Whites Bridge to Fallesburg Bridge. The two covered bridges on the Flat River.
As it’s reaching the 80s here, I am putting off mowing the jungle that used to be our lawn unit morning. So I will be back with another one in a little while. Gotta see if I still have one of those sours from @colts9016 left…

    FrauGruber - Ride The Tiger

Triple NEIPA with Talus, Strata and Mosaic hops, from Germany (9.6%).

Pours a hazy, pale orange coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/stone fruit hops, with notes of passion fruit, tangerine and peach.

Taste is a good balance of light biscuirty malt and fruity, juicy, quite floral and perfumey hops, with tropical, citrus and stone fruit notes of passion fruit, papaya, orange, tangerine and peach, as well as some potpourri. Finishes with a light bitterness and some papaya, peach and potpourri lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I really need to stop buying IPAs brewed with Talus hops. Even though I like the strong peach/apricot notes it brings, absolutely cannot stand that distinct, floral and perfumey potpourri character typical of the variety as well. Even though Strata and Mosaic bring some nice tropical and citrus notes to the table here, that strong, floral character of Talus always seems rather dominant, somewhat overriding these notes, while I'm also missing the dank, weedy quality of Strata here. Especially considering this being a Triple NEIPA it seems strangely lacking in body and mouthfeel as well, almost feeling a tad watery.

Sounds like a solid day so far, I got the lawn in before it heated up but now I’m falling asleep and it’s only 5.

Mrs Phisher aunt is here, she’s older and kayaks sometimes too, from Bellevue MI. She stopped here on her way back to MI from a long safari trip in South Africa.

I’m not a regular in this thread (for multiple reasons)… but here’s a Tavour purchase and new to me - “Fanzine IPA” a collab between Fort George and Block 15…

Canned 4/5/22. Pours deep gold with excellent clarity; long lasting white cap; heavy ring; soapy lacing. Skunky hops nose, some lemon right behind. Lemon grass, skunk weed taste; watery malt base. Thin body, moderate minus carbonation. Overall a skunky hops IPA that runs thin…I would not buy again…a typical over hyped Tavour IPA…one and done…
