Cross posted in the Imperial Stout is Life thread.
This is Caius Brewing in Branford, Connecticut, about 8 minutes from my house, and their Nero Imperial Stout. They brew this base imperial stout and mix additives or non for different variants. this is the CCV coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla..... and lactose. ABV is 9.1%

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. Purchased at the brewery and the can has been in my cellar since. No date stamp on the label or can.
the beer pours a rich dark brown color , basically black coffee. No light passes through the glass. A dense creamy tan head of almost 3 cm foams up even with a gentle pour. This foam slowly fades to a clingy , sturdy edging and one large island in the center of my glass. I do get tight lattice when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma is dark roasted malts and chocolate bar with hints of vanilla. There is a bit of sweetened coffee in there too. No hop hits and not a bit of alcohol bite nor fusol notes on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body and creamy texture, with very fine spacious carbonation. Feels very nice on my palate.
Flavor is definitely sweet, but not like a candy bar or sugary. Some hot chocolate notes with a bit of light and sweet coffee. I guess a mocha would be correct descriptor. Not really to vanilla-y and hops are absent as well as the booze. This is a fairly thick, sorta sweet chocolatey stout. Very glad I bought these cans from my local brewery a while back. Id definitely buy this again.
    4.45 in the BA DB

The Pit Room is 2-3 blocks from D&Q. Their BBQ is fantastic ... personally I love their deer sausage (black pepper and garlic and they're not kidding about the black pepper ), and their pork ribs are excellent. So's their chili — no beans — and their sides are very good and in some cases unique. The green beans are Asian influenced, and the elote is a staple for me.

My knowledge of Vietnamese places in town is poor, but we have loads of them.

I'd like to hear more about your book "The Dawn in Britain," or post something in the "Off topic" area where's there's a What Book Are You Reading Now thread. I seem to be endlessly fascinated with British writing, from Phillip Gibbs and P. G. Woodhouse to the golden age of British mysteries to WWII. And Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow."

Gotta say goodbye to the holidays eventually-- Palomar By Air Pale Ale from Carlsbad Brewing

Aroma of grain and straw. Lively on the tongue with a light body. Flavors of cereal and a note of caramel. This is a perfectly drinkable but nondescript brew. It may be older than I would like. From the 16 oz can purchased at Baron Market in San Diego.

Have a good New Beer Sunday. Had a late nap and then me and my wife got a lot of Cook Out last night so I am still full. All of the food is amazing and I got a Oreo PB shake with my tray along with corn dog and bacon ranch wrap :yum:.

So this has been in my fridge a long time, before I even met my wife lol. I am surprised it didn't foam out like most old IPAs. Revolution/Hop Butcher Superstructure. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, coconut, guava, citrus peel, peppercorn, pine, honey, bread dough, light caramel, herbal, floral, grass, yeast earthiness. Light-med pine, citrus rind, herbal/woody bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body. Balanced creamy/bready malts, sticky hops, and light resins in the mouthfeel. Lingering resin drying with no cloying/astringency. Mild increasing warmth of 9% after the finish. Great smooth/soft feel for an NEDIPA. The nose was quite muddy, but not bad at all. Taste held up a bit better. Still very juicy with solid dankness. Nice showcase of Mosaic, Citra, El Dorado, and Sabro hops. 4.1

    Greetings, New Beer Weekenders!

Can’t even remember the last time I dipped into one of these threads, but here I am posting from the bar…

Tall glass of Dark Souls (English Stout, 5.1%) from Anarchy Brew Co. in the UK.

Pitch black, dark brown hues, creamy beige head. Getting malted milk chocolate, light roasted coffee, and layers of dark berries. Smooth drinking.

Enjoyed on tap at the Black Door in Helsinki, Finland.

Good day BAs! Here's a cross-post from WBAYDN with today's New Breakfast Beer:

    Barrel-Aged Toasted S’more Narwhal Stout. 16 x 16 fl oz can. $ 100.00 (Including shipping), $ 0.391/fl oz from Sierra Nevada on-line. Received via UPS 03/01/25. Reviewed 05/01/25 (Review 3440). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “PKGD 112224.” Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 57.2 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 60.0 degrees F. (It didn’t last long!)
    Appearance – 4.25.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, light penetration at the edges is ruby.
Head: Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density. Slowly drops to a 0.4 – 0.7 cm crown fed by heavy carbonation and has a complete cap.
Lacing – None – not really expected at this ABV.
Aroma – 4.25 – Begins with strong graham cracker and cocoa. No yeast, no ethanol (11.9 % ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl. Bonus! The aroma lasts the entire can!
Flavor – 4.5 – Marked cocoa and marshmallow, just warning hints of graham cracker. No yeast, no ethanol. No disulfides, no diacetyl. The barrel blends seamlessly with the roasted malt and cocoa. Finishes slightly sweet. Mild gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; approaching creamy; lively but soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Delicious! Narwhal is perhaps the most consistently good stout that occasionally makes it into this area – when it does, I always pick up a case or two. This variant is supreme – too bad I’ve only got 14 cans left – enough to last two weeks with careful rationing.

Its an epic poem, written in Old English. Charles M. Doughty wrote it in the early 1900's, about the Roman wars on the British islands. Just cause I'm not use to reading Old English, it is taking me a while, but thematically, its is very Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings-ish. All the in fighting and scheming from Britain Kings, to themes of joining forces and fighting back enemies of the East. As well as how Christianity and paganism combined in Britain. I will definitely add this to the What Book Are You Reading Now thread...its just taking me a while ha.

Rock Wall White Tide Witbier from Aldi. Amazing witbier. Great head retention and lacing on the glass. Aromas of pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, orange peel, apricot, clove, coriander, peppercorn, bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, yeast earthiness. A bit of honey, a bit sweet on aromas. Taste of big pear, apple, banana, bubblegum, orange peel, coriander, apricot, clove, peppercorn, wheat grain, bread dough, wood, herbal, floral, grass, yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody bitterness on the finish. Medium high carb and light-medium body. Crisp clean refreshing finish. Balanced creamy grainy malt and sticky spicy mouthfeel. No hop/spice astringency on lingering drying character. Very vibrant and complex yeast/citrus/spice flavors. Top tier for the style. I could drink these all day. 4.35/5

A lovely cold central Minnesota morning is upon me, and it's time for a beer. This one came from @Whyteboar in the most recent NBS BIF.

Jam Jar - Brewery Vivant - Grand Rapids, MI - Wild Ale - 5%

Wow, I am so glad I finally opened this up to try. I am a fan of the brewery and have enjoyed everything I've had from them. This is no exception. The beer is well balanced and it is just chock full of pleasing berry flavors. Delicious!

    From a 16oz can. Canned on 01/16/2024

This beer is murky looking in the glass and a red/pink color. The head is a nice pink color and 2 finger in size. The head does last a long time and has some sticky looking lacing on the glass.
The nose is dominated by berries, just a ton of them. Thety are quite strong and pleasing. The berries are real berries and not artifical at all.
The flavor is just a full on berry hit. I am getting a good plum hit as well in here. There's tart and sweet flavors in here. The berries do taste fresh. There's also hints of the malts that shine through and just add to the flavor.
Bubbly feeling body. Somewhat dry feeling. The feeling from the tartness lingers.
    Very delicious and refreshing.

Be back later for another new beer. Cheers!

Samuin Harvest - Inbound Brewing - Minneapolis, MN - Pumpkin Beer - 6.6%

I do like pumpkin beers, but they have to have a good balance. This beer doesn't, it's a cinnamon bomb. Not pleasing.

From a 16oz can. There's a date on the can, but it is smudged, and I can't read it.

This beer is a darker amber color, with brown hints to it. There's some murkiness to it. There's a 2 finger tan head to this beer that is somewhat fluffy looking. Good head retention and some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is as expected with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Pretty well balanced aroma and there's hints of malty grain.
The flavor is very dominated by the cinnamon. This is quite overpowering, and is not balanced with the nutmeg and cloves. There's some hint of the grain, but the cinnamon is powerful.
The cinnamon provides a heat feeling to this beer and it is the main feeling. Slightly bubbly feeling.
If this beer were balanced, it could be good.

Well, I'd better finish this off, and try another beer today. Cheers!

A mostly sunny but cool day. High temps for the next week are supposed to be in the forties, so I'm not sure how much golf will be played. As long as there's no wind we'll tee it up.
My new beer for today is a grisette, a style I'm not too familiar with. Piglette from Brewery Bhavana.
A pale gold color with a little haze. Small white head, some lace.
    Fruity, funky aroma..
Taste of pear, tart. Late hop bitterness.
    Crisp, effervescent mouthfeel.
Very drinkable. I wish I hadn't given one to my wife.

    From a 12oz can. Canned on 08/23/2024

This beer is a pitch black pouring beer. There's no way any light could shine through. There's a thick 3 finger tan colored head that has great retention to it. Lots of great sticky lacing on the glass.
The nose has a great vanilla aroma. I also get notes of chocolate and caramel that back up the vanilla.
The vanilla is what hits my taste buds first, and it it the main flavor. There's notes of chocolate and caramel that hit on the backside. The chocolate seems more dark than sweet with hints of coffee. There's a hit of bitterness on the finish.
The body is smooth and full feeling. The bitterness does linger.
    Tasty beer overall. Delicious!

I will see if there's another in me today. Cheers!
