Soft, pale yellow pour, semi-translucent, body appears opaque in the glass; thick head, white and creamy. Fresh citrus aroma; tangerine and grapefruit; very faint oat underpinning. The taste mimics the smell; very citrus-forward; white grapefruit with orange and light citrus pith bitterness; juicy; medium-light bitterness. Heavy body; delicate acidity.

This is, perhaps, one of the best citrus-forward beers I've experienced, the smell and taste exuding freshly cut fruits. I like that the acidity and flavor are not overpowering yet clearly in command of the total palate experience. Well made, very balanced, suitably complex and intriguing, definitely appealing and satisfying

    Temple of minerva
....solid motor oil black appearance with a thin dark tan head
....light Carbonation,a thick, creamy, slightly oily feel. Has a alcohol burn that creates a very warming effect.
....aromas is mocha with dark chocolate, espresso with heavily roasted malt. Definitely alcohol, boozy, with mildly sweet bourbon and wood.
...taste is bourbon, mocha and bakers chocolate and a sweet maple sugary sweetness.
Overall its an amazing beer that I am indebted to @Blogjackets for[IMG]

Moony’s Ale (Hoppy Saison) - Another Moon

One of the best Saisons I have enjoyed in a long while.

First off, it is brewed at Suarez, and Another Moon specializes in Saison. Apparently they are experimenting with wild mushrooms in their beers. Not sure if there are any fungi in this one. I am curious if the brewery name might be a reference to the “Moonies” Unification Church, which had been located not too far away in Barrytown, NY. Some old stomping grounds for me.

The initial pour put us 5” of creamy off white foam, that eventually turned rocky and allowed enough room for a second pour, pictured below. Patches of sticky lace coated the glass after an extended duration. The translucent beer is more pale golden than pictured.

A pungent horse blanket aroma is great! Lemon/orange follows quickly, although the intensity is full step lower.

The aroma carries forward, however the flavor is more of a farmhouse funk contrasted with pleasantly mild tartness and bitterness. Pine tar turns to pine needles. Mild sourness shows up, but mild is the key. The finish is eternal and very dry with a decent bitterness.

It has a medium body and the scratchy woolen texture of tweed. While alcohol is low, it is far more present than the labeled 4.5% suggests. Carbonation is soft and prickly.

The hoppy component is definitely here, yet it is well within the realm of Saison.

I will be on the alert for more beer from Another Moon, and NOT just for the nostalgia of the area along the Hudson Valley.

Primordial Void from Bottle Logic. An imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels and finished with vanilla beans, macadamia nuts, and coffee. A collab with Magnanimous Brewing. Comes in at 13.5% ABV

Poured at fridge temp. Pours an insanely thick black with dark brown head. The nose is full of chocolate, burnt toffee, vanilla, milkshake, marshmallow, nuts, and molasses. I can't say that the bourbon is overly noticeable on the nose. Definitely smells sweet.

The taste is fantastic. I have definitely had a couple of Bottle Logic stouts that taste pretty much the same as this one. Chocolate, vanilla, coconut, caramel, bourbon, lactose, brownies, and definitely a nice layer of nuts. Some molasses is there as well. It's sweet, but I don't find it too sweet. Really nice beer.

The mouthfeel is incredible. Very thick and viscous. The aftertaste is chocolate milkshake and vanilla.

    Ozark Beer - BDCS (2023)

12oz can served in a slightly tulipy stemmed glass. 2023 vintage, no other date that I see. Got it from @russpowell in NBS BIF #18.

Pours black, opaque, small brown ring of head, slow active carbonation visible around the edges. Smell is black licorice and black coffee, molasses and oaky booze, char and vanilla.

Taste is similar, but throw in a huge dose of caramel, toning down all the bitterness associated with char and coffee, brings about more of a chocolate malt flavor.

Mouthfeel is creamy, rich, smooth, but nowhere near heavy. Overall, this is an excellent beer.

Sorry for the lack of memory! It was pretty good too.

At 13% plus, I’m not going to be able to have another night cap. Not even sure why I had it if I had already drank one. Spotty memory, I’m going with that.

Kiitos 5th Anniversary Ale, an English Barleywine clocking in at 15.5%, thanks to a trade with @NorsemanOne

16oz can served in a slightly tulipy stemmed glass. Dated 9/07/22. Got it from @NorsemanOne in a trade.

Pours dark, not stout, but darker than cola. Nearly stout, though. Head is vestigial - one millimeter thick ring around the edge. Smell is overcooked syrup and booze, char, intense raisin.

Taste is molasses, toffee, dates and raisins, cola, and nuts.

Mouthfeel is not light, but way lighter than a 15.5% beer ought to be. Overall...this is nice. It's like getting hit by a Geo Metro at 40 mph when you were expecting a Mack at 65.

Pours a chill hazed cola/mahogany color with 3 fingers of fluffy tan head. Very good head retention, better lacing

S: Roasty, brown bread, some molasses

Some dark bread/rye notes, a little woody hops, smokiness, a little dryness & more Baker's Chocolate & pine as this beer warms. Finishes dry, piney, a little brown bread & some peppery rye

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

Beautiful Dark Czech Lager, not perfect; but damn near. Sooo drinkable

I just finished my very first Citra Loves Galaxy, a 7% ABV West Coast IPA from Brewery X in Anaheim CA - IBUs unknown. It was a pint can from Trader Joe's.

I am not enough of a beer expert to be able to discern Citra from Galaxy, so I can't say if either was more prominent in flavor or aroma, or if they were roughly balanced. The flavor and aroma did meet my expectations. The bitterness was noticeable but not off-putting. The alcohol was also noticeable, but that may have just been lightweight me.

I don't have a car, so walking from the store to the initial bus stop and then from the final bus stop to my apartment results in a lot of jostling and usually somewhat flat beers. This one had a fair amount of head that hung around for a bit.

I seldom notice or comment on a beer's appearance, but this one had a touch of a chartreuse hue. This may have been my first chartreuse beer. Sorry - no cell phone, no image.

I enjoyed this beer and may purchase another some day, but it is not a new favorite.

Good day BAs! Back this Looong weekend with another New Breakfast Beer:

Plumification - from Velum. 16 fl oz can purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 01/07/24, $ 3.00 (Including tax), $ 0.188/fl oz. Reviewed 07/07/24 (Review 3313). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored in reefer at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.8 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 51.4 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), clear.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, hazily translucent.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.7 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density and fizzy, leaving neither crown nor cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3 – Smells sour and a little dark fruity, but not particularly like plums. No yeast, no malt, no hops, no alcohol (4% ABV, according to the can).
Flavor – 3 – Lightly sour with a mild dark fruitiness, again not particularly like plums. No yeast, no malt, no hops, no alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 3 – Light body; watery; soft but lively carbonation.

Final Impression and summation: 3.25 IMO, this is a failed batch they tried to salvage by marketing it as a fruited sour. At $3/can, it's still overpriced.
Rating 3.11, rDev 0% (First review)

Poured a 355ml can into a pilsner glass. A two finger fine white head on a slightly hazy straw. Good head retention. Reduces to a thin layer that sticks around. Fine lacing.

Wheat malt and coriander apparent in the nose.

Very subtle flavours. Citrus and coriander are both apparent but smoothly melded. A smooth salt finish.

    Light body and moderate carbonation.

A refreshing and true to the style Gose. Full points for balancing the flavours but still understating them.

Celestial Flirtation - Cloudburst Brewing - Seattle, WA - American IPA - 6.6%

My phone does not like QR codes, and most of the time they don't work on it, as this beer didn't work on it. At least the name of the beer was written on it in small print, or I would have been SOL. The beer itself is tasty. I really like the bitterness of it because it lingers in my throat and fades slightly before the next sip.

I'm going to rant a bit before I review this beer. Breweries DON'T use QR codes on your cans for beer info. Most of the time they don't work on my phone, like this beer didn't work. At least the can had the name written on it in small print or I would have been SOL

This beer is a juicy looking beer. Very hazy and murky looking. The beer produces a 2 finger white head. The frothy looking head lasts a long time and there's some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is tropical smelling. I do get some mango in the nose. I also get pineapple notes.
Taste - There's a lot of tropical flavors going on here. I just get a huge burst of pineapple up front. There's the hint of mango to sweeten it out. I get a good bitterness that lingers in my throat. I get some dank and a hint of pine.
This beer has a very pleasing bitterness, and the feeling just clings in my throat.
This beer is a pleasure to try, and I'm glad I got the chance to do so.

See you all later for more new beers.

Welcome to New Beer Sunday #1011! This final "new to me" can at home is not new to me, but it is unrated so I am taking the opportunity to post an official rating today.

I don't recall this tasting like it did today. I thought perhaps I didn't clean the glass correctly, so I poured in a separate tasting glass and also drank from the can and there wasn't much difference between the three vessels. I truly didn't expect this, I liked Coors Batch 19, and would revisit this review if I found on draft or handed another can, but for today at least, this is one of the worst beers I recall having. It is becoming drinkable now 20 plus minutes in, so bumped up the scores a bit for taste and overall.

I don't want to end the AAL tasting with this one, so may grab or go out to (perhaps) enjoy one or two more new to me / unrated beers before calling it a day.

Appearance: Clear yellow gold, good head.

Smell: Big piney and citrus smell.

Taste: Attacks with bitterness, then balances out with mildly bready note while maintaining a big citrus/grapefruit presence. Medium bodied, finishes with pithy grapefruit.

Overall: A really good old school type IPA. Plenty of bitterness and big grapefruit flavor. Steel Toe has another winner IPA here!
