This is what I call a BA 5 star beer. Not because it is excellent, which it is, but because of all the ticks for:
    1. Adding the beer
    2. Uploading a pic
    3. Rating it
    4. Reviewing it
    5. Posting it in 2 diff threads
If it were a new brewer to me then that would make it a 6 star unit! Ha! I love it!! Cheers everyone!

12 oz can canned 5/10/24 into a tulip glass.
L: SRM 3 Pours a lightly straw golden Amber color with light & firm steady carbonation, a waxy thin white head that has good retention down to edge foam, medium-light loose frothy lacing.
S: Light funk, pear, a hint of pastry dough, fruity overall.
T: Tangy fruits then a big bounce to bready biscuit pastry malts. Quite dynamic. There are notes of pear, subtle lemon, a ginger halo, apple, distant white grape sourness. There's a bready finish in the palate and gentle sweetness at the very end.
F: A light snap then moderately smooth & wet medium-bodied feel with a medium-fast length fairly dry finish.
O: Lovely bouquet, delicate taste & feel, a well brewed and balanced Ale that has fruity & bready notes and a dry finish. I would buy this again outside of the variety 12pk I purchased. It is excellent in its style.

A super long-time want of mine, finally obtained: Augustiner Maximator

Appearance: Clear dark amber, decent head.

    Smell: Sweet dark fruits.

Taste: Mildly sweet to start, moderate dark and red fruit flavor, somewhat light bodied, finishes with remnants of fruits and light tannins.

Overall: When I first got into craft beer I liked doppelbocks a lot but could never obtain Maximator. Finally it is in MN so picked up a 6er. Very easy drinking for a doppelbock but not as flavorful as hoped. Still tasty though.

Poured a 355ml can into a pilsner glass. A one finger white head on a hazy pale dirty yellow. The head diminishes to a thin layer. Some patchy lacing.

Malt and lemon on the nose.

A mild beech smoke flavour is apparent up front but overall mind in strength. Some herbal notes. A dry finish. The smoke character seems to diminish towards the end of the glass.

A light body and moderate carbonation.

I am not too familiar with this style but I like the refreshing light body with the herbal smoked notes.

Good morning, Weekenders! Kicking off my Saturday with The Order of Things 03 (TOOT3).

This one really reminds me of Barreled Souls' massive BA dark barleywines (they really do border on stout territory). And that means that it's really, really, really damn good.

Both base stouts spent far more time in sherry barrels (two years!) than bourbon, and you can tell, but it's not excessive. The bourbon is still present on both the nose and the palate. The stout base itself is more noticeable on the palate, where everything comes together in a harmonious melange.

Tasting notes of caramel, red wine, syrup, sweet bourbon, espresso, toast, light char, cherry, and honeycomb.

My only criticism, really, is that it's a fairly flat and still beer, both in the glass and on the palate. Mouthfeel, consequently, could be much better. But the flavor is out of this world.

And, hey, I enjoyed TOOT2 to kick off the 4th, which falls under this thread, so here it is!

It's funny: while right now I subjectively think that I like TOOT3 more than TOOT2 (no, I will not stop that :stuck_out_tongue: ), going back to the ratings and the pics, TOOT2 scored much higher overall ... and I don't think that's wrong.

Much, much better appearance and mouthfeel really won the day. The aroma was basically perfect. The pure taste, by itself, was just a notch below what I'm drinking right now (TOOT3) ... so, technically, my memory is correct, but that doesn't bear out in the weighted score. Tasting notes of red grape, oak, alcohol, caramel, toffee, chocolate, vanilla, sweet bourbon, honeycomb, syrup ... which, well, sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it?

What a lovely trip Hill Farmstead has taken me on over the past week with these three beers. Looks like it's time to turn my attention back to their farmhouse ales, as I believe that was my last stout from my most recent trip.

    Cheers!

Greetings, fellow NBWers, and belated Happy 4th my fellow Americans,

It's a weekend of "excessive heat" here in the wilds of Spokanistan, and next week it looks to be getting even hotter. Right now, it's a sunny 75° as I sip my coffee.

On Thursday, I stayed home and luxuriated in the fact that I had the holiday off and was still getting paid for it. After dinner, I got out a can from a brewery that was new to me, Larrabee Lager Company, located in the extreme upper left of Washington State:

Courtesy of a friend who lived in Hamstersam for a time and overbought cans on a recent return visit, this was a delightful German dark lager (what the brewery described it as on their website). It was bit of a style straddler, as there was
definitely some wheat used in the grain bill, but it tasted more like a Munich Dunkel to me. Eminently sessionable stuff, I'd hit it again in a heartbeat.

Central Waters Brewing Cherry Kringle Stout. A bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout featuring Door County cherries. The look is thick muddy brown. No foam appeared. The smell is strong with cherry, then leads to a traditional Kringle scent. It is very nice. The taste is quite sweet. Cherry flavor definitely takes over. It has Kringle flavor, but finishes a little too close to cherry cough syrup. The alcohol burn feels more like medicine than bourbon. There is a little bit of chocolate flavor, but cherry flavor dominates this one. The mouthfeel is thick, soupy, and robust cough syrup, with low-medium carbonation. Overall, cherry flavor can be difficult to blend into beer. I have experienced some triumphs and some failures with cherry-flavored beer. This one is in the middle. It is not bad, but there are better options available.

I like it! Dealing with our respective mothers who were both in a season of change (which apparently gets more challenging the older one gets) last time so didn’t have much free time. Next time will be better, at least I really, really hope so.

    Brasserie De Sutter ‘Alietum’

33 cl caged and corked pug bottle, poured into a Belgian chalice, in Toulouse, France. Best by 3/2025.

Took a full minute to pry the cork out, and I was rewarded with a little puff of smoke. (Did that sound right?) Decent foam popped up and lingered.

Nose is more of what I’d expect from an IPA than a Triple. There’s fruity pebbles and a funkadoo.

Taste is in that pocket too., it’s a quaffable and fresh sud. The hops are front and center, quite enjoyable. I think if the brewer didn’t sugar this brew he’d have made a nice DIPA. I get no other characteristics of Belgium. Enjoyable, barely noticeable 8.4% ABV, and a 35 IBU tarty bitterness at the end.

Mouthfeel is thin side of medium, there is lively carbonation.

Overall - a fine effort I’d drink again.
    The brewery tells their story:
The De Sutter brewery highlights the riches of its terroir. The beers are produced by favoring local raw materials, thanks to partnerships developed with organic farmers in the region.

French raw materials (excluding sugar). Ingredients: water, barley malt, oat malt, sugar, hops, yeast.
Brewed in Normandie with Love and Hops.

Rated 3.96 in the BA DB.

Your 3 Sheeps beer sounded great @LesDewitt4beer , may need to pick up that variety pack if I can find it in Wisconsin.

This beer I have had before, at least before November 2007 when production moved from Australia to the United States for beers sold here. The continuance of a sad trend over the years/decades, though for those who like the beers and cannot find a difference in taste and quality, it does help in the pocket book. These single offerings this weekend cost me as much as many single craft beers I buy, though I am getting several more ounces, in some cases double, with these formats. This one is a 750 ML can, though in my mind I thought they were 32 oz back in the day.

OK, hopefully it's clear I'm giving all these AALs a fair shot like any other beer, but this is what I would imagine drinking the corn ethanol they put into gasoline or pure corn syrup in some industrial factory. The other ones had some qualities I enjoyed, but beyond the look and portions of the aroma, it was/is all downhill for me. Even Walter Payton would be like WTF at the sweetness level.

Per the label decoder I found online from Molson-Coors, this was brewed in Golden, Colorado. I'm hoping the last new to me beer planned this weekend, brewed at the same location and more famous, turns out better. I have had Coors over the past decade or so, and memory recalls it was decent, so I am looking forward to it.

Good afternoon, Weekenders! My second new-to-me beer this Saturday comes courtesy of @snaotheus : Clear Asahi, my first Happoshu tick.

This beer has very low ratings - below 3.0. Yet, I just don't see it. Sure, there isn't much going on, but there's really nothing bad about it, at all. That's something I can't say for the standard BMC light lager/AAL.

Sure, this is similarly malty and apparently devoid of hops - flavoring or bittering, really. However, there are no off flavors (there are few flavors at all, really). Tasting notes are quick: honey wheat, corn, and a generically malty note.

This is a beer that doesn't do much, but again, it really doesn't do anything bad. I wouldn't want to get full on it, but it was gone before I knew it, and I didn't regret the experience at all. Not bad = >3.0, in my opinion - if barely.

    Hey what's going on?!

Hope everyone is good, it's hot as hades where I am.

I was up in Vermont the past few days and having a great time, and certainly enjoying the beers too. It was pretty hot up there also, but considerably more tolerable. Had a great 4th up there as well

I did manage to bring home some tasty new beer wares, and do plan to enjoy them. I am getting my weekend started with this one here.

What's new for our hero today?

Poured from the can into a Lawsons' branded snifter glass.

Pale lemon yellow with a fairly opaque appearance. Light looking green hued as well, with a white head that really looks bright and even brighter. Head manages a good solid three fingers, and comes with soapy like retention. Manages some nice thick settling, with a big bubbly collar.

Light sensing aroma, hinting of citrus like zests, and even a touch of orange peel. Small touches of dry sensing malt, not quite flour like but a nice touch of dry grain it seems.

Palate is about what I expected. Light touches of citrus hop even maybe a spark of pineapple tropical sneaking in as well. Light bodied but just enough to get out of session IPA like mouthfeel. This is a noticeably lighter body, but the low abv makes it to be expected. Faint touch of an almost cake like sweetness in the malt as well, which makes for a nice balance.

Real nice light tasting IPA, with a good citrus variety. Wish this was a little more bold though in the hop flavor department, which would be nice considering it's citrus angle.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4 | Final Score: 4.02/5

Clear, bright gold color; tiny bubble carbonation; thick head, white with a thick sponginess. Sweet smell; apple and pear. Rather sweet taste offset with a fairly bold on-again off-again brash bitterness; corn notes slowly emerge. Medium body with a heavier than expected residual sugar feel; good balanced between sweetness and dryness.

This is an interesting American adjunct lager, heavier in feel than most and a pronounced fruity ester quality to the aroma. The taste leans towards the heavier side of sweetness, not exactly cloying but close. The bitterness seemed to bounce around from balanced to extreme metallic quality from sip to sip. I'm not sure how to figure that one out, but it's what I sensed. In balanced, a respectable beer and something I wouldn't mind revisiting (if only to get a better read on it).

    Garage Beer
12oz canned on 05/03/24 poured into a pokal glass at fridge temp 4% ABV 95 calories 4g carbs per label. The beer pours bright pale yellow with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Aroma is mild with slight malt, corn and grass. The taste is semisweet pale malt with a hint of corn. There's a welcome grassy note in the mildly bitter finish. Feel is thin, highly carbonated and mostly dry with a hint of diacetyl if you really look for it. Overall, very good light lager.
